This song got me through a time in my life as I played it over and over leaving town. My story ends differently… He missed me, things changed and we’ve been happily married 30 years now. But today, I’m sending it to a young lady that needs to shut up and drive away ASAP… Godspeed to her and whatever God last in front of her, I just hope she stops where God leads her to stop and hunker down not where she wants to be, not where her mind or heart tells her to stop unless she has NO RESERVATIONS and her feelings are validated with proof 🙏🏼
This song basically saved my life 20 years ago when I ran away from a physically abusive marriage. I bought the single on cassette and listened to it whenever I doubted myself and the terrifying choices I had to make to get free. I wore that thing out and I'm happy to say that I've lived a happy, empowered life since. Thank you, Chely Wright. You changed this woman's life.
We should NOT judge people by who they love....rather, judge them by what they do in this world! Chely Wright is a beautiful, talented country singer. She was before she came out, she is now. Nothing about her music has changed. This video is the same now as it was when I saw it ten years ago. Chely, just keep on giving us great country music, and we'll keep loving you for it!
The problem with this is that she moved to New York and started pushing her agenda contrary to God's plans for the happiness of his children. It is one thing for her to do what she wants in the privacy of her private life, but to publicly promote a debased lifestyle to others people children is assertively bad. Now we see where that got us as a society and it isn't good at all.
This song saved my kid's and my life from a drunk and drug addict we were at the restaurant having pizza he drank a picture of beer and when we left we pulled over so he could take a whiz and I remembered the song and I looked in the mirror I mean I just drove away and I looked in the mirror and he's that song saved Our Lives and maybe me from having to go to jail or whatever and I thank God and Jesus and Catholic so Jesus and God are one but the song really really saved my life my daughter bought it for me for Christmas that year and that's when I took her to the song and I drove away that night and left them.
Let’s just say if she’s Catholic, then the Catholic Church consider her for Saint Hood because the lives she has she’s clearly saved with this song. I’m glad you got out of that relationship I made a clean break. The comments on this video seem to be lit with people at yourself who escaped abusive relationship with this song given the soundtrack to get out while they still could she’s got some good karma coming her way. It’s a song which gives you a big hug and says you’re going to be okay.
This song changed my life when I was 20 years old, I am now 36! lol wow time flies. I almost turned the car around and went back to Virginia Beach chasing who I thought was the love of my life, this song came on in the middle of a U-turn!! I walked away from an abusive family 5 years ago...for the first week after I left, I listened to this song about 200 times, it does get easier, but I still wish it hadn't taken me that long to realize it. I can wake up, look in the mirror and actually smile.

Chely Wright is and will always be a spectacular entertainer. I haven't had my chance in the spotlight but I am a not so pro country entertainer myself and I have been out of the closet since I was 15 years old and I have never been judged by anyone in the business or any of my fans. Chely is one of the best country music singers ever. She has the voice of an angle. I just love and adore her. My all time favorite song ever. I can remember exactly when I first heard this. It nailed me in place before even a chord was done. I've been slow to country as I grew up more with Elvis, pop (50's & 60's), Beatles and such. But, at the time, country could and would cross over [hell, they all intermingled and we weren't paying attention, or actually, couldn't care less as long as it was good]. And this was just the fucking ultimate country opening. It is just surprising that it took so long to get here :)

i love this song. i cant see why anyone would dislike this song...chely wright was one of the reasons i loved my childhood and this beautiful song is one of the biggest reasons i still listen to country music.

Put a 'wo' in front of man and change him to her and that was what kept me from leaving my first marriage until a lot later than I should have. I wanted her to be as beautiful a soul as she was physically, not the mind game-playing, psychologically abusive paranoiac she was. No song sums it all up better, or is more cathartic about it all, than this.
