Wonder how Chelsea would have played with Erling Haaland in their team with those 5 big chances, I mean City scored 4 goals with their 2 big chances haha. (Granted I know two were gifts from Chelsea, which makes it even MORE frustrating!) Only pre-season, learning every game.
Gonna answer the "who were good". Nkunku was not good as a number 9, but when guiu came on and he dropped down he definitely became much better. Mudryk does not work on the right, Hall has looked good no matter where he plays, but yea, he should play midfield. Enzo was alright, Caicedo looked awful, however it is his first preseason game and he's had less than 1 week with us so won't judge on that. Lavia was quite good throughout, Reece was rusty and a little, let's say not as agile as before, maybe trying to avoid injuries and whatnot. Malo Gusto as always looked very assured even on the left however Tosin looked slow, lethargic and just not sharp enough. Levi colwill, on the other hand did look pretty good, however he did have that penalty moment and you could fault him for the Oscar Bobb goal, but I think he performed well. Sanchez wasn't really outstanding and he had that typical miss-placed pass or hospital pass that we're so used to at this point, but he did look better than before and most of his mixed range passes with his feet did find their targets without him looking like a muppet. P.S. The pitch was apparently much "narrower" than normal pitches in Europe, so that is definitely a factor to the performance for both teams as I saw both of them limiting long balls out wide as they were prone to just go out of bounds.
The commentary team kept pointing out the fact that Nkunku is not inherently a CF and he keeps drifting deeper out of position which left us toothless. The Guiu came on for the final minutes and he looks AMAZING!
Mate. Watch the entirety of the game. The difference between the teams was the mistakes at the back. Even the 3rd goal had Gusto lose the ball in our defensive third before City broke. For me, this was a good performance. The lads are starting to grasp what Maresca needs. Lavia is gonna be a BIG player for us this season. Along with Nkunku. But Caicedo and Enzo are definitely not ready. They need more time to understand the system and get up to speed. This game also showed us how paramount good one on one wingers are. When Gusto and Mudryk had the ball wide, they couldn't do anything at all. And play just ended up breaking down. But with Madueke and Sterling running at the fullbacks, we looked very dangerous. And if we get Osimhen or Jackson starts being clinical, we're gonna be a very dangerous team this season.
I like this and agree, madueke and sterling were both great, I've given up on mudryk and gusto will be good for us he is just filling in and will be on the right the first three games for us. I think all goals were caused by mistakes which resulted in immediate counters to goals. However they understand I dont think the execution is there we still suck playing out of the back and caicedo and lavia looked afraid to get the ball out of the back. Defenders were all bad yesterday
And now maresca will be sure that he must pick beetwen lavia -enzo or lavia-caicedo....playing three of them together will crack the structure Caicedo could be not lucky cause technically and visionary he is behlnd two other
@@JeanMombrun-y5o it will definitely come with time and more confidence as well continued instruction from the gaffer. We're moving in the right direction
KDH did not actually play as a left winger. When in possession, Gusto will push all the way up to be the left winger instead of inverting into the midfield, with Caicedo and Lavia being the 2 holding midfielders. When Caicedo came off, Gusto inverts into the midfield, and Sterling played as the left winger. So KDH played in the left halfspace for the whole time he was on the field.
DH was poor. If that's any glimpse of what is expected we'd just have been better using Gallagher instead. But yes preseason etc. I just hope we play players in more natural positions, Gusto isn't a left winger or left back. Just use Chilwell if we do that.
That was some kind of weird formation... I hope it's just the experiments during pre-season and we'll have some stable system setup for the beginning of the season.
Giving up goals and the preseason is fine. What I don’t like is the repeat of last season where everyone’s looking around and everyone else like they don’t know what the F is going on.
Agree though tbf it's a whole new system for most of them. But yeah never looks good that, comes off as lack of effort but sometimes it's just overthinking or confusion. Need to be sorted out.
He had a bad game, but honestly most were bad in this one (wasn't even average for the expected standards). Likes of Disasi, Fofana etc. also don't fill me too much with confidence.
