Her voice, her cadence, the palpible mood heavy with pathos, it's all unlike any sound I've ever heard, there's something to be said about a triple-threat songwriter, composer, and vocalist who literally transforms your perception of the world. This song is really a journey.
I absolutely love this particular recording of Half sleeper. It’s so honest, eerie and thought provoking . Chelsea can somehow make the violence of a car accident beautiful in an unnerving way. I love the gentle, yet complete absence of safety here that isn’t lost in a sea of voices which makes this recording more personal. I hope this version ends up on an album some day because it is amazing.
That would suggest a deep and poignant depression in you. The beautiful music was able to poke at whatever is wrong and bring you some form of catharsis. Whatever is wrong, may you be healed as soon as today 🤘🏾
I wish artists like Chelsea Wolfe were played on the radio and celebrated for their talent rather than the fake plastic frauds of the pop industry that are only famous for looks and catchy songs that they didn't write and that don't mean anything. I wish Chelsea all the best and hope she gets more attention for the sake of her music reaching more people.
WE’RE SPREAD ACROSS THE OPEN ROAD AND WE’RE SPREAD ACROSS THE ASPHALT ON THE OPEN ROAD AND WE’RE STREAMING IN THE WIND LIKE CASSETTE TAPE OR JELLYFISH LONG DARK VEINS AND RECORDS PLAYING MEMORIES fuck yea! that's how you write lyrics and execute divine melody. I'm STRUCK. Music for the heart and soul.
I was raised in church, once I was free to live on my own, I got rid of all of the religious chains. But Chelsea makes me question my belief of angels.
Lyrics for those who might be interested. All the parts of me that lived inside Are drowning in the sea of waking life They don't know their colors don't belong on the outside They don't know their colors don't belong Til they're spread across the open road Til they're spread across the asphalt on the open road Til they're streaming in the wind like cassette tape or jellyfish Long dark veins and records playing memories All the things we yell don't mean a thing When we're spinning out of darkened meadow wind When we're flying like we're Mary's angels through the shattered glass When we find that tall dark shadow waiting there with outstretched hands He has given me a dress of red and you a skin of gray We'll be twisting here for hours 'til the light will bring us day And we're spread across the open road And we're spread across the asphalt on the open road And we're streaming in the wind like cassette tape or jellyfish Long dark veins and records playing memories
This is such beautiful song and the lyrics manage to sound poetically beautiful as well even though, to me at least, it seems like its clearly about a car crash and the first two blocks are entirely about the details of being eviscerated and dying, followed by a regretful explanation that the cause of the crash was an argument between lovers. It's unexpectedly very dark and rightfully depressing.
Keep coming back to this wonder of a song. Really, it is more than just a song. It speaks like a bursting flower that cannot wait for the Sun’s warmth. It must be felt from within. This is lonely passion entombed in melody and lyric. Chelsea bears her soul. Thank you. ⛅️🗝🤍
She is such an accomplished artist. i do hope that her life brings her as much fullfillness as her music brings me when I listen to it. What a load of emotions she can unravell... Thumbs and heart way up
I love how she picks the guitar at the end of this. I think she was muting the string semi-accidentally at first, but she decided to ride it through to the end. It gave the ending this extra tension and edge that fit the song so perfectly! By the last few chords it was like she was pissed off at the guitar. What an incredible song.
I'm not sure... Every once in awhile little things can happen with guitar that might not be 100 percent on purpose to begin with- But they sound cool so you ride it out. I might be reading it totally wrong, but it really feels like one of those moments where something got a little clunky but instead of hiding from it she strummed even more aggressively and it was like a little F you moment to her own mistake. I think I like the story better that way even if it isn't true. haha.
It surprised me the first time I heard it only because I don’t think I had heard something like this before and I then thought it was intentional, but as a long-time musician who knows a lot of career musicians, it’s just as likely you are correct, and if so, it’s a sign of a whole lot of experience playing live, contrary to what one might think.
Please don't be gone , this video helped me so many times that I've a depression and so many years I came back here, I still amazing and stunning her voice and her guitar, why this is so magical , god I love you.
Her voice is so powerful, but watching the actual video, she looks so fragile. Almost like Cobain at Unplugged. I just wanna grab her and give her the biggest hug ever
I completely agree. She looks like a weight is pushing her down and that she is not completely present during the video as if she were looking somewhere past everything in the room with her.
All the parts of me that lived inside Are drowning in the sea of waking life They don't know their colors don't belong on the outside They don't know their colors don't belong Until they're spread across the open road Til they're spread across the asphalt on the open road Til they're streaming in the wind like cassette tape or jellyfish Long dark veins and records playing memories All the things we yelled don't mean a thing When we're spinning out on dark and metal wind When we're flying like blue mary's angels through shattered glass When we find the tall black shadow waiting there with outstretched hands He has given me a dress of red and you a skin of gray We'll be twisting here for hours til the light will give us day We're spread across the open road And we're spread across the asphalt on the open road And we're streaming in the wind like cassette tape or jellyfish Long dark veins and records playing memories
Her Flagship! I keep coming back. But it is painful at the same time. Probably the best natural voice out there. I cry a bit every time. This time too.. dammit!
This woman just captures you in her music like not many artists can do these days.....one of the most purely beautiful and talented women in the music industry today
She sings this song so phenomenally in this video. It comes in waves of emotion and energy. Just gets me, almost makes me cry. Great lyrics. And she is so gorgeous is an artsy way.
