I'm not blowing smoke here, although burning the firewood I'm throwing around everyday sure does. This tool is honestly one of the best tools you can buy if you handle firewood. It took me a while to learn about this tool but once I did, I will never go back to not owning one. The tool is the pickaroon which is often associated with the name hookaroon. This tool has been a game changer for me and made a noticeable difference in my back and body aches. No longer do I feel like my back is worn out after a few hours of firewood with this tool helping me to reduce bending. With some practice, I've learned the touch needed to pull pieces of wood around the wood splitter including lifting them right up onto it. If you are looking for a must have tool for your firewood splitting chores, this is it. The pickaroon is a staple in my firewood processing right up there with my woodsplitter and chainsaw. Give it a try! Thanks for watching folks.

I'm in the process of making one, ...well two. I have an old axe head I cut in half and will shape and may as well make an extra while I'm at it.

Spring, Summer and Fall, the pickaroon works pretty good. However, trying to move frozen hardwood is another story. I always have to go to a wood hook/pulp hook/birch hook with a winter point on it.

Hello Sandy, I checked at the Ackland Grainger store and the hookaroon costs $37.13 HOOKAROON LIGHT NALCO 36IN HANDLE KEYSTONE Web Price : $37.13 / EACH I am not positive but in the states shipping is free and I thought the shipping was free in Canada also but lately I have been getting a few things wrong so I can no longer guarantee anything. I feel like an idiot but if you want hardware or anything you would buy at a hardware store check out Ackland Grainger. I had an account about ten or fifteen years ago when I was managing a building for the church I belong to. All the best, Edgar

I started making one. Just need to get around to finishing. Bought an axe from Harbor Freight. Cut the width of the head in half and now just need to shape it. The way I cut it I Still got enough left of the axe head to make a second one

I forgot I had one. Saw it in my pile of axes the other day and pulled it out to put it to work. I'll need some practice. Last time I used it I didn't have the right style to make it perform like it should. The rush is on to be ready for winter and firewood is a big part off it. Thanks for another good video

I made one from a crappy axe with my angle grinder last night. It's crude, but seems to work well enough to help me decide on whether to buy a pickaroon or a hookaroon. Will be cutting the handle down so I won't have to choke up on it. It'll be lighter too. Probably went through $10 in cutting disks and should have worn a respirator. 🙄

Sandy, a company called Auckland’s Grainger sells a pikaroon for $33 dollars. I do not know the area you live in so I have no idea if this will be good for you or not. Sorry about the hatchet. They ran out of them about March. I enjoy watching you working on your wood lot. You do have some good ideas. Regards, Edgar

You have to use to much force to go in and out the tip needs to be long and thin. If you build one by hand like in a forge it makes the outside real rough. When you do this all day you’ll notice the difference between one like he has and a proper one. I have yet to find a proper one for sale either you need to build your own

The pickaroon/hookaroon is certainly a great back saving tool for lots of firewood and logging tasks. Not everyone has an old beat up axe to re-purpose or the tools to do such. Husqvarna and Fiskars both make hookaroons and are available on amazon Canada for $60 and $71.00 respectively. The Fiskars one is highly reviewed.

Do you know of a sawmill that is good for quartersawing? It seems like most mills can’t cut very deep.
@sawingwithsandy
@sawingwithsandy 3 года назад
Hi Curt, I'm not too sure what sawmills would work well for quartersawing. I suppose bandsaw mills would all do about the same but maybe the sawmills that have a circular blade and move along the long rail. Can't remember the name of them.
