In February of 2023 Sam's Hof Brau Restaurant was destroyed by a major fire. The interior was completely destroyed leaving the building an "open shell". The Hof Brau was built in 1959 and became popular not only for it's great food but it's homey old world atmosphere. After the fire many locals came to the site to check out the damage. It had been a big part of so many people's lives in the Arden Arcade area of Sacramento. The first stand alone Tower Record Store was in the same complex just two doors down. In the 1960s and 1970s Sam's would be packed with late night record fans who would stop by after checking out the latest releases at Tower. After the fire the owner intended to restore and reopen the restaurant. They have gone back and forth on what they intended to do. Recently the owner finally admitted that due to his health and the investment needed to rebuild that it was not reopening and the building is up for lease. I doubt that anyone could reopen and recreate anything close to the original atmosphere that Sam's offered.
