Today I visited the Australian Computer Museum Society workshop in Croydon, Sydney. I got to hang out with some wonderful people, all dedicated to preserving and cataloging vintage computer history, especially Australian computer history. I also had a chance to speak to ACMS president, Adrian Franulovich about what the ACMS does, and why it's so important.

The ACMS really is an incredible place, I remember walking in for the first time after all the equipment had been moved in and being absolutely blown away.

Many of those machines on the shelves look familiar and of course many I’ve not seen before. It’s nice that they have the ethic of preserving the old technology and documentation. The media types are interesting as well. I got into computing on the cusp of old room sized units going away and into the desktop pc revolution. It was an exciting time in the late 70s and 80s as technology was really starting to grow so prolifically and change virtually everything. Of course then we couldn’t foresee the amazing tech we take for granted today, but I have a fondness for the old vintage equipment that paved the way for future tech!

What Modcomp model is it at 4:57? We have a Modcomp 9250 at work that we still are using a little. But we have created a emulator to be able to run the old operating system (MAX IV) and its applications on a modern Windows computer that are taking over the use of the old Modcomp hardware.
