oh my god, What a wonderful machine, Just the organic sound of the V12, Nothing will ever top the Mclaren F1 in my eyes, The veyron needed 13 years and 400 horsepower more to beat it and does not look or sound half as good as the Mclaren. I hope i will get to see one in the flesh one day.
Love it. The greatest car. Really enjoyed the camera angle for the driving, was great to see your feet and hands. A camera B would have been nice to see the track too, but hey can't ask for too much!
Hi - and thanks for bothering to comment! actually I had to use that angle as thats the only camera that was mine on the shoot! A full cooler version will be coming soon! jb
Back in the day when these cars were not racing at LeMans they were mostly racing in the BPR GT series. I was lucky enough to see them race live in that series at the Nurburgring in June of '96. Absolute amazing cars that were way ahead of the time. Of course a Mclaren F1 GTR won the race that day.
To get to race the F1 at LeMans WITH YOUR DAD! That is about as cool as it gets. Thanks for the tour. Definatly subbed, just don`t know how i didn`t find this channel sooner
Just WOW! Such an incredible car, sound and an intensity not seen in race cars anymore. Everything analogue and mechanical (well, apart from the ECU to run just the engine and base systems). A true icon of motoring and racing. To think about taking a road car, almost straight from the production line to the track is almost unheard of, and it's really crazy what they managed to achieve, but a true testament to such an amazing car. Thanks for an awesome walk around of the car and the insight into just what it's all about, plus you've got love the blipping on the down-changes you can see through the steering wheel as you're driving, AWESOME! Great work and keep the awesome videos coming :)
What an amazing video! I enjoyed it so much! As a kid growing up in the 90's I had posters of this car all over my walls. I drove it in any video game I could find that had it and collected books, brochures and magazines that had any mention of the F1. It is still a dream of mine to see one in person and hear that glorious v12 roar! Thank you so much for making the video with such a personal touch on the walk through and then a quick lap with just the glorious sounds of the car! I really appreciate your love and reverence towards such an amazing machine. Ive babbled on long enough. Thanks again!
Thank you so much! TO be honest I have had tens of millions of views on other peoples portals and its only recently that I focussed on putting my own content up on my channel! Its time to get some subs! I appreciate your support and everyone helping spread the word! Thanks, JB
justinbelltv No problem, one would think that your name alone would peak people's interest, atleast if they know their racing history. Not only the family racing pedigree but also the fact that your father set the speed record for production cars in the standard version of the very car you're driving in this video. Mindboggling stuff, good luck JB, you surely derserve it :-)
I think also , I've found that a lot a lot of folks (Car channel) are road car, BRAND, GT fans and not race fans , so may not know heritage..might only know of Justin as "a reviewer from motor trend channel"... look like it when JB starts posting regularly, though. Awesome channel.... but hey, it's tough since he's traveling regularly w IMSA... I'm fortunate to catch all the faces via DVR each week.. FS1,2!
The only beast that sounds better than a Zonda 760! This video is a hidden gem on RU-vid and I love that POV as you get that feeling of driving in a unique central position. I've finally found one of the best McLaren F1 videos!
Justin -- thank you so much for sharing this! The F1 in street car and GTR form has always been one of the most incredible automotive packages by McLaren/BMW. Can't imagine the feeling of ripping around Mid-Ohio and then ever wanting to get out!
Thanks for sharing this special moment! I really liked the camera angle showing your footwork and shifting, focusing more on the sensation of the mechanical workings on the car instead of the track. Greetings from Germany
Thanks for enjoying it - you will see more of the track and action shots when the full video is released soon on a new show coming up on Motor Trend on Demand - more info to follow!
Oh my gosh that was fun, I don’t watch a lot of driving videos because you just don’t get a good feeling and how it is but where you had the camera, watching you work the car and that beautiful sound the car makes. Wow like I said that was fun. Thank you. PS your father was my fathers favorite driver. My dad would just say, there is a class act. Stay safe and be well.
I remember when Speedvision had a documentary of the F1 and loved hearing Gordon Murray and his team talk about their creation, I may even still have that on VHS somewhere :)
Thank you Justin, excellent video and content. My husband met your dad at Oulton Park circuit in 1968, I think, when he drove F1 Ferrari.......now subscribed to your channel xxx
Wow. That was incredible. That engine sound while revving. At first, I was disappointed with the chest cam but that footwork is phenomenal to watch. By far the best seating position of any road car ever made. Still crazy to think it won Le Mans outright beating the prototypes. Justin that was amazing. So cool. Thank you
+justinbelltv you explaining the F1 is what made the video. There are other f1 videos out there but not with a driver that raced it at Le Mans explaining it. Seriously cool stuff. You can that the F1
Thank you for that ! MEGA! There is a run being organised, here in New Zealand, by McLaren, November , 30 international entries last I read, can not wait!!
