I bought the cheapest machine Walmart had to see just what it would do. I was surprised at how good it was!!! Do you own this machine???? Do you like it???
Yaaayy... I SEWED SOME OLD PIECES OF FABRIC FOR PRACTICE.. I’m still smiling in the inside as if it’s Christmas lol .. and got a hundred things in my head I wanna sew
I enjoyed your videos! I bought a mini sewing machine a couple of weeks ago just to make masks and enjoyed sewing so much that I bought the LX3817A which I guess the color is the only difference between yours and mine. I need hemming lessons and alterations on armholes. I’m petite so alterations are a must for me. I would love to see how to cut patterns and sew with this machine. I’m a beginner so I take what I can!
The bobbin is not exactly threaded like the thread on top. The bobbin is brought around various hooks in its case. The bobbin thread and top thread form sort of a knot at each stitch. One comes from top, one comes from the bottom. Hope that helps!!!
I love this machine. All I needed, or wanted, was a "bare bones" sewing machine...no computerization, etc. (I've found they don't last very long). This is exactly perfect for my needs. At 73 years old, I have been using sewing machines of various makes and models since I was 11 years old, so I know what I'm talking about!
What is it’s actual size?? Is it too small just like in video?? I find it pretty small, I have been using j1400 and it was decent sized, I don’t to switch to smth smaller!
I have a sewing machine I got about a month ago.. have no idea how to use it and I’m in the mood to make a skirt out of old jeans. This is the ONLY video I found that helped me and I would definitely recommend this to anyone that wants to learn! Amazing video!! Thanks :)
ThatsMrs.McCray congratulations on learning to sew. I learned to sew on a Universal from 1968, (my grandmothers machine). It had a left side needle that could not be moved and every time I would wind a bobbin, the bobbin would fly off and hit be on the forehead. I am going to give you a warning, once you buy your first machine, it becomes an addiction and you buy more and more.
I love my basic sewing machine. I’ve had it for 30 years. It sews through all fabrics. My new computerized machines cannot. I always can rely on my good old faithful.
I am not a fan of computerized machines, but I do find myself pulling mine out every once in a while for specialty things only. They have their uses! Thank you for watching and commenting!!!
@@dirtysouth9205 i think they meant most computerized machines are not for heavy duty use. Personally, I only see computerized machine as an embroidery and basic garments machine. You can look for something that is not portable (heavy machines) which is usually a sign that the machine is for heavy duty use.
I usually skip thru these, but you were funny and kept my attention. Just got one for my bday. Haven't used yet. Needed a few pointers. Thank you. Very much..👍🏾
Extra advice from a beginner/ intermediate experience never cheap out on the thread. Get a good quality thread and your machine will work better. I'm trying to get back into sewing because i miss it and this video was amusing and inspirational. I've never used half the stiches available on my machine but i did fall in love with a serger a few years ago.
@@eyelashalot Every sewer has there preference. This machine will handle jean. I sewed 8 layers of denim. My personal choice is Bernina, but unless you want to make jeans for you and 6 kids for the rest of your life, you will not need to invest that much money. I was pleasantly surprised how well this machine does.
OMGAWD!!! THREAD YOUR NEEDLE FROM FRONT TO BACK PEOPLE....REALLY EASY BASIC $!#@... except lol somehow mine was threaded to the side and kept breaking my needle and DEFINITELY NOT SEWING A DAMN THING!!! Geez lmao thank you for pointing that very specific detail out for me
I have this machine and by and large it is pretty decent - it has real issues with stretchy fabrics like elastic, it doesn't like when you fold over and try to do 6 layers of tightly woven quilting cotton for an edge - it will almost always get stuck on that, the feed dogs are just not powerful enough to move the fabric through - I recommend using a walking foot if you have to do anything with a folded edge of more than 4 layers of fabric. Super easy to thread, quiet, otherwise pretty nice basic machine.
