Ooh i've seen the archiement for this. Platinuming this badboy gonna be tough one. The two evil and good fusion require at least 6 playthrough to unlock them
@sjakkalul tbf, every game I've seen that sponsored the channel is something I'd actually play or would try. If I saw Raid Shadow Legends on this channel, then I don't know what I'd do.
Though from what I hear, the story is still an incomplete mess. Even the new one. Regarding actual direction and vision, they haven't really put out something truly great in a long while. SMTV is basically diet Nocturne.
@@matteste The nocturne comparisons don’t feel as justified anymore really I’d argue that the game is closer to 4 apocalypse by the end. Especially the new endings
@KawaIMerc they said the same thing about Persona. I specifically sent Sega feedback about that lol. Took a couple years, but they did it (along with Phantasy Star)
Never played a Shin game but I love turn based games and this interests me for ps5, confused with most of the vids on here but I'm almost at the point of parting with my cash.
@@JellyJman Nah, it's exactly the same. Release a game, then release an upgraded version as a standalone. Persona 5 Royal, anyone? 3 versions of persona 3? Oh, scrap that, P3 now has 5 different versions! There are probably people who bought all of them.
@@ragvald8835 The difference is the base games of what you described were all perfectly serviceable standalone titles, while smt 5 has many jarring mechanical and narrative issues due to development problems, and released both a touched up base game and entire new standalone story with it while the others you brought up only expanded the already there story. The only one that comes close is persona 3 fes which came with answer, but even then the base game didn't have as many jarring issues there.
@@OsnosisBones OG SMTV story wasn't anything to write home about, but it was logical continuation of the series. We saw world getting destroyed in Smt3, we murdered a god in smt4, now in SMTV we fought for said gods emptied throne. Could have they handled it better? Sure. But the story is essential to a series at large, and I'm pretty sure it's still canon. That's why they can't just scrap it or change it, and had to go with alternative universe BS.
Already bought this and I’m about 15 hours in, but I was very curious to hear your thoughts! Hopefully this sponsorship means there’s a good chance you’ll be covering Re;Fantazio in the future too!
I've waited forever for this to finally hit the PlayStation and I am stoked. I've played the smt series all the way back to digital devil saga back in the early 2000s
Glad you got to try it! I love the series (and Persona) and loved V on my Switch. I pre-ordered Vengeance on PS5 (I love a physical collection and it had a steelbook) but will most likely pick it up on PC at a later date during a sale like I did with the other SMT/Persona games. Hope you play through the whole game! Would love to see you do a full review on it. 😊
I'll be honest I don't really have the time it would require to play it fully atm, but I did enjoy it a lot. Might manage to circle back to it at some point
Yeah, it's re-release of enhanced version what usually Sega Atlus is doing, but I wish you would give it 100% review treatment. Game has quite addictive gameplay and great exploration aspect. Also music is top level for this kind of game.
Atlus is actually pushing the game down everyone's throats this time, I have seen so many youtubers who normally wouldn't talk about this game actually make a video about it. It's hilarious.
Thanks for the video. I'm not sure why, but the SMT universe has always been a bit difficult to get into. Not that you take requests, but if you do a 100%, something I would like to know if this game has a time limit like the Persona series. Onward to 400k. All glory to the algorithm.
I played the previous version on Switch and also completed some earlier entries of this series on PS2 and 3DS. Glad to see the improvements - when I finish the Switch version I will most likely give it another go with Steam release. The distributor seemingly wants to reach, uh, new audiences seeing the marketing campaign of this game, but I'm perfectly fine with this.
The only thing that changes from SMT games and the spin-offs are the stories and graphical design, very few gimmicks added but it's pretty much the same gameplay!
Only bought persona 5 for the first time when they released the PS5 version and i never bought the switch version when it comes to this game. I will wait for Metaphor as well.
