Good stuff! Thanks Bob. I do have a question on parking near trees. Trees would suggest there is water available to the trees and water may be available due to flash floods in the area surrounding the trees. It would be great to watch a video concerning when it is OK to park near trees in the desert. Carolyn was talking about gullies with vegetation as being a no-no as they are probably flooded periodically. Maybe these trees with vans parked close by have deeper root systems.

Does that scenery ever depress you after a while? It just looks so dead and bleak.
@CheapRVliving
@CheapRVliving 7 лет назад
The desert isn't for everyone, but there are some spots by rivers and other waterways that have more vegetation. I think it's beautiful!
@leannemarieevmed.theorigin8414
I agree it is beautiful, although it seems to have a limit for me .. I lived in Tucson for a year and thought it was amazing and stunning and just awesome when I first got there, and even for a while there after - but then slowly it changed and I was super depressed by the end of the year because all I saw was dust, dirt, dead, dryness and everything was the same color ... and longed for trees, water, and grass lol But that's just ME - you're right, everyone is different. :)
@leannemarieevmed.theorigin8414
I think I could do it if after a few months I traveled some place new with different scenery to kinda break it up a bit.
@CheapRVliving
@CheapRVliving 7 лет назад
That's the key, we are only there for 4 months at the most (November -February), then we go to the mountains for cool weather. By March I long for the mountains. But by October I long for the desert.

I just started watching your videos a few months ago. I love binge watching these older ones. So much information and insight. I fully understand why you would not be able to put one up like this today. Fame does indeed come with a downside. You'd be swamped with guests. But great info for 1st timers like myself. You've got an excellent library Bob.

@@davechristian7543 Bob may come across as an extrovert, but he's quite the opposite. Other than the formal gatherings like the RTR, he prefers to camp alone or in small groups in the tribe. A video like this would have fans swarming his camp to see him. (See 30:06, good example). He is generous and gives graciously of his time. But like many of us, he prefers to be alone.

This looks like a great place to spend the winter. The south west is one of the prettiest wilderness in the United States. I was in a similar landscape in Las Vegas and the mountains changed colour depending on the time of day. My only concern is the possibility of rattlesnakes. Do you need foot wear with high uppers for protection against snake bites? Probably wouldn’t be a bad idea! I hope that the guy who backed his rig into a bushy campsite under a tree hasn’t had any encounters with rattlesnakes. Snakes tend to hide out in bushy spots for protection. On that note I give all wildlife respect including snakes. Even the venomous ones as they are part of nature. In Ontario, Canada where I live we have the Massasauga Rattlesnake which is on the endangered species list. The snake can be found in the Georgian Bay; French River; and along the Lake Erie shoreline in Ontario.

I was house boating in the Florida Bay which is over 800 square miles. I was at anchor all alone for several days with no boats visible, then one day another houseboat came up and dropped anchor less than 50 yards away. I couldn't beleive it. I quickly heaved anchor and moved far away to the other side of a small island. Several days later I met the "Captain" and his wife at one of the local Tiki Bars. They turned out to nice people and apologized for anchoring so close, and even bought me a drink. It turned out they were new and were seeking "safety in numbers" Afraid of Pirates maybe? :)

Wonderfuel video, Bob. Never been there but your instructions are so clear, should be easy for anyone to follow. it's been my dream to do what ya'll do. However, I'm caregiver for a relative who has Alzheimers. So I enjoy traveling along with you & several others on their videos. Ckd my list of ones I'd subscribed to & can't imagine what possessed me to subscribe to some of them. had nothing to do with this way of life. So just unsubscri bed to many of them. Currently hunkered down for 2nd night in SD motel due to winter storm. Town just south of us got 18 inches of snow. Will be so glad to get home to IA tomorrow. Looking forward to next video. Keep out a the ditches. Patsy D
