You gotta apologise to alireza for what you did, you might have been mad at the heat of the moment, but what you said was rude and out of character. If you don't apologise, you will slowly know the consequences. Do the right thing.

You know your law system is fucked when you have to fear naming the person who has been proven (unlike the Hans Niemann case) to have cheated because they could sue you. That's outright crazy, like "oh yeah, I did violate the fair play agreement but if you say that I did you're going to lose money". Where is the freedom of speech to address the wrong things someone has done.
@raylopez99
@raylopez99 3 месяца назад
Good point, though in the comments section of the original site they did name the cheater. Cheating in chess when money is involved is a variant of fraud, though I doubt anybody presses charges.

FWIW, if Hikaru made public insults and publicly humiliated others -- which he did -- then he should reconcile publicly, as well as privately. To be clear, he is under no obligation to do so. But if he doesn't, many people -- like me -- will absolutely see him differently moving forward. I almost unsubscribed last night, but I want to hold some space. I know what it's like to make a public mistake, and it's only fair to be given some patience and compassion, in the hope that one will put their ego aside and be socially responsible. It's unsettling knowing that Hikaru is capable of such immaturity, but hey, he's human. We all lose it from time to time, especially when frustrated or upset. It's really not the end of the world. And yes, some people may remain angry or vitriolic, but I am one who has learned to forgive and let live. I'm rooting for him to recover from this as much as I was rooting for him to win the Candidates.

These big opens, the tournament directors just don't care. I was a victim of this nonsense, only the opponent had a big binder full of all his opening lines, and just whipped it out like it was perfectly legal for the first 10+ moves. I went to the TD twice...they did not do a thing. In the big tournaments, the TDs only care about the open section. If you are in the class sections, you are on your own. It is all just a money making operation. They want to keep the titled players coming back, the rest don't matter. The lower levels don't turn in their scoresheets either, and rarely get them signed by the opponent. 3 times, I have had the opponent beat me to the sheet on the wall where you post the result, and put the wrong result...in their favor. I stopped going to those big tournaments.

Too bad they can't record every board from overhead and players from each side because video cameras are incredibly expensive and would need to be replaced at every single tournament! Maybe you can't catch a cheater in real-time, but you can later re-view every game they played! But I'd bet a super GM could verify 16 games in split-screen; just as long as he's beered up!

@travisb2842
@travisb2842 3 месяца назад
Eh, pull in some security experts from Vegas for a think-tank session and see what their thoughts are on setting up some sort of system that could be replicated and installed at tournaments. It probably comes down to number of cameras and positioning to capture angles of each game to allow for review after the fact. They probably can't have the unnamed cheater return money won because they can't prove he was cheating. They can say his play was suspicious enough to bar him/her from future events (as a private entity can do at their discrection), but don't have enough evidence to defend a case in court to have money returned. So camera footage on all games that can be manually reviewed after the fact can be like the last step in the process of proving someone was cheating (because that will probably be the most labor intensive part) after an engine determines that the player was playing outside of what would be considered normal for their rating.