Playing one of these games in the series or offshoots (i.e. Persona) is similar to playing a Pokémon or Final Fantasy game in that they all share a gameplay theme even if the stories are radically different. In this series case, it's about fighting and collecting demons and creatures that are pulled from real historical folklore from around the world. The mainline series tend to be a bit of dark fantasy and a dash of cyberpunk. Persona is more slice of life and pop psychology.
Hated having to play this on the Switch - it ran OK but the menu lag drove me insane. Glad they included a new plot since the OG was attractively forgettable. I hope this one will be sexy memorable.
Did you play on hard mode? I heard some changes from the original made the game less difficult so im wondering if hard mode is the most fitting difficulty now.
After reviewing LAD: Infinite Wealth and SMT V is there any chance you'd also cover TLoH: Trails through Daybreak ? (the english release date is the 5th of July)
Persona is one of many spin-off series of Shin Megami Tensei. Persona eventually became more well known and successful than its "parent", especially in the west. There are other fun spin-offs too.
I dont think il ever support another atlus game day 1. Everytime i do it gets a better version that is not dlc. Im sure Metaphor will be the same way unfortunately.
I can’t believe it is finally here. I was so disappointed with the quality of it on switch, I couldn’t bring myself to kept playing it. So far the PS5 version is everything I hope it would be especially for one thing… save anywhere! Sure I don’t use it too often as a crutch but to not have it there in the first place was terrible.
I believe it's only the other release, unless they decided to sell it again on Switch as a separate product, I would check the store on Switch just in case, but weirdly the devs didn't talk about Switch much that I noticed in translations.
Downloading it now on PS5 after giving up on the Switch version and hoping for a port due to poor performance. Hope it sells well on PC, PS and Xbox so the next installment hopefully isn't shackled to Nintendo's hardware.
I knew this was coming eventually one because Atlus loves doing a definitive version of their JRPG's these days like Persona 5 Royal and two the Switch just could not handle this game. Just a very unenjoyable experience there largely because of the performance there. You will be battling a lot like all of the time it is the game. None of the social stuff from Persona just raw JRPG grind and battles and over world exploration so not having that be a smooth experience it just felt unbearable on switch. It needed badly to be freed up to other platforms. That said definitely a game for the JRPG purists that like a challenge because on the harder difficulties you come correct or get washed up good. Also hopefully the new story is a lot more engaging this time around because the original was just window dressing for the game play and SMT games usually deliver some hard hitting narratives.
@@Stoneforge1501 SMT is even connected to persona lore wise, only loosely basically persona is a soft continuation from SMT If... (The main character of SMT if... Shows up in P1 and P2) as the title says it takes place in an alternate timeline where the apocalypse never happened
SMT has 0 social sim elements, and that's like 80 percent of a Persona game lmao. I really like Persona 3,4, and 5, but you have to really be in the mood for reading for hours on end about mundane high school life. SMT is for when you want a genuinely challenging experience without any of that. Persona is just a simplified version of the combat along with being much easier in general as well (Mostly talking about P3R and P5R)
@@darkcult99yeah pretty much, one is the original release’s story of the game while the other one is additional content that basically makes the game a more improved and complete version compared to the original release especially with the story.
Not all of them. The new ones certainly, but those taken from OG Persona 5 sure are rough and are in dire need of an overhaul. Also, the shading used doesn't quite capture Kaneko's style. I remember some of the new ones from Royal almost looked like they walked right from Kaneko's original art though. In there they really managed to capture the lightning necessary to make the style come to life.
loved smt 5 on switch. Getting to play this on ps5 with far better performance and visuals AND all the quality of life stuff and new content is a dream come true.
Great game in 2021 but performance was really lacking. So glad they're re-releasing and adding more content. Can't wait to play. thanks for covering Mortym!
Do you like this better than Nocturne? I am halfway into Nocturne and it's arguably one of the best JRPG ever made, while I didn't so much appreciate SMT V when it came out on Switch. But it seems to be much better now.
