@@SortedFoodand both Jamie and Ben seem to be just as fanatical at playing the game as my family and I usually are. According to our former nanny, none of use would go to bed unless we had beaten the others at least once. 😂
Every time this comes up I'm having an internal debate about this rule. On the one hand I think measuring from the center of the mainland on the country is just wrong like in this case with Hawaii, but on the other hand, if that was not the case I would always pick France if I was in doubt 😂
@@goldenghostinca completely dumb example was them guessing Pakistan and Nepal while the correct answer was Yemen and they pretended it's a super close decision. No, it wasn't. Same here. Fiji is obviously a much better answer in every way
I am a Finn who has a Kenyan girlfriend. And we have found out that both our countries have almost the same street food. In Finland we have muikku (vendace), tiny freshwater whitefish that are put in rye flour, deepfried and served with smashed potatoes and sour cream or garlic sauce. In Kenya they have similar tiny fish, which is fished on lake Victoria called omena. It is also deep fried and then served with chili and lemon. I have never had fresh deep fried omena yet, but my girlfriend says they and muikku taste extremely similar deep fried. It would be funny to have both of those in the same episode. Almost the same dish, but from totally different parts of the world. You could probably use the same fish too, which ever is available, because it apparently makes very little difference.😅
As mentioned previously, and on Twitter. Thank you guys and girls of Sorted for keeping me smiling and entertained through one of the hardest periods of my life, right now. I've been in and out of Hospital the last 2 months owing to a huge, almost fatal, infection and am struggling with a recent Type 1 Diabetic diagnosis. (I'm 35, so it has really shaken me up) I'd actually be very interested in you guys doing an episode on a variety of Dietary requirements for those with medical conditions such as Diabetes and maybe some simple tips or dishes/recipes to cook. Keep up the great work everyone! Loving the Antique gadget videos
Glad to hear we're putting a smile on your face, and we really do hope you get better soon with your infection! Thanks also for the video recommendation, i'll pass this onto the team :) Hayley @ Team Sorted
@@SortedFoodfirst of all I hope you are doing well❤️ and second, I think that's a great idea for a series! Like there are so many medical dietary restrictions to choose from!
You served tunnbrödsrulle with, what i Sweden, is called Bostongurka (Boston cucumber). Traditionally it is served with shrimpsallad (a mix of shrimp and mayonnaise). It is very common to eat after a night out when you need fat, carbs and something filling.
I love how your become blind of your own country traditions. When I watched number 3 i was thinking "That looks just like a Tunnbrödsrulle, wonder what seperates the two" until it hit me...
Having Ebbers play against a normal is like beating a puppy with a flaming hockey stick. The only thing holding Ben back is that he'd traveled so much that he can't exactly remember everything. I'd like to see Ben and Kush, or some other chef duke it out, might be a bit more even then.
I’m so happy to see Chef vs Normal battling it out with this guessing game. Also, happy to see the comeback of glasses over blindfold by the Spaff. Happy Sunday to SortedFood HQ and the community!
Bierrock, or as it is known colloquially in Nebraska (USA) a Runza. Used to be a thing served at potlucks or church socials until the restaurant of that name started 1949 in Lincoln, NE.
The Chinese bag reminds me of nacho fries here in the US. Basically just nachos but using French fries instead. There's also some Mediterranean restaurants doing it with fries and shawarma. So delicious
Given Ben guessed denmark, lets throw in the best end of night danish streetfood, the Ribben Sandwich Sesame burgerbun. Two slices of crispy roasted pork belly. Pickles. Pickled red cabbage and some mayo. Cures every hangover
Here's another one from Sweden, Halv Special!(Half Special) Its a regional food from the City of Göteborg. Its a hot dog in a bun, topped with mashed potatoes and shrimp salad. It might exist outside of Göteborg as well but as far as I'm aware, only Göteborgians call it a Halv Special. You can also upgrade it to a Hel Special(Whole Special) where you get 2 hot dogs!
I ate those hot dog mashed potato wraps when I lived in Stockholm on my way home from uni a couple days a week! They sold them at every corner burger and hot dog stand in the city. Great memories! Haven't eaten one of them for 12 years or so!
As a Swede, I love that you had a tunnbrödsrulle but I can’t see it with Bostongurka (a pickle made with chopped up cucumber, red bell pepper and onion). I have always eaten it with räksallad (a mayonnaise shrimp salad, and salad as more of an egg salad that something with lettuce). I can see it with gurksallad (bostongurka mixed with mayonnaise) but maybe that is just where in Sweden I have lived. 😅
I’m from Hawaii and I was so happy to see Huli Huli chicken!!! Growing up my family and I would pick up Huli Huli chicken from a specific parking lot coming home from the beach. So many fond memories around this dish 🥹
seeing you guys talk about bread pakora as a deep fried sandwich was such a fun way to see a snack i know so well but in a completely new way!! love seeing you guys experience what i grew up on, its like watching my friends try indian food ive brought to them
From South Africa - a Kota (bunny chow - no bunnies involved, bread loaf hollowed out and fill with usually curry), also walkie talkies (chicken heads and feet)
I recognised the Swedish dish almost immediately because the late great Anthony Bourdain encountered it (on No Reservations IIRC), every place has their own mutant mystery meat in tube form... and Bourdain said “The finest and best thing I’ve ever had in my life” about that one... and who am I to argue with that?