Kalvin Phillips is doing fairly well at CB this preseason. I hope he refinds his form as moving to City has been really detrimental for him too date. It's great to see Guardiola still investing in him and working with him. Wouldn't surprise me if he ends up playing the John Stones role and moving from CB back into midfield and being his backup, as Stones does get injured a lot unfortunately. That might be a way he gets back into the England Squad, after Guehi, Konsa and Braithwaite as England don't have a lot of quality CB's.. I know this is a Chelsea channel but i love football and watching how Guardiola improve and develops his players instead of solely selling and buying like some managers.
This season has all the hallmarks of a total disaster. I still cannot get my head around why these owners thought it was a good idea to get rid of Pochettino and pick a totally unproven manager to replace him. Poch took over a hospital pass, steady the ship, reached a cup final and by the end of the season clearly had Chelsea moving in the right direction with Chelsea only achieving 2 points less than Liverpool in the second half of the season. Keeping Poch and allow him to build on his first season almost guaranteed a top 4 finish next season. Instead this has the great potential to turn into another Graham Potter. Some of the best performing players from last season are being forced out for extremely dubious replacements. It’s not as if Poch’s football was tedious. Chelsea games tended to be incredibly high scoring. But with another season it is not unreasonable to assume Poch could have tightened up the defence and had fewer injuries due to the players understanding his methods more. But they’ve chucked all this progress away for a football style only one manager has ever achieved sustained success playing - Pep. Everyone else has come up short. Chelsea have won the PL & UCL playing a completely different style to Pepball. Why on earth are they risking everything again on trying to copy Man City when the potential for failure is so high? In fact the potential for failure is almost 100%. It is madness.
The sporting directors do not want Poch type football. They want Pep type football. Sadly we Chelsea fans are used to the former and quite like the excitement.
Perfectly said. I've been saying this nonstop and it's just so pathetic and sad to see what Maresca has done to the confidence of our players. Look at them... They are all second-guessing what they're supposed to do! Look at their faces, they don't look happy and they don't look confident... Last year players played to their potential and enjoyed playing football... this year they're underachieving and will continue to do so
Personally wasn't too high on Pochettino, but had come to terms it was better he stayed because this regime won't get anyone better. If the injuries hit like last season then trust me Maresca is gone sooner than later. Though of course I hope we succeed.
The game overall was fine the problem is the mistakes that lead to goals. This is clearly where plays don't know the system yet or don't have the ability for the system... I think the first few games of the season could be painful until EMs syle lands with the players
Agree. And somehow I'm also not confident we've fully solved the defensive transition issue we constantly had last season(which led to us conceding record number of goals). Season can't come late enough.
I'm happy we conceded this much with Sanchez, I hate when people makes decisions with politics. Thank God its friendly because the Manager can now ask himself, is my Goalkeeping coach a saboteur? Why are they pushing Sanchez to me as No. 1 when our last season No. 2 was better then we now have La Liga best GK sitting on our bench too
How's Sanchez at fault for the 4 goals? Granted I don't think he's good enough to be our number one but he's not the reason we conceded 4 goals. You should call out the attackers for not taking most of their chances too if you want to be fair.
Kinda enjoyed the game, apart from the obvious blunders it looked like we progressed a lot. When we broke the press we looked really dangerous. They looked tired which is expected, but for an experimental formation and starting 11 it was pretty good, my only concern is the ability of the central defenders to play out from the back under pressure.
someone told me even on game day the team trains and does like 2 a days or atleast a hard training. I did notice we looked tired by the half which frustrated me.
Man city knew how to brake the Chelsea system. Just clog the middle and null the overload. Chelsea were jammed up since the beginning with no plan b. The coach and the team were outclassed. Let's hope it doesn't continue to happen.
Nkunku needs to be more of a 8 and not the main striker, he does bits when he drops back into space and turns. He usually beats a few players and gets the forward pass on. I think he did well, it’s just an observation from the match
Yan, I watched it all. We were terrible against kids! Always overrun on the wings. Playing three at the back means we are always open. One half decent winger and we’ve had it. Then add that our ability to keep giving hospital balls to each other in an effort to keep the ball is crazy. Club America didn’t press. All others have, man we are so easy to beat. Nkunku is the only positive.
