I’ve got an 08 FJ with 250k miles and I also have a mild shudder if you feather the accelerator between 2nd and 3rd. I added two red tubes of the shudder fix and it was perfect for about 5k miles. But it’s got an occasional shudder again when I first leave the house in the morning. I also did a pan drain fluid change before the shudder additive, but that made it worse. Since it’s minor, I’ll live with it until it gets worse and consider a torque converter service or replacement. Anyway just subscribed and I’ll watch for more videos.

That is great information! I will probably be doing something similar then. It's amazing that a little tube of additive can do anything, really.

I've own a 2010 w/83k miles super clean all around. Factory service only. Looks like you know your stuff. Most important about the whole maintained is changing the Trans. Fluid every 30k miles.

Wow, those are low miles! Congrats! Agree, the tranny service on a regular basis is critical.

Congrats! Wow, that is a lot of my miles. I think a lot depends your attitude, things will break, its normal. I paid $5k for my 40 year old Toyota, $3k for my 25 year old Lexus. My Toyota and Lexus only have 190k and 214k. I replaced the engine on the 40 year old one cause I didn't add more oil after a rebuilt and some driving. $2k to replace it. I spent $3k over 2 years on repairs on my Lexus to fix stuff like exhaust, new tires, suspension, breaks etc. Happy with it overall. I'm sure I could keep them both for a long time, but I'm looking at a bigger family vehicle in the future. My guide in Ecuador had 2 Land Cruisers with 300k miles and drove them daily.

Awesome! I have not yet owned a vehicle with this many miles before but my plan is to take it to 500,000!!! Love the FJ and it is worth taking care of it.

Congrats ! I love those FJ's ! Quick question..does the rear seat fold flat so that a person could sleep in it ? Thank you !
@QuantiQualification
@QuantiQualification Год назад
The lower seat cusion flips forward up against the front seat backs, and then the rear seat backs fold flat. I will have to measure how much length there is for sleeping. I will make sure I put it in a video at some point.

Just picked up a 2007 with 217K miles. Good condition overall, one small crack on the engine compartment fender. All fluids recently changed, newer tires, suspension redone. Paid $12800 for it so fair deal II feel. Thanks for this video.

How do you prevent further damage to windshields?
@kamiahhubert906
@kamiahhubert906 Год назад
And the rest of the car
@QuantiQualification
@QuantiQualification Год назад
Not much can be done besides keeping your following distance as far as possible behind another car and drive (at maximum) the speed limit. These FJ's have a nearly vertical windshield, so they get chipped more than most cars. By doing a windshield repair (which I will have a video covering initial things I do to a newly purchased car) it generally prevents the little chips and cracks from spreading all across the windshield when water freezes into ice in these. We'll see if a windshield repair holds up over time.
@QuantiQualification
@QuantiQualification Год назад
I just use touch-up paint when I get a chip. I don't like putting plastic films or other things over the paint because they can trap water and cause more corrosion or rust beyond what a chip in the paint creates. Seal the new chips with touch-up paint once every few months and it should be fine. Most cars of this age are "10 foot cars" anyway so little chip repairs are not terribly noticeable..

CONGRADUALTIONS on your purchase! I owned 3 FJ Cruisers. They are great vehicles. I had a 2011 and currently own two 2014's. The A-trac is not a huge issue. I believed all you need is to install a switch since all the other system components are already installed in your vehicle.
@QuantiQualification
@QuantiQualification Год назад
Wow, congrats on all 3 that you have owned! The A-Trac programming was only available on the computers if a Rear differential locker was on board. However, I think there is a trick to allow just regular traction control during low range. I will make a video if it works!

I had a supervisor years ago who loved his but traded it in for a Yaris because of his long commute. He also said it had a bad blindspot on both sides. Is that your experience?
@QuantiQualification
@QuantiQualification Год назад
Yes, on the love, and so far, not as much as one would think on the blindspots. The side mirrors are huge, so I am able to see pretty well where the blindspot would otherwise be. The rear pillars are pretty large, but they are a fairway back. Most of the time, I will look back through the backseat window and see everything needed there, and that vision overlaps with the mirrors further back.

I’m getting a Sun Fusion 2008 FJC as a first car, 180K miles on it. My only gripe is is that it’s a 2WD, it’s a first car and I am grateful for it but it makes sense for these to have 4wd 😂, thanks for making this video and showing the potential on how long these will last even when buying used at 345K miles
@QuantiQualification
@QuantiQualification 11 месяцев назад
Don't stress about 2WD vs 4WD. The FJ is super capable in all forms. One of my favorite vehicles was a 1978 Dodge 1/2 ton pickup. It was 2WD and a manual with a granny gear. That thing would go anywhere with the right driver. Enjoy the FJC and welcome to the family!
