Wronskian,
Wronskian for linearly independent functions,
Use Wronskian to show that 3 functions are linearly independent,
if the wronskian is NOT identically 0 on an interval, then the functions are linearly independent on that interval,
Use definition to show LI:

Why can't a zero Wronskian be used to prove linear dependence? Can it ever be used to prove dependence?

Does the same method work for 4 functions ? im assuming only difference is you have to carry over the first 3 columns instead of 2.

it would not. you would use cofactor expansion to make more 3x3 matrices for which you can use the 3x3 rule he used for those matrices.

Why not developing the det along the 3rd row, which contains 2 zeros!! => only a 2X2-det is to calculate for the 3x3 det

nueffl No because the moment one function can be written in terms of the others the whole set becomes linearly dependent.