You were not overrun by kids. These kids from Man City will become some of the best in the world in a few years. Man City academy is becoming the La Masia of England. People are in waiting list to buy City academy players.
Also. There was a big of experiments. Some players are being tried in different positions. Take lavia, he played in the advance role before he moved to the centre
Madueke coming on and getting a very good Goal and very good Assist is also a positive. Looks like if a front 4 is played, it has to be Palmer, Madueke, Nkunku, Jackson.
1. We need Chalobah and Ghallager 2. Enzo is so slow 🐌 and doesn't help tracking back 3. Osimhen is a must 4. With Cucu and Palmer, that would be 5 changes to the starting lineup 5. At this point, Sanchez should be benched, he panicks too much, not calm in post
So I d think we need Gallagher he would help with athleticism. I can agree that enzo isn't athletic enough but his skill and creativity is what makes him good, just need to figure out how best to use him in this formation and thats the same with alot of players. Chalobah definitely needs to be reconsidered and I don't think its the talent or skill. I think its a business decision that we can make good profit on him and gallagher if they leave. we love this players but also have to consider reprucussion of violating FFP. we can't afford transfer bans, point penalties and restrictions on squad size, maybe fines but thats it.
The owners seem obsessed with buying and selling players and then having to sell homegrown players to cover some terrible purchases and comply with FFP
Wouldn’t they sell James who is worth the most and has the highest wages? Or maybe colwill who is worth more?? No. They are simply getting rid of average players, Gallagher and chalobah are nothing special, well chalobah is probably better than disasi Atleast
We have to. I actually do trust this manager to deliver as best he can but there’s no way despite huge outlay that we have a team that is nailed on top four. There’s too many better teams than us. Villa Spuds Newcastle before we even get to the top three so unless we get a top striker in we’re going to do well to get sixth
First Half was terrible for us but 2nd half we were better. Starting XI was not balanced. We only had Mudyrk as a winger. All the goals were as a result of errors. We still have a bit of work to do. Despite the many chances missed we are getting there with Maresca system.
Colwill has gotta close the space better when he's one on one down that left side. many times he's been caught out giving too much space to wingers to shoot and score.
Chelsea players from my observation were faultily relax on the ball especially their defence, lacks the electric movements and passes compared to Man City. Chelsea players were also poor in strategic tackling by always letting an angle free for opponent to pass instead of front and back tackle, they all go on same side, poor passes. Chelsea wingers were very poor especially Mudryk not wise enough in his playing style. I don't see him grow in football sense any time soon. Sanchez always very poor playing with his legs. I wonder how Coach Enzo qualified him as his number one goal Keeper..
Can we just go back to what we know? Now I miss Chelsea under Poch. Let's get back to how Chelsea played towards the end of last season. Maresca-ball or Enzo-ball would get Chelsea into serious trouble. Imagine 4 goals from Man city came from errors committed by Chelsea players.
Love this comment! We have fools running this club and Maresca is the worst of all. Watch this fool on the sidelines during the game will ya?....he's lost. Like a young adolescent wondering what he's supposed to do.
Absolute jokes. Not saying both are no good players, but the margin honestly isn't heaven and earth. Gallagher scored and assisted more than BOTH COMBINED last season in league.
Stats will say what they say, but eye test tells me something different. We had a lot of starters playing against a lot of kids. We got overloaded on the wings and made a lot of sloppy mistakes. I’m not gloom and doom. I saw promising things from Maresca ball. BUT some of the same people problems Leicester had are consistently showing up for us. We are also making individual errors just like under Poch. I think once the team adjusts to the system, we will be a decent team; the issue is will we have a similar slow start to last season. Slip ups in the first five minutes killed the game, slip ups in the first month will kill our season.
Only pre season for sure but inability to defend is a massive problem. It was under Poch when we constantly made individual errors and were dreadful in possession. Anything changed ?
