That’s a cool van. The first time I saw one was in Puerto Rico and the guy that had it did a pretty big burnout. After that I wanted one. A 2jz would be so cool in one of those. Great buy.

told ya dan...U are an Australian at heart! Mullet, Attitude(but really a nice guy), burnouts, Supra, now a Toyota "tarago" as a daily...they where huge here in Oz in the 80s 90s...

That thing is cleaner than my 86 toyota cargo van.. my original 4yec blew up so now it has a chinese carbureted 4y in it and runs great.. 25-28mpg all day long with that 5 speed.. does yours have front and rear ac like my van does? Shit throws ice cubes after 10 minutes... love this pos

Sweet purchase dan. Van isn't going to be much of a race car, I'd day keep it a cool fun people mover. Allround service and maintainence. Different wheels, modernized interior, party stereo. Then maybe a cool mild engine swap for daily reliability.

@@RADIndustries by motor do you mean engine?! I'm looking at buying one of these here in the UK. There's a 1988 (angular bodywork and interior) petrol (gasoline for americans) automatic up for sale a few hours train ride away from me. From the pictures and description it appears to be in impeccable condition but it has 175k miles on the clock... It was my boyhood dream car and there's only one or two for sale in the entire country at any time. I think there's only around 200 in existence in the whole of the UK and a small fraction of those will be this older (and cooler, like yours) model! It would be my daily drive, so access to spare parts is crucial, hence my question. It's such a cool van though... Have you found yours to be relatively reliable? And do you think I'd be crazy get the one that I've seen for sale? Thanks!

It’s pretty reliable, not the most reliable vehicle Toyota has done but it works pretty well. I get that motor means electric and engine means combustion but that rule of thumb Isn’t followed very well in the USA so the term motor or engine is used as the same thing most of the time here

I own two of these vans; my first is a 1987 4wd with a 4yec, the second is a 1989 2wd that is getting a 5spd swap from a 1986, and is also a 4yec. The 2wd is going to get modded out to drift as soon as my 4wd gets a lift to fit 30" tires and a few other amenities due to a bad fuse box and age. The best thing about the 4wd is the ice maker that came with it. These vans are absolute gold, and will run almost forever if maintained. "F" new vehicles, if you can't work on it, don't buy it.
