Toyota has identified the problem with a very some amount of 22 and 23 Tundra’s which is a manufacturing issue not a design flaw. I have had many Toyota’s and I stand by them.
Toyota needs to give its customers impacted by this recall free extended warranty and extend the warranty on new tundra's in addition to price reduction else no one in their right mind is planning on buying one
@alderringer8816 i can tell you first hand (my sister), that 100k power train warranty from kia isnt all its cracked up to be. Shes going through that big engine issue they are having over there.
@@TundraDude34 Gotcha, but they have to do something to ease the minds of potential buyers like me. I'm on the fence. I looked at a Limited today at Turnersville Toyota, but didn't pull the trigger. I'm thinking about holding on for the 25s but, I just might wait to see if there are any 24 recalls.
Not a chance! In these 8 years of TundraDude, ive seen paint issues, cam tower complaints, rust issues, infotainment problems, waste gate, bearings, trim issues, bed rattles , wind noise etc. You name it, ive seen the recall on it. We will wade through these waters, get all the Tundra faithful situated, and move forward. I’m here to stay. Being a RU-vid channel owner is like being a punching bag sometimes, but I know what ive signed up for. I can handle it
A Tundra would be the absolute last truck I would consider in today’s environment. Not only did Toyota completely fail on the redesign, the engine issues are a hard pass. This guy has bumped his head.
All these comments are so interesting. So what truck are you considering? Since they all have some kind of reliability issue. Toyota normally corrects their issues, but would be interesting to hear what you are planning on picking up.
I haven’t heard of any failures coming out of local dealership. The only recall on my 23 platinum was the reprogram for the transmission/parking issue. They also corrected a bumper attachment. I’ve had 6 vehicles from this dealership and they’ve never turned their backs on us. I’ll always go Toyota.
I looked at a Carfax on a pre-owned 2023 with low miles. Last service performed for the previous owner simply said short block. What are the chances the tech got all the tolerances right when he put it back together? They normally plug their diagnostic tool in and change parts. Most are not capable of rebuilding engines - that's not their background. Hard pass on the vehicles until we have a cut off VIN # when there has been an actual design or part change made to fix the problem.
I wouldn’t buy one for 60,000 off…except to maybe sell to someone that I don’t like! 😂 I like to drive and to have little worry that I’m going to make it where I’m going! I’ll keep my 5.7!
These are 2024s, not part of the recall. They are also all hybrid, not part of the recall. And for the 3rd gen hate club, 3 beautiful 2nd gen Tundras toward the end 👍🏼
Monumental blunder from Toyota. Imagine getting gouged for a truck that has a recall for engines randomly grenading. I own a Tacoma and an old FJ40 but wouldn't touch a Tundra now.
Hey, some of us find this interesting and informative. TundraDude vids helped me to decide which model i purchased in March. Thanks for what you do, TundraDude.
I bought a 2024 1794 limited edition a month ago before I heard about the problems with the 3rd gen. I just had my oil changed and there was not any metal shavings. I owned a 2014 1794 for 10 years and am disappointed in Toyota for getting rid of the V8, but I have to say, I love the way the 2024 drives. But I’m also angry about changes like the engine shutting off angry an hour of sitting , and there’s no override. But it seems to me that the reactions on social media are irrationally disproportionate. First, it’s usually recommended to not buy first or even second year vehicles. The first gen Tundra had issues after it’s release. And, there wasn’t social media back then. So, the more you pay attention to overblown hate’n with the mass psychosis effect of social media, then you lose informed, historically literate perspective.
I think there is a stop sale on the standard engine so that’s probably why you only see the iforce max. With all the issues we’ve seen on the tundra I was expecting a bigger discount by now
There is a stop sale on the standard engine of those model years with the production dates in question, not the 2024. I believe i heard the stop sale affects 80 units nationwide
Yes, crazy deals and I'm presuming the people buying these Tundras have no idea about the engine recall. I have to imagine there are people out there who are not aware of the Tundra recall.
The hybrid trucks are not in the recall group. I wonder if these drivetrains are built elsewhere, Japan? With the engine recalls you have to think it came down to a couple of people not engaged to do their jobs properly to clean out the engine machining debris or the process used wasn’t correct and consistent to complete the job.