I was impressed. Saw a better understanding of the system, and I see the connections being made. So the mistakes were self inflicted. It's preseason. Seeing progress is what I want and players staying fit
We were so much better than city just defensive mistakes Marcesa tried something different today probably to rest sterling and madueke who have played a lot he tried KDH as a false winger he would play out wide but once we got the ball he came inside to the left half space he’s preferred area and gusto got forward making runs from deep with Mudryk doing the same to pin the defensive line we sent many long balls to them and got them isolated with the full back and it worked it’s just that gusto and Mudryk just didn’t have a good game 1v1 but this allowed nkuknu to play the false 9 floating around. (The false nine let the game be a little more compact letting city press more but it would have been negated if gusto and Mudryk were more effective when they received the long balls because then city would be more threatened) Honestly I think if he played Angelo or madueke as the right winger it would have worked way better because it felt like Mudryk didn’t feel as comfortable and it gave him less options playing on the right he either goes down the line and cross or play to nkuknu or play back to the back line he didn’t feel comfortable cutting in and shooting. If chilly played left back that game it would have also been better him making the runs from deep is how we were good last pre season and gusto just got into 1v1 positions from the runs from deep and just didn’t have a good game. Once nkuknu became an eight we were so threatening and sterling and madueke in the 1v1s with guiu stretching the defensive line as well bc it’s the normal system that we are more accustomed to. Tosin should have been pulled off faster he looked tired the whole game and caicedo just needs to play and get used to it bc he’s mistake was not understanding that the cb moves to allow the gk to become the other “cb” and he just played it where Tosin just moved from. I forgot to mention we saw Enzo get foward at take nkuknu’s position when he dropped deep. Sanchez and colwill were playing good balls into the wingers and midfielders James and tosin had some as well. Most of city’s best moments were when we turned the ball over and they were able to run at us or when they broke the press
The two teams we played who were capable of putting together a competent press we shipped 8 goals to. We were poor and I'm getting very tired of making excuses for a Championship level manager.
Christo was good. He definitely came into his own more once Guiu came on and he dropped into the 10. He just didn’t have enough space to make magic when playing as a 9
Not even slightly worried after that performance, I will say it, we were the better team, apart from the Bobb goal, we did 3 hospital passes and the penalty does not get given with VAR. Moi and Enzo clearly lacking game time, Cucu and Palmer still to come in, lots of positives. We played 3-5-2 in the first half with Gusto and Misha as wingbacks, which was weird, but really nice to see Maresca trying different things.
I watched the game live! 4-2 was EXTREMELY FLATTERING! City genuinely could have been 5-0 up at HT. our press was pathetic, players giving the ball away in unforgivable places. We are in big trouble if this is our style in the PL
Possession without progression is suicidal and this young team will make mistakes. Today a lethal striker made them pay. If we keep this style the blue print to beat us will be obvious, press the defenders and force mistakes.
Nkunku as a #9 might work vs some low block teams, but he is definitely best through playing a little deeper. Once Guiu came in, Nkunku looked better. I don't think KDH was really playing winger. I'm pretty sure it was just Gusto playing left wing. Because Caicedo, Lavia, and Enzo all started, we didn't invert a fullback in the first half, so Malo ran the wing in possession, allowing KDH to tuck into his more inside left 10/advances 8 role. Honestly, I didn't hate the idea. And if Caicedo is fitter and has more time to work with the team, it could be a good solution sometimes. Gusto as a left winger is infinitely more appealing than Chilwell. The problem becomes "how do we fit everyone we want to into attack?" Does Palmer bench Noni despite the preseason Noni is having, or does Cole play an advance 8/10 role? And if so, does Enzo sit? Or does KDH? To get the most out of Nkunku, I think he has to be a 10/8 (or maybe LW?) but then do we bench Enzo or KDH to make space there? Raz and Misha at LW could make way for Nkunku out there, but that draws him out of the middle where he thrives (or we lose our width). We've seen different players taking up different positions/filling different roles in EVERY preseason match so far. Which is likely another reason we haven't seen much continuity or growth in our performances. Enzo is still trying to figure out how best to implement his system.