Thanks for giving us the demonstration. My puppy dog thanks you I'm sure. Yes I liked your demonstration. I liked, I subscribed and rang the bell too. See you in your next video. If anyone asks you is it possible to sew using only one hand, tell them yes it is. After I had my stroke I thought because I couldn't use my left hand that my designing clothes was over but with a lot of practice I was able to retrain myself to do most of the tasks. Never give up. Not ever!
Thank you so much for your video’s part 1and 2 I’m a beginner in sewing, I have a Brother’s jx2517 it’s like the one on your video! I would love for you to make more tutorials if possible! Love your tutorials they are so helpful! Bless you and your family!
This is a great machine! I bought my machine to do my quilts and it’s a beast of a machine!!! I’ve not had any issues at all with my machine in years! Mine has a different design on the front but still the same machine. Brother is my go to for sewing.
It does 8 layers of denim today, but will it do it tomorrow, next week next month etc? It is probably to much strain for the machine over long term. Great review though.
Just bought this model in 2023 and it now costs a whopping $85!! Lol.. Thank you for the tutorial, however as a beginner and viewing other videos, a crucial piece of information I never would have thought twice about was the to release the presser foot while threading due to tension disks. HELPFUL!!! :)
I've had this machine for about a week... This as basic as it gets... Great for basic sewing... I do hate the plastic lever & the small piece of metal as a screwdriver
Awesome thank you so much! I think I am going to buy this for my first machine! Do you have any experience or an opinion on the Brother XM2701? Nearly the same price, I found it for $10 more than the LX3817...
Excellent video! I haven't bought my sewing machine yet, but I will soon. This video gave me so much relief. Now I feel like I can sew😂 thanks so much! ❤️
That denim test at the end was a reach... it sounded terrible. Also keep in mind that’s the stretchy denim she’s using I’m working with levis thick denim 💀
It was not stretchy denim. It can do those layers, but I did say slow and not recommend doing it on a daily basis. Thank you for watching and commenting!
I'm so glad I found your videos. My 11yr old daughter has always liked cutting things up and creating something new. I would give her old mismatched socks when she was younger to cut up and make Barbie dresses. This past Christmas, I gave her this sewing machine, figuring her and I are both beginners and you never know when a child's hobbies or interest will be old news and be tossed in the corner. That's ok Mommy will use it lol but seriously I think she'll love it once she gets the hang of it so I can't wait to show her your videos. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for making this video! I’m in design and dressmaking school and my hand me down sewing machine just officially broke.😭 So I need a really quick sewing machine option.
Thank you so much I am a beginner in sewing and I want to make my own costume! I am 13 so I am starting off young but I have help! And I can learn alot from others
I just bought this machine today, I’d call myself an experienced beginner but I’m not sure what I’m doing incorrectly with this machine. No matter how I adjust the tension, the threading is just all jacked up
Either you did not follow the threading map correctly or you have the bobbin in upside down or bass-akwards, or you have two different types of threads in the machine, or you've jacked around too much with your tension!
That machine is cheap and I am surprised that it was able to sew through that many layers of denim and did most of the other material as well. I just purchased a new Singer model 2277 sewing machine and have to get extra feet, needles, and other supplies I will need for the machine along with plenty of thread as well. The Brother did a better job than I would expect it to do considering the price.
I have a singer but i got it as a gift. If i had to buy another one i would try a Brother. I love brother products. I have a couple of their products for my crafting, a label maker and a die cutter😄
Okay, I am about to get this now. it's on sale, I want to put ribbon on bottom of tulle and make small baby blankets. can I achieve that with this machine? Thank you
I bought my granddaughter one of them little $22 sewing machines operated by battery and I was surprised how great the stitching was yes it's plastic but for a little girl 9 years old this machine makes a Perfect Stitch I made a minor adjustment on the needle thread and the bobbin and if so just like a professional machine Granite it won't last forever but for 22 bucks and a little girl it works great
I just recently purchased this machine and I love it ! I found that the piece in front under the bobbin (where you make it a free arm ) can hold your accessories like bobbins etc. This was a big switch from my Vintage Kenmore 158.6410 model made in Japan and all metal. Happy Sewing !!!