I’m just glad that Toyota is doing something about this but, why doesn’t the dealership change the oil once it hits the dealership to get all the loose small metals out then have them charge the oil every three thousand miles with no cost for a year my guess is that metal shavings are getting trapped inside the engine cause the main spun bearings to fail 🤷♂️
I feel like you left something out...like; Debris during manufacturing may not have been properly cleaned from the engine during assembly, risking performance problems. The concern is that with some engines, debris may interfere with the operation of the crankshaft main bearings and cause the bearings to fail. This could result in engine knocking, running rough, stalling, or not starting.
None of us is fixing to buy a 2024 with a six. I watched one explode on a freeway. It was not pulling anything heavy. Its probably time to Fire the ceo and most of. Their engineers that designed that way underpowered engine.the new Toyota exploder.
Personally I'm loving my 2024 Tundra..hopefully the engine issues are overblown...like most things on the internet.. I have no recall on my truck..and no issues so far...trim and quality control was on point.
Mark, based on the recent quality control issues with the Tundra, you may be able to help Tundra owners with their quality problems. Hopefully you can share some tips on how to deal with the dealers and Toyota corporate.
Hopefully, its cut and dry when the remedy comes out. If i was on the recall, i would already be in touch with my dealership service advisor, to get me in there when the remedy comes out.
@@TundraDude34 There is no remedy. Toyota issued the recall to get in front of this disaster. By issuing the recall, they're protecting themselves for when the next engine fails. Recalls help limit liability and damages, not to mention class action lawsuits. Toyota is not in the business of protecting the consumer's interests. They're in debt and have terrible PR rn now. Wake up people!
I have a 22 1794 that had my engine blow. Toyota of Scranton did the short block. if you need service and are at Toyota of Scranton ask for service advisor John Higgins.
@TundraDude34 That's interesting. You've got a good size channel and you haven't got a verified engine failure on a 3rd gen. Not calling some of the comments liars, but I wanna see legit paperwork from the Toyota Maintenance Departments. I believe the failures are happening but I think the percentage is low. My 24 is on a lease so I'm not too worried.
@@jimmeyer939 Why would Toyota do a recall that will cost millions of dollars if there wasn't an issue? Lexus recalled the same engine that is failing, and the big problem is that Toyota doesn't know why. The 24s are going to be recalled next, from what I'm hearing.
These are gonna rot on the lots until Toyota comes out with a remedy that guarantees a fix and like 10 year engine warranties along with them. Let em rot folks, or give super low ball offers lol
3rd Gen Tundras are f'ugly and defect prone. Wouldn't take that truck even if it were free. I will stick with my low mileage certified used 2021 Nightshade...and never sell it!
Toyota has fallen. It’s time to call it out bro. I’ve been a fanboy since 2002 when I got my first 4Runner. Got a 16 tundra and it’s going strong. My dad got a 2024 tundra and he’s already having infotainment and gas metering issues.
I think all auto manufacturers, scratch that, all industries have fallen in quality. They dont make them like they used to. In this case though, govt emissions will continue to choke out reliability for a “clean future”. Unless a massive change happens, this is what we have now. My hope, is that a company like Toyota can navigate their way through these dark waters, and give us the best product possible. If anyone can do it, my money is on them. Stand by.
Toyota, as well as other manufacturers have priced their customers out of the market. Add engine issues top of that and the result is dealerships full of trucks that don’t sell. I owned two Tundras and Toyotas refusal to compete in the HD market forced me to leave the brand behind. I won’t be coming back.
Would not buy one now. Be afraid their is a engine flaw they are not telling us about. No wonder so many on lot. Nobody wants one after the recall and the high prices. They will probably put an extended warranty on the engine and only fix the ones that give trouble like they did on the Camry's in 07, 08, 09 for burning oil. Toyota has a big mess on their hands with the Tundra's now. Why would anybody buy one with this outstanding issue and no fix. Who wants to buy one when they have to rip the engine into pieces to put in a short block that may or not fit it. They should completely new engines in them (crate engines) instead of taking the short cut of a short block. Bring back the 5.7 V8
I've been a subscriber to tundradude for 8 years, and in fact own a 2016 Tundra limited crewmax all that time. Been a huge fan of the Tundra until the 2022 aborted fetus of a truck came out. At this point I think Matk is the only person that actually likes these trucks anymore.
Hi Jed! As always, thank you for your long time subscription. There are many new gen Tundra fans i have the pleasure to speak with everyday. The good news for those who dont like it, plenty of 2nd gens for sale around the country, many 21s just coming off lease. Win/win