This game honestly was not a surprise if you have seen all our pre season you know teams like city Arsenal , Madrid will definitely find it easy to score way too easy
Osimhen would have finished a few of those chances. It just highlights that we still need a top striker as well as to keep learning the new system. Teams are always vulnerable in the first 2 mins after conceding and looked like we we over concentrating on the new lessons and positioning which made us vulnerable. I expect to lose and drop points until christmas just like last season under Poch as there's a lot of players to learn. Guardiola didn't win in his first season and the players were confused and stressed, hence why new City players typically don't hit the ground running in their first season.
This proves the point that stats are almost a waste of time. The ONLY stat that counts is the score. Who cares about all the rest, except the idiot sporting directors. Drives me mad, this obsession with stats - Chelsea are THE prime example of where stats mean very little.
This looks like a fresh restart to me. Forget about winning a tropy next season. Perhaps in 2 seasons Marescaball might come to full fruition at Chelsea.... - but will it be good enough this season? 4 - 0 down from the outset? We are going to hammered this season unless they learn fast...
And the worst part is we didn't have to restart again....why are we always restarting? This team was ready for top 4 easily this season if Poch had returned.
nkunku struggled as the Number 9... he looked much better in the second half when Guiu came on and nkunku was able to drop deeper, pick up the ball and Run at defenders with a target upfront... sterling and madueke looked better they KDH and mikylo as the wide players and the defense was shoddy AF... The inverted system needs more working on... plus Chelsea looked very sluggish hence city was able to rush them and forced Chelsea into errors that led to the the rapid 1-2 goals in both halves...
Guiu has tons of potential but still nervous in front of goal, lacks experience.A mature striker could have scored those chances Marc had. He should go on loan to a PL team and we should get Osimhen.
I tell you this game should not give you feelings. We used to this back and forth with man city. They respect our game and we were a bit unlucky. We played better than man u.
@solomonkibuchi194 I hear you but I also noticed this when we had a good run of games after January last season Enzo didn't play with Moises so there is something there.
Pressing and forcing errors is a legitimate strategy. That's basically what we did City this past season. Interrupted their game and took advantage. You don't really create chances yourself with that strategy.
There were too many mid fielders in the first half of enzo, and Caceido didn't play much, so they're not used to the system i know Meresca is experimenting though so im not worried
Maresca was experimenting in the game, better now then in actual match. Doubt we will play this system in actual game. Most of their goals came from our mistake, we will improve. Also the pitch was terrible
If you take away a horrific dive by Haaland we'd probably come away thinking it was an ok result. Theres alot of positives but we also clearly have alot of work to do in a short period of time to be ready for the league
of course our wingers will drop back for defensive depth and then Palmer can remain upfront with Guiu because I believe Nkunku has a slightly better defensive work rate so yea he aswell can drop back for defensive depth
Overall the good players were lavia and christo. Tosin was really poor as was mudryk and gusto struggled quite a bit. In general the passing was just too disconnected we would lose possession far too easily. I thought colwill was actually alright , not a good game but was imo our best CB on the night (not saying much) other than Wes but he didn’t play long. Madueke was a game changer when he came on. KDH was fine but looked a bit lost. He was playing LW but Gusto occupied that space a ton and there wasn’t as much of an invert (more so if anyone was inverting it was KDH with Lavia dropping deeper as gusto took up the LW)
Absolutely love your content brother💪🏻👏🏼 thanks for everything you do for us Chelsea fc supporter, love the energy and thanks again for everything sir 💙 Chelseafc for life 🙏🏼💙💙
Chelsea A-team vs City C-team and even if Enzo lands that shot at an empty goal, it still ends 3-4 City. And as I've commented elsewhere, we have Nkunku, Palmer, KDH, Chuk, Lavia, Caicedo, Enzo competing for three spots in the center. And in a year we'll have Paez and Santos as well. We'll be able to use three of that entire list at any one time. Meanwhile 20% of outfield positions are dedicated to Sterling, Madueke, and Mudryk.
Enzo should have scored his goal. City's first goal was not a penalty. We looked sluggish from the beginning. Nkunkwu cannot be our number 9 he needs to be playing directly behind the nine to utilize his full skillset. Madueke was excellent and looked lively. Sterling was great except he didn't run back on defense during a crucial moment but his effectiveness on the other end was phenomenal. Caiceido will integrate perfectly into this system once he gets his legs back under him. Lavia was phenomenal. Maybe we should keep Gallagher. I don't know if Enzo Fernandez's style of play fits us here. He seems to be lazy. Cucurellla will be perfect for our system.