@@S_F_S SMT5 definitely has the better gameplay/exploration/QoL features. I also love the throwbacks to Nocturne/4/4A in the DLC. Nocturne, on the other hand, has the overall better OST/atmosphere. Ad for the story, I don't think it was anything to write home about in both games. And it probably didn't change much in Canon of Vengeance from what i heard (i'm still on my Canon of Creation playthrough).
@@yagami999913 would you suggest I start directly with the new vengeance arc/mode? I don't think I have it in me to do 2 full playthroughs in such a long game
@@S_F_S you can definitely do the Vengeance route first if you want. We even just found out that you can unlock the Vengeance superboss without needing to clear Creation first.
Wow, I never thought I would see the day one of my favorite content creators would do a video to one of my favorite game franchises ever, (aside from CRPGs like Pathfinder) this is really cool!
Sorry if I missed it or misunderstood but the campaign choice, is the new campaign the same one generally but with more stuff or is it totally different (story/characters ect)?
My only question as well, thinking about branching out to this from persona and don’t know which campaign to pick, considering people say the og story is weak
@@IRepkoI'd go Vengeance it sounds like Canon of Creation doesn't have much of anything over Vengeance. To be fair, SMTV is heavily gameplay focused by comparison to Persona and getting lost in this world is incredible
@@dabwiso784this will be my first time playing V, so you're certain we should probably do the new story? I doubt I'll play it twice as well, but story means a lot to me so if the regular choice is lacking id prefer something better. Thanks ahead of time!
Im surprised but shouldnt be that Mort covered this. Nocturne and DDS were hugely important to me as a kid so im glad to see this series getting proper love lately
Can confirm, it is better than it originally was, and that is no mean feat as the original was probably the best gameplay the SMT series has provided. Even more, it's still the best quest to sit in a chair you will ever play.
I was planning on buying the OG wayback but when I heard they'll rerelease this one I waited. But upon seeing it being played on Xbox Series X and PS5, I'm kinda hesitant buying this on Switch (my current device). I don't think it was worth the full price. I'll just wait for the discounted one I guess(like how I got the newer Star Ocean 2). Great video as always Boss.
I just need to know that the base game is different from the other base game. I get to this new stuff with vengeance but.. are we able to recruit Demi fiend in the base game of 5. we couldn't in the original..
I think you should get around to reviewing this one. Especially since you can clarify the difference between both the Cannon of Creation and Cannon of Vengence.
@@yagami999913 No need to be a smartass. Was referring to if the game got a texture update from the switch version or just resolution support. Obviously it will perform better. Was asking how noticeable it is given it was originally made for the switch.
Glad to see that you got to try out this game. I played original on my friend console when it came out but never complied it when he needed it back. I liked it a lot and bought PC version today. I hope new story is better because i cant remember almost anything about it in original after like 20 hours that i played .
I wanted to love the OG but the story was soulless and the level scaling was actively anti-fun. I'm excited to jump into all the new stuff and quality of life improvements.
1, didn't expect to see SMT ever on this channel. Awesome surprise 2. If you don't play the persona games, that is fine, but I think reviewing one of the older SMT games (like PS2 or earlier) would put in context how much the title has evolved over the years. 3. Have you looked into Super Robot Wars?
@@MortismalGaming TRPG that heavily involves various Japanese anime mech shows. The story’s are convoluted, but the mechanics is were it shines. Super Robot Wars 30 is personally too easy, but the combat animation are impressive.
Excellent game so far. I played up till the first boss and it is really great so far. My only worry is the difficulty curve will plateau as you get more powerful demons as these games tend to be but we will see. Mainline SMT tend to be difficult at least more than the more popular persona.
Damn, I'm kind of falling out of love with JRPGs at the moment. I think FF7 Rebirth was a major step up for the genre, and I'd like newer jrpgs in that vein. JRPGs that do a good job of taking what we loved from the 2d snes era, and 3d psx era, and bringing it to modern times. Visions of Mana is an example of that. This game just looks kind of too old school for me. I need faster.
