On the model 58 Remington, the cap on the end of the magazine tube is actually a gas system adjusting knob. There should be 2 settings one for high brass one for low brass like so Kendall can see.

Mine usually will run low and high brass on low setting, then again my sportsman hasn’t been used much and doesn’t have the poly-choke. From what I remember reading the L setting should be good for most, H is meant for Magnum loads.

It's adjustable for loads. Semi autos generally like heavier loads instead of target. The remington has gas adjustments.

@@WinchesterM1912 exactly right, by the looks of it, he was using the cheap low brass lead loads, when he should have used high brass.

Yeah. My semi 20 gauge has to be cleaned quite often because it’s picky when it’s dirty. It doesn’t always shoot when it’s dirty. I was patterning for turkey season and we had to fix it by taking it apart and putting it back together.

If that was birdshot it wouldn't have had enough speed to damage anyone or anything by the time the pellets get to the ground, if anything it might sting a little to get hit

when the bbs go up in the air they loose velocity extremely fast bc they are fighting gravity and dont weigh very much so its basically like throwing bbs up in the air

I have a Sportsman 58 in 16ga. I used it the first time I ever went hunting and got a squirrel with it using 4 shot I believe. Mine had some trouble cycling at first but after shooting a good few rounds through it and oiling it up it worked great. Still my favorite gun, just wish there were more options for 16ga shotshell.

Hey Kendall, with that shotgun, u may need to shoot it quite a bit. It doesn't seem like it was shot much so you may have to break it in a bit. After a bit it'll cycle like normal. Probably around 100 low brass or high brass and you'll be fine

A possible reason it’s not ejecting is because of the shell you are using. The larger the shotgun shell the more force to eject the shell. Idk if it’s gas or inertia powered though. Bump up to 3 in or 3 1/2 in if it is made for them.

You can get a single shot for $120 bucks, Even some pumps used for $120 and under, That's only 6 lawns (or driveways shoveled in winter) , You could do 2+ lawns per day, if you did you could have enough in 3 days

@kendallgray if its a 3 inch magnum the spring is stronger than a 2 3/4 inch only if its a 2 3/4 inch only than it probably just has a tad strong spring intended for turkey hunting and duck/goose hunting hope this was helpful

There is a gas nob at the end of the mag tube. Make sure it’s on lo for low brass and hi for high brass. 😉

in that type of semi auto shot gun if you do not have it shouldered it will never eject/cycle it requires the stock being firmly in place and the shells recoil to blow the bolt back. but also if it needs to be oiled or cleaned or the shells are lower powered it may not cycle reliably hope that helps.