- Players out of position - Our players dont know how to play the ball from the defense,i mean, every team with good striker/wingers that can press you make you commited mistakes . - Im so tired of Mudryk, irrelevant wherever he is. - Reece and Malo inverted wingers pls no more . - 10 goals in 3 games,we dont care is preseason, the shield is over when season start ,and i dont believe they Will not do It again. - Lavia and Noni very good.
The problem is he's so bad no on will buy him. We will struggle to give him away for free. He costs so much money that managers feel obligated to try to fit him into the team even though he's useless.
Yikes: The defense and defensive communication, Mudryk, Sanchez, too many silly mistakes, wasting Nkunku at striker, KDH keeps missing sitters, being linked to more lower tier signings... Likes : Lavia, Noni, sterling when he plays his former clubs.
Colwill isn’t progressing defensively icl, Badiashile is declining, Noni was very impressing, Caicedo had a poor game but that happens rarely, Lavia HAS to start as much as possible, last but not least WE NEED CHALOBAH BACK!
I just don't see us doing anything with Caicedo and Fernandez in the team as a pair or as individuals. There has been nothing from them apart from a halfway line punt. You can count on one hand the amount of good games Fernandez has had. Mudryk is never ever going to do it and yet we still persist and the owners will keep firing and hiring to find someone in the forlorn hope of getting a tune from them. I actually think we'd be better off going in with Lavia and Ugochukwu than Fernandez and Caicedo. They would actually bring something to our midfield . This absolute nonsense with inverted full backs. Stopping one of our best attacking options of James and Gusto is just utter madness. The absolute farce we have with goalkeepers, how many does one club need, how many left footed right sided attackers do you need. When Estavao and Paez arrives, where do they play or is the plan to offload Palmer then. This board make mistake after mistake.
I watched all the game - it was fairly even to be honest outside of the 3 minutes of football where we conceded 4 goals... It was very much a pre-season game and both sides were lethargic and didn't look like they left 2nd gear all game. In the first half, the referee was way out of his depth, dishing out yellows for fun and looking lost out there with both sides looking confused at how he was refereeing the game. The pitch was awful. It was like watching a game in the FA cup where you have to go and play against a non-league sides pitch. Granted that both sides had to play on it! I honestly think it's a big big win that neither side came out of the game without a major injury
Bruh... Why that delulu stuff.. just stay quiet for the next ten games and accept what happens.. after that you can speak with more clarity.. Wow 5 chances against a kids team.. i hope that you know that only goals decide the result.. by the way another game conceding and this time 4...
I am totally fine with this result plan on doing a video on this. The penalty for me was a bad call which means we really lost 3-2 and while it Wasn't Man City's full starting team we played with no Striker an experiment at Left-back and are starting Midfield getting their first minutes together in preseason with all that is contacts losing 32 and out possessing them and creating more chances and totally fine with
All you Maresca lovers, still feel ok about getting rid of Poch? Progressive football you say? We were getting killed 4-0 by Man City's 3rd string players. This style of football is utterly embarrassing. Like what I say or not, this style of football isn't going to work. If it will, he'll have to change the defense...we cant have the LB standing in the box to score, and not being back to defend. He'll also have to be a lot better in picking players...Tosin is complete rubbish, as is Badiashile. Dewsbury Hall isn't good enough, nor is Mudryk . And frankly Enzo Fernandez can't play in this team... Playing him at number 10 means you're playing Nkunku out of position otherwise. We were killing it with POCH...so sad to see this shit show
1. Stupid penalty to give away. 2. Bad passing mistake let Haaland in again. 3. Sanchez really poor getting beat like that at the near post. 4. Piss-poor marking again for Haaland's 3rd. And that was a City team full of kids, not seasoned regulars. It seems Chilwell is going to be gone this summer. He's had to sit and watch Gusto start at LB the last 2 games and didn't even get on at all in this game.
