Cheapest, Easiest Portable Bandsaw Stand

There many ways to make a stand for a portable band saw. My way is very simple. It uses 10 inch wide plywood and a steel plate from Amazon.

By using a switched outlet you can still use the saw as a portable saw. Be sure and use a electrical box and use the black wire as your switched wire on the power pigtail. You can make a holder in the box to store the power cord. Keep in mind the easier you make it to change blades the better. You could even make a slot or 2 to store replacement blades.

You Switch the hot(black wire) not the neutral(white wire). A switch outlet would be better. The box works, that is what counts.

Thanks for sharing, I might try something like that. Alternatively, you could just make a switched outlet inside the box so you could still use the saw as a portable tool.

You should be switching the black wire which is power, and not the white wire which is the neutral or return. As you have it configured the device is always "hot" regardless of switch position. Otherwise an excellent build.

Yeah, I saw that also and was thinking that could queer the pitch some day if you got a short in the saw wiring.

Good build idea. I think I would have used a plug-in box, and a foot pedal for off & on. Just so you know, if you haven't found out already. That little dial on the left side of the handle is the speed dial. Your saw will still run variable speed, just spin the dial.

10:48 Right wire? Hmm, I would suggest you got the wrong one. You should be switching hot/black. Will it make any real difference? Unlikely in this case, though a convoluted scenario could be imagined.

I'd also use an electrical box around that switch! Probably a sealed plastic one, given the metal filings floating about...

Does the foot petal switch, like those used with dremels, allow for variable speed, or just on/off?

It's tempting to do, but you should never use an endmill in a jacobs chuck. These chucks do not handle the side loading well and in addition, don't have sufficient gripping power to prevent the end mill from potentially pulling itself out.

I would of mounted a plug in box on the outside. Drilled a hole in the box and brought the saw plug out to put in the switch on/off plug in box. Saving you from cutting into the saws wiring. And that way you could quickly break it down for mobile use. Yes your cost would go up slightly but there would be those benefits. Nice portable saw mounted stand, simple and very well constructed. It may be the one i'm looking for. I bought the same saw. Thanks for making your video.

i like it. could use a thiner stock on back for shaping to cover back and hook a vacuum up . keeps table soild. no bending on edges.

The variable speed control is that little dial on the side of the handle. You can see it in his vid. His saw will still run variable speed, all he has to do is spin that dial. You can see the dial at 12:56, on the side of the handle.

I researched them all, and for casual use the Bauer gets it done and has given me zero problems. Easy on and off with the belts etc - The other saws may be a little better but are they 200$ dollars better. IMO no - but if this guy was gonna run day in and day out, I usually prefer to get something a bit better branded. Bauer isn't a bad brand though

I just used the blade that came with the band saw - that is I used the band saw itself to cut the plate for the saw.

Since the whole purpose is to cut steel, why would you make to top from wood? If you cut steel on a wood top the shavings will become embedded in the wood. Any cutting oil will soak into the wood. The shavings will then scratch everything that passes over them and will also find their way into your skin. One RU-vidr tried an aluminum top. It didn't hold up either.
