Hello again. Can you tell me what the best grits are to use for tumbling. I am aboutbto start tumbling, from Ontario Canada and I want to start tumbling my rocks from Scott Beach. Any advice to what I should buy and from where. Is amazon the best and only place to buy tumbling supplies.?
I buy all my grit from Kingsley North online. It's in the US and you'll have to pay for shipping but its worth it. They sell the best grit. I buy a 40-70 grit Silicon carbide for stage 1. 120 grit Silicon Carbide for stage 2. Then I buy 500 grit Aluminum Oxide stage 3. Then 1200 Grit AO stage 4. Then I use Alumina for polish final stage.
I am slowly getting my lapidary workshop set up now as well. Just have a few more materials I need to get . I have a 12x16 lofted garden shed. I love seeing how others have their space set up. Gives me great ideas for mine. Love your videos.
The 80 grit takes the longest because you are shaping the stone. Same with 220. 80 grit - 280 grit takes about an hour. 600 - 50k takes about 30 minutes or 5 minutes per wheel.
That piece turned out beautifully and your bezel choice was spot on. Thank you for the workshop tour. It's exciting to watch your channel grow and lapidary is such a natural fit for you Jason. Looking forward to your Etsy shop opening (if you're ever able to get stock built up 😉). Have a great weekend and hopefully we'll see you out on the beach with the boys again soon
