Horus heresy kits are dope. I bought a leviathan and use it as a redemptor in 40k noone has complained about it yet, but im very unlikely to go to an official gw event.
Horus Heresy kits can be good proxies for 40K. 10 Intercessors costs $60.The Mk III Tactical squad costs $75 for 20 Marines. $6 each vs. $3.75 each. They are all Marines with bolters so proxying should not be a problem.
Those value boxes, plus new plastics, I think you are very correct. That's a complete 180 shift from when it was only Forge World resin and making your wallet bleed to get a single army.
Yep, I've given up on 40K marines completely now they've switched over to Primaris basically entirely. HH2.0 is far better rules wise snd far more fairly priced. Really makes you realise how much they were price gouging marines players sell this time of course, but noe I get the benefits I'm less upset about it.
I mean it definitely is especially for loyalist legions, my friend has Imperial Fists and Salamanders 30k models he uses for 40k as well. Traitors is a little tricky because they're pre chaos trims but I do use the dreadnought from 30k for 40k chaos legions since a lot of them got discontinued
@lifeinjersey9846 I mean, even then you can just say that your chaos marine stopped popped out of the warp in a more funky way so that they are from the immediate aftermath of the heresy but when they exited the warp it took them to M42. Of course, you have some legions like the iron warriors who ren't really that big on the whole chaos icons
Personally, I just ripped the jump packs off of my 20 assault marines that don't exist anymore and glued them onto my 20 assault intersessors. I'm a kiwi so price point is even higher for me, I didn't feel like it was worth it at all to spend simillar money on only five guys!
Up until around 2013 GW pricing made some kind of intuitive sense, except for some resin models made in small quantities. Their severe financial mis-management however led them to become bizarre in pricing - from the view of the customer. What's really going on is simple: GW doesn't price stuff based on material cost. Rather, it's about how many of a kit they think the average hobbyist is going to buy over their lifetime. A Guard collector might buy 10 Leman Russ tanks, but only 2 Rogal Dorn tanks. A Space Marine player maybe two 5-man squads of Primaris Jump Intercessors. But ten boxes of Horus Heresy troops. This is why tiny character models are so expensive - 40 bucks for one guy. Most players will only ever buy one of them ever. This kind of pricing is, of course, known in any industry - economy of scale means that products in small numbers end up costing more to make and must be sold for more. It's just that GW is extreme with this, to the point it starts to seem unfair to the customer.
That is interesting. I get it, it makes sense, but I'm still disappointed that that's how it works. As someone who just enjoys modeling and painting, I totally would buy multiples of the same character/HQ if they were cheaper. Thank you for sharing this; I hadn't thought of it that way
Besides the ludicrously high costs as is. Their entire range is on average three times what other companies charge. Even from 3rd party sellers at 20% off are silly prices. £120 for the new Knights and over a ton for Angron is just not doable.
