HEY TRENTON AND KURT I have an episode suggestion. If your entire whiskey collection went away, and you had to start over again - what are the first 5 bottles both of you would buy to start rebuilding your collections?
Eagle Rare, Makers mark 101, OF 100 Rye, JD Single Barrel and EHT Small batch Honorable mentions would be Redwood Empire anything and Woodinville products
Russell's reserve single barrel, Widow Jane decadence, Old Forester 1920, Peerless double oak, Weller antique 107 ( if I can find it ), or a Four roses single barrel store pick
What is nice about these blinds is there is no influence from knowing the brand or bottle. So sometimes there are surprises where you think a particular one should have placed higher. Love the show.
thanks for suggesting Bee Liquors!! he has fantastic barrel picks and special bottles... i was a few hours after you guys and still managed to spend $1k, lol!
Recently purchased 4 of the VOB 100....3 @11.99 and 1 @18.99. I had never sampled it before but all of the positive reviews and budget friendliness of it I figured if it wasn't a sipper for me it would def be a mixer. After my second sip....$18.99 made me feel like I was stealing. Absolutely love it!
He's correct on his perception of the 1897 Forrester, since during the OF review, his ranking were: 1. 1920 2. 1910 3. 1897 4. 100proof 5. 1870 6. 86 proof 7. statesman
The McKenna needs to switch from single barrel to small batch IMHO because I have a bad bottle and will never buy another at that price if they range that wildly between good and bad...
I just scored a 1792 BIB from my local store on my way home from work earlier. Sittin up on the check out counter. First taste of this stuff. It's really good.
Would be cool to see an episode with all expensive bottles and you say that one is cheap. Interesting to hear Kurt say he was trying to find which was the 150+ bottle and couldn't find one. I feel like it would be easier to convince yourself an expensive bottle isn't as expensive.
Great concept for the video, guys! That VOB would definitely stick out for us, but it would be fun to throw something else into the mix and see if we could pick it out.
Since we're doing BIBs, it would be interesting to see how Evan Williams and Heaven Hill stand up to these. Henry's is one of my favorites, and HH is right up there too. But for a budget everyday, IMO EW BIB is really pretty darn good.
Fun video! Have a great time at the golf tournament and hopefully you raise lots of money. BTW, while I agree Henry McKenna price is creeping up into "craft" territory, with 20%+ inflation (over the last few years), how can prices NOT go up?! It is still an extremely solid bourbon! I happily bought one at Costco recently for $56.
I'm with Trenton. When I took the Old Forester tour, I thought their BiB was the best of the bunch. I'm not a huge fan of their products though, but I'd go buy the BiB again.
SLB Classics 0:03 no cuts! I made a HUGE Mistake while watching one of your videos a couple days ago and mentioned that I was watching a campaign rally while enjoying an evening Neat sip of cognac. I got a reply from a person that we're really only speaking bourbon in this really fun group. I just wanted to give an apology to anyone I offended. I realize my mistake..... Believe me, that will never ever happen again.....
When will you be at Cedar Ridge? Accepting local help on that barrel pick? I am only about 15 miles away and would love to meet up while you are in the Cedar Rapids area!
I have a great Cedar Ridge Cask Strength, Employees Pick bourbon. It is only available once a year at the distillery and I picked one up last month. Would love to share!
First blind where I’ve had everything. Man I love the HM10 even if it’s a little bit overpriced these days. Really good stuff and to me, similar flavor profile to Eagle rare/blantons but mostly easier to find
Went on a bourbon trip today and snagged a makers mark cask strength, an evan williams BIB and a wheeler's raid #08 sherry cask strength. I hadnt heard of wheeler's raid before but as i was browsing my local store their bottles caught my eye. I took a look at their #01 original bourbon and considered it at $37 but then I glanced over and saw the #08 for $26. I immediately snagged the bottle, no way i wasn't going to try a 122 proof cask strength 4 yr sherry cask bourbon for $26. I definitely think they had it priced wrong, i can't really find any online prices for them but if their bottom line bourbon is $37 i imagine their limited cask strength stuff should be $50 at least if not ~$70. Regardless, i tried a pour tonight and was very impressed. Super buttery, dark cherry, a pleasant oak medium finish and surprisingly easy to drink at 122 proof. I'd love to see you guys throw some of their stuff in a blind or do a review on the distillery in general seeing as they have a ton of different configurations.
Does gently rolling your glencairn glass in your hand really do anything to aerate your whiskey as opposed to swirling it around in the glass? Just curious 🧐
Hey you guys should do an Irish Whiskey blind sometime soon with some redbreast and the spots quality Irish Whiskey. I love Irish Whiskey and thanks to you guys I have a smaller collection of Redbreast. Probably some of my favorite whiskey out of my 50ish bottle whiskey collection.
Great blind choices, Trenton. I bought a bottle of that Very Old Barton 100 on Kurt's high praises a long time ago now, though I still haven't tried it. When I saw that pop up here I was hoping that would take the #1 spot for the value prize underdog.☹ Ah well. For 100 proof, I think that is as cheap as they come.
I have wanted to try that Old Forester but wouldn’t because of the price point but maybe after seeing this it might be a good thing I haven’t purchased it.
Again they missed on throwing 1924 into the blind. That would be the outlier if you wanted an expensive BIB that you probably have on shelf. That or Master's Keep BIB (if you have that).
I'm assuming since this video came out at 8:00 in the morning that it was actually filmed the night before and edited, then posted? You guys don't start drinking at 8am, do you?
Unless they say they are doing a live show everything else is batch shot most of the time. I have seen a channel that did 5 shows in a row same shirt and they were somewhat tipsy at the end.
Idea? Video on your oldest OPEN bottles of bourbon. How long have they been open and have they changed at all? It’s my fear of opening every bottle I own since I won’t be able to drink them all within a year. If anyone has input that’d be great. Like how long does an open bottle last?
Thanks for the McKenna insight. I got my first bottle maybe 6 months ago and after the hype I had heard, I was disappointed. It's just not that good...