I'm tired of taking my pants/jeans into the seamstress, its getting super costly, I was considering a decent sewing machine & I'm so glad I saw your review ; ) It was awesome thanku for your info & demonstration ✌🏽
Just a little constructive criticism....please don't keep switching video modes to black and white or whatever other modes you were using. Regular color is all that is needed and actually preferred. And don't turn things upside down. It's not entertaining, just annoying. Also, turning off the sound, speeding through parts, and just not showing steps isn't very helpful for beginners who need to see every step. Lastly, just get to the point. People are here for information and the faster you can get that across, the better your video will be. I don't care that you don't like to do button holes. And you lost me with the amount of time you went on about it. Hope this helps you improve your channel.
This model should be considered the "best" disposable sewing machine. It will get the job done, but don't expect it to last more than two years. You get what you pay for. JUNK!
Im wanting to become a tailor's apprentice. I was told to get my butt in the "seat" and start sewing. What fabrics will this NOT sew, aside form denim?
I have the brother LS-2125... i recieved it as a gift 10yrs ago. I have used it some and like it but was not sure how to use everything as i have little experience. Thanks for sharing the video.
How many repair parts are available when it breaks? When I looked on the Brother website, the only parts they list are presser feet and thread. It even sounds like a cheap child’s toy. This repair tech says “ utter rubbish!”
Exactly!! Times are changing. Inflation is wickedly high and supply chain is lacking. It is so hard for me to find a sewing machine in stock and when I do, its overpriced. Hopefully within a few months, machines are less scarce and the price levels out.
THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS TUTORIAL I bought a sewing machine a year ago and I did everything the manual told me to do and my dumb self thought it was broken but no I was just not paying attention
The reviews on this machine are terrible. It is mostly plastic. If you buy it make sure you tape your receipt to the box. You will need it to return it.
I bought a brother and had constant trouble with thread bird nesting on the bottom. No amount of adjusting tension fixed this. I read that it was a common problem. I will never buy a Brother again!
Something is not threaded right to cause bird nesting. make sure the presser foot is in the up position when threading the upper thread, it opens the tension disk so the thread will fall between them and then when you put the foot down to sew it will put tension on the thread (no tension causes bird nesting) This is the most common error.
If you had so much trouble with it and couldn't remedy it yourself, why didn't you take it in or take it back? Brothers usually come with a 5 to 25 year warranty. I've been sewing for over 50 years and would not sew on anything other than a Brother!
I have never used speed control. I started sewing at 12. It's like learning the gas petal on a car. If you already drive the petal should be easy. Just my two cents though. Happy Sewing!!!
I tell newbies not to spend a lot on their first machine because machines generally depreciate a whole lot when they're used. Newbies can learn on the inexpensive machines and then they don't have a whole lot out of pocket whether they decide they want to upgrade, keep it till it dies, or sell it because sewing just wasn't their thing. And I've sewn for over 50 years and have never used a speed control!
I’ve been using the Australian variant of this machine for 10 years. Once you get to know this machine, you can do anything on it, I have different presser feet for it and not only do I make clothes for my daughter, myself and my family, I also make handbags and purses, I have made quilts, hats, doll clothes, modern cloth nappies/diapers the list goes on! The fabrics I’ve sewed at least includes many different knits and wovens, denim, vinyl, waterproof canvas, pul etc. As I already stated, once you get to know this machine, you will love it!
I’ve been researching and I keep coming back to this machine. I have no clue what I am doing. I want to make small pouches for holding various items and cards.
I can't get this machine to see polyester/ spandex fabric and soft knits. The fabric goes into the needle plate holes and won't feed through. I did buy a ball pt. needle. It still doesn't work.
I would try switching to a sharp needle, which would instead of pushing through would cut ever so slightly. I have never had a problem using sharps, but I know other swear by ball point. The fabric might be thinner as well. Really in any case this is not a problem of the machine, but the nature of the material you are working with. A serger is better at dealing with knits or stretch material. However, you can use stretch on knits with this machine but I would recommend you also try a zigzag stitch. Maybe do a test run of the different zigzag stitches to see which has the best finished look. Hope that helps.