Nice! This reminds me of when I was 5 years old sitting in the passenger seat as my Dad drove his brand new 1969 428cj Mach 1 off of the dealer's lot. I couldn't see over the dashboard! :-)
Wow Justin, just beautiful, the rawness is what speaks to me, electronics and too much driver aids have disconnected drivers from thier cars somewhat, I love analouge cars where you get that feeling of pure driving, a big buzz for sure. Thanks for swhowing us the car mate, def a arare opportunity.
Awesome! Thanks so much for this wonderful view into an icon of the motorsports world...and for the ride too...man that motor and gear-box are pretty sweet!!
Arguably it is the car which blew the production super car industry out of the water, by slaying just about anything else that was road legal at the time. McLaren redefined the segment with this car. Even today, despite its analogue componentry, its still no slouch on the track. And when you look at the exterior it doesn't look dated, or obsolete. Thank you for this rare glimpse...heck it sounds good on start up!
Great Video Justin! I remember watching you and your dad race the Harrods car at Le Mans, was it 1995? Wow how time flies! Almost got the ride in an F1 at the BMW CCA Octoberfest in 2005 with Bill A, but got to ride in the E36 M3 GTR..Meet you at the 12 hrs of Sebring this year (2021) in the Torque show both, Thanks for your time, huge fan !
how is there only 3900 subscribers to this channel? i feel like i stumbled across the lost crown jewel of automotive youtube channels. thanks jb for doing this.
Another youtuber summed up growing subscribers as: "When you first start out on youtube you get a thimble, and that thimble represents your subscribers. Every video is another thimble to catch more. As you grow those thimbles turn in to cups, then buckets, the bathtubs. " Keep publishing and the people will come. Some recent youtubers that have blown up, have gone from 4 digits to 6 in two weeks.
Recently found your channel and am hooked. Thanks for the first person perspective of such an icon not only in motor sports but the automobile industry as a whole!
Great video, Justin! To be honest i haven't known about you for long (since the video with Mr JWW) but your content is very unique (from a professional drivers perspective) and genuine. I hope you keep posting content, I really enjoy watching it!
I only wish the camera was dash height ,still the steering wheel view was hectic lol.. Justin your great mate...your a top bloke, and I love your videos..You deserve more views and subscribers ,people are missing out ,.many thanks for the fantastic effort. I love how you also love the F1 so much. I have always melted over this beautiful machine. They must feel much more dangerously exciting in a way compared to the P1 GTR.Or maybe I'm not precisely right about that .
HiJustin, you probably don't remember me but I made the film about your exploits at LeMans. I'll never forget your face as you listened to Andy Wallace talking about aquaplaning on the Mulsanne Straight! It was one of the highlights of my life too. All best Ben Bowie
Had to revisit this video as the symphony of noises this car makes (starting ca 6'45 in video) are just amazing. No video required, just get a good wide dynamic range microphone and record and hour or two of raw audio please! Thank you JB!
Justin I have to ask, it seems like you are short shifting and sometimes not even down shifting through some of the turns - was it wet out or is the just how that car is driven? Excellent video!
I knew I made the right choice as a kid to dub the F1 as "the holy grail" the moment I laid eyes on it. just the look alone gave me chills down my spine.
I just came across this video and it's perfect. How was the interior lighting at night? I mean, it looks like the only light you had was from the display. But if a fuse blew or you needed to access the wipers or other buttons, how could you see them at night during the rain? I'm working on updating the McLaren F1 GTR in Assetto Corsa so it is more realistic.
I always thought it would be exciting to see Mclaren team up with BMW for F1. Although, Mclaren-Honda is legendary as well so can't complain too much about the current partnership :)
Nice video👍 The filming when driving the beast could have been alot better... A dsh cam or something so we could have seen the track and have some notion of the speed/acceleration.
Damn. That was really cool. F1 GTR driven by proper racing driver. I wish I was riding shotgun there. That perspective from helmet chin really cool. I hoped you had another cam to show us the track also. Damn action cams without built in screens to check what's in the frame... I can imagine how disappointed you ware when you found out that the framing wasn't the way you wanted. Hopefully in the future the cam will go on top of the helmet.
Ralph Lauren has three McLaren F1’s and so do I, but my three have zero miles on them: Maisto 1:18 dark blue. Maisto 1:18 silver. Hot Wheels 1:64 I forgot it’s color.
I think these cars were perfection. They are just as capable as modern cars but you had to have true skill to extract the performance. I think racing would be better if they would revert back to this type of formula; they sounded great as well!