I dont remember you guys trying tripletas in your Puerto Rico trip but they're the quintessential late night drunk street food. That or cod fritters (bacalaítos) or alcapurrias (a sort of root veg fritter stuffed with minced beef, chicken, or fish). I would LOVE to see the boys eat those :)
You should do Canadian donairs because they’re basically a gyro or doner kebab but the meat on the rotating cone is made of ground beef. They’re topped with tomatoes and onions and wrapped in a pita but the most iconic part of the donair though is the sweet sauce made out of sweetened condensed milk, vinegar and garlic powder. They were invented by a Greek immigrant in Halifax, Nova Scotia in the seventies but now they’re popular coast to coast to coast. Donairs are so popular in Canada that last year there was an online auction for a government surplus donair costume that got over 1700 bids on it, and a winning bid of more than 16,000$.
Great idea! A whole episode just on barbecue- Kansas City style, Texas style, North Carolina vinegar sauce or South Carolina mustard sauce, and so many more besides.
Try Gurame Terbang (Flying Carp) which is a delicacy in Indonesia. Hard fried carp on the bone, called 'Flying' because the fillets are cut open, not cut off, and made to resemble wings. So its fried with the bones exposed and fillets hanging off. Popularly eaten with sambal and rice, obviously. It might scare some people with how it looks.
Please make Cyprus. We have a street food called "koupes". They are done with ground meat or mushrooms (especially during fasting periods). They are very tasty and are done in different sizes. We have small and big ones. With a dash of fresh lemon they are perfect.
Great video boys! It would be great to see you guys go to celebrate the wonder that is the little island of Mauritius. It is such a melting pot of cuisine and none more so than Dahl Puri. A street food like no other
You could do the chili and cinnamon roll combo from the USA. Or you could do a walking taco (small bag of doritos crushed up, taco meat , cheese and your choice of toppings).
UGH I want all of these!!! 😂🙈 I guessed Hawaii for the 2nd one. 🎉 The “not spicy” was a giveaway I feel like. (Not that I’ve had tons of Hawaiian barbecue, but I seem to associate it more with sweet.)
Have you boys never had a MONTE CRISTO SANDWICH before?? OMG you're missing out!!! Ham & Swiss sandwich deep fried in liquid batter (it gets very fluffy drippy and crispy) and served with a side of Raspberry Jelly/Preserves on the side to dip and smear as you eat. SO DELICIOUS 🤤
I know Sorted is about educating and exploring different cultures when it comes to food. However, a dope way of elevating this video concept is recognizing occupied territories and such. For example in this video you guys choose a food item from Hawaii but say it is from the USA and calculate the centroid of USA. However, Hawaii has been occupied by the USA since 1898. That would be a dope way to do activism and spread even more knowledge.
Try a spicy Chilean chorrillana :) Nasty greasy bar food that goes perfectly with a bath of cold beer! or for the fancy juans with some red wine(carmenere/cabernet sauvignon)!
in Israel we got a dish called sabich which is fried eggplants boiled eggs and different other salads ( dependent on the spot) all served in pita bread
On the last one, my American brain (yes, some of us have them) immediately thought that it looked like an Asian take on poutine, perhaps from around Vancouver. It was just a guess.
The hot dog thing reminded me of something i make for a lazy meal, 2 hot dog sausages, raw onion, raw garlic, fresh coriander, salt and mustard wrapped in a warm naan bread.
Tunbrödsrulle is such a Swedish thing! we have strange hotdogs in Denmark but not that crazy! But then again we do have a common burger in the grillbars that need cutlery - bøfsandwich!
A bit of a local, odd one. It s Called "halve Hahn and Mettbrötchen (half rooster)" . It s a small loaf rye breakfast bread, served with a thick slice of cheese (middle aged gouda), fresh thinly sliced onion sprinkled with sweet paprika powder, Butter, Mustard and a small salad or pickled cucumber on the side. for The other half of the breakfast bread butter and minced raw pork are served. It s a local dish from cologne most commonly eaten late in the morning and was a common food for german brewers in the 19 and early 20th centuries. might be one of the dishes, thats easy to locate roughly, but i m not sure the exact origin with germany will be found. Probably belguim, luxembourgh and the netherlands aswell as denmark might work as a wrong lead.
For a real tunnbrödsrulle you should have added some räksallad as well (Shrimp sallad, basically shrimp, dill, creme fraiche, majonaise and some spices)
You could have made the Tunnbrödrulle more extreme by adding gurkmajonäs (cucumber mayo) and räksallad (shripsallad, also with a lot of mayo). It is a nasty mess but some people love it that way
I've got to throw chips mayai from Tanzania in the ring, I had it so many times over there with the Tanzanian almost pink tomato sauce that is so unique and delicious. 🇹🇿
well the tunbrödrulle was from the northen reginions of sweden usala a snack when you went home from the bar/pub kind of drunk. 2 hotdogs mashed potato with shirimshallad
Annddd just ordered a "spice bag" well... box, in Scotland so it's a pizza box full of stuff, usually called a salt and chilly munchy box or something like that, decided on just the 10" box, 12 seemed greedy
Now im craving a bread pakoda..the last time I had it was the set monday snack in the college dinner hall.... almost a year since I graduated.... From having it every monday to going an year without any. Should have appreciated it then
