This is how I save money. By using a smaller pot which means having to buy less wax. Please send me message on Instagram at carolina_coyote19 if you have any easier way of doing this! Thanks for watching!!!

You can “boil” clean water and put enough wax to create a film and drop your traps in and when you see the wax melt off pull them out through the wax. It takes almost zero wax

Another way to save $, buy the 10# blocks of wax at hobby lobby. Like $19 and my wife usually has a 40% off coupon! I float my wax on water and pull them out slow once trap is up to temp. Takes quite a bit less wax and I am able to do 6 MB 550’s at a time.

Melting wax on top of water & pulling your traps through the wax on top is a lot faster as you can do several at a time without wasting any wax. When the pot cools the leftover wax is easily collected off the top of the water for next time.

When I used to trap late 70,s I used to fill a large home built pot put about 6” of loose oak leaves in it put a couple dozen traps in it. Then fill with water to cover traps. Bring to a boil for a few minutes then put a couple of blocks of wax in the same pot of water and traps! When wax is melted pull out traps and hang to dry!! Happy trapping

I have had a lot of success with the speed dip and caught plenty of coyote foxes and bobcats it works best in very hot weather and I always used hi test gas and hang out and by time to trap they're ready that's especially good for water trapping but i will admit a few preaditors will shy away from the speed black so for the best preaditor trap preparation i always collected walnut hulls and black stump rotten down in the woods and even some hardwood leaves I have a big pot and I boil the hulls and leaves for about 30 minutes at least then I bring it down to a simmer you never boil traps it can take some of the temper out of the steel then I put in the traps and simmer for another 30 minutes and then I toss in a block or two of canning wax and a block of beeswax let it melt on top of the die mixture and then I lift the traps out of the pot slowly and dunk them in and out a time or two and hang them up and I have always gotten a nice even coating of wax on them this way and it is about as fast as possible for die and waxing traps they are sealed in the steel smell and they take on a woods smell and they are faster than any other kind of preparation I have found it is a bit unorthodox but it works for me very well actually

The way I wax my traps is the same all but one process, I have 1 giant pot of traps in all most boiling water, then when my wax is ready in another pot I take 1 trap at a time out of the hot water and then in the wax. This just makes things go a little faster. Love your v keep up the good work.

Melt wax in water ( creek water ) preferably so it’s not chlorinated and dip traps let them heat up and pull it up through the wax. Or use full metal jacket it’s like a floor wax type stuff just dip and hang to dry .

Cut off a 55 gallon metal barrel to the first ring , fill with water , use about 5lbs of wax , let wax melt it will sit on top of the water , it is big enough you can wax 20-30 traps at a time , put traps in barrel , wait 5-10 minutes let the traps get to the temperature of the water, same concept basically , then slowly pull traps up thru the wax and you have waxed traps!!! Hope this helps Just the way I do it!

Good stuff 👍 only other thing I do, not necessarily any easier maybe just cheaper is add water to the wax, takes less wax to dip traps. Dad and grandpaw did it this way back in the 50-70s when every nickel mattered during the muskrat and nutria trapping days

When you’re waxing your traps, take a 55 gallon drum, put water in it and put wax wax of float to the top and put a whole five or six of met at a time in a into it let them get hot like you do and then pull all five or six them back through it the wax stick to them as it’s coming out of the barrel that’s how I do it and I ain’t got no problems doing it

I used the double boiler method last year and it worked fine. But this year I used an electric single burner with the wax pot directly on the burner. This way I could control the temperature better and didn’t have to worry about wax catching on fire or burning in the pot. Keep up with the great videos and good luck this season!

Try pre-heating your traps at the absolute lowest your oven goes. I set my traps in there and after I pull them out, I replace them with cold traps, dip the ones I just pulled out and just keep that system going.

You made a double boiler; a pot within a pot with water in between. This method is used to keep chocolate liquidy and prevent burning when coating other candies and such that are dipped in the chocolate. Thanks for posting this. I was thinking of trying this method myself. I've also seen a video of someone using a crockpot set on low to keep their wax in its liquid state. But most low settings on crockpot are around 300°F. That temperature may be too high for wax, but at least there's no open flame for it to catch fire.

I use a old beer keg, I boils it about ten times be for using it, I use it on a turkey fryer. For dying I can dye about 20 ish traps at a time, then I bought a canning pot from Walmart, holds about 5-7 traps I just run 5 at a time. I add my water about 2/3 way up, add 2lb of wax, by the time my first trap is done my next one comes out I replace the two pull two more put two more pull two more put to more and just keep repeating fastest way I have found.

Not sure if it’s a BETTER method, but, I usually throw wax into the dye and let a film form on the top. Slowly pull the traps out of the dye and they should coat fairly even as you pull them through the wax.

What's your thoughts on painting traps and then using a product like full metal jacket???
@CarolinaCoyote
@CarolinaCoyote Год назад
I’ve seen people use it and have success. But personally, I don’t like them. The point is to make the traps 100% scent free. When using those products you’re using things that have an enormous amount of smell on them and then you have to wait for the scent to wear off before they can be put on the line. Just my opinion though!

If you dye the traps with the cold method, how long exactly should you leave them. I don’t have any way to boil my traps
@CarolinaCoyote
@CarolinaCoyote 9 месяцев назад
I’m not exactly sure how long exactly that it takes. BUT if cold is the only way you have to do it, just leave them in there until they get a rich/dark black color to them. Check them every few days until you get the dark color and when you do, you’re good to go! I hope this helps!
