it is a good lesson. every force is going in two opposite directions. if you want to emit power in one direction, you need the stability in the other direction. this is exactly the explanation here. you have to understand the symmetry of your body. if you punch with your arm/fist, you need to create the stability on the opposite end which is the leg/foot. the dantien is connecting this opposite parts of the body. it is the center. so where is the starting point of the movement? it is the center where a kind of pressure wave is emitted symetricly in opposite directions. on one side the pressure wave is going through the arm into the fist, hitting theopponent. on the other side the pressure wave is going through the leg to the foot. the foot can't move through the ground. the ground gives the rooting and does not move. so, at the end there is an expansion between the ground and the hand. so, the force is rooted into the ground with no give. that means the emmited force is only going out of the fist with the stable rooting of the back leg. it is not difficult to understand the theory. but after understandig it, it still needs time and practice to get the coordination right.

Wonder if his punch will work with that stance and posture in a real situation, static vs. fluid
@trym2121
@trym2121 Год назад
In this particular training context, no. Do that and that's a telegraphing punch. Pretty much asking for a beating already It's only usable in real life after tons of training. When the practitioner can do it without going low or wide. Just normal stance like standing, distance between two feet is around shoulder width or tiny bit wider. Using the video terminology, when the dang jin is stable in very high stance whilst being connected to your dantian jin and the upperbody jin perfectly

I have done it. The thing is, you need to be on the flank. Think of it more of a liver punch in boxing. Has the same results, and you dont even feel that you put any power into it.

CXW's power is so high, he wouldn't even visibly move if he was acting in a real situation. The punch was to demonstrate the technique to people, esp very inexperienced students. 40 years ago he was training the Chinese army's elite troops in unarmed combat. CXW is very much an all round "real deal".

It is a pity that a lot of Chinese kungfu practitioners possess only the art, and not the martial part of the skill. They know the technique, they can execute the technique theoretically, but they never reach the practical level of the technique. Nor, they have enough physical condition and the experience to fight with the technique in a real combat. That's why there are so many Kungfu practitioners get humiliated by Xu Xiandong. In my eyes, those kungfu masters was beaten not because they have inferior kungfu technique. But because they don't have enough physical condition nor experience to stand against Xu. Basically they just a theorist, and amateur, whose body doesn't possess the endurance and strength to match a martial art athlete like Xu Xiandong. For an amateur like them, they shouldn't stand against Xu for their first fight. But amateur MMA students who don't possess the athlete physic like Xu.

as i understand it he tries to explain that his force is coming only from his shoulders. the punch is then limited by the accelerated mass of his shoulder. it is not connected to the upper body and the upper body is not connected to the lower body. and that is not connected to the feet. he started the movement in the shoulder. but the correct way is to start the movement in the center of your body. it is a kind of pressure wave that starts in the center. it moves the hips and shoulders at the same time. and this is the problem here. he moves the shoulders but not the hips. they should be connected. and then of course it needs the right understanding of the connection down to the knee and to the feet. and here we have the typical problem that the hips are very tight because he is not used to this low stance. his muscles practically cramp everything together and he loses the flexibility and also the feeling in his legs and hips. this is why the grandmaster told him to go a bit higher because he cramps/locks up in that low position. the grandmaster then took his arms to pull on one arm and push the other arm to create the feeling of symmetry and for the student a feeling in the straight spine being the axis that rotates. of course the shoulders and hips should move the same to not get the spine twisted. this kind of understanding is very important. if you understand that the muscles around the hips are on the limit of their strength and endurance, you then unterstand that it is of highest priority to train them somehow. to get your legs super strong and flexible and your body feels light as a feather. then you get in control of your body. this is why in the training of GM CXW the key is standing pole training and chan si gong. the standing pole training lets your muscle strength and endurance grow. and this was the hardest training for me. two time in my life i made it up to almost one hour. one time when i trained with him at exactly the same spot like you see in the video and one time when i trained alone on a vacation in thailand. i got a certain degree of strength but not to a point where i should be. for that, 100 days of training is needed. but because of being over weight, i also had issues with the knees starting to hurt. then, chan si gong training is the training of the whole movement to get an understanding of the three connections and symmetry: * connection of shoulders and hips * connection of elbows and knees * connection of hand and feet. there is no way around training and more training and more training to get the strength, flexibility and coordination to master this.

Yeah Tyson's lower body power is v impressive, or was in the early days. But his punch is more momentum and compression. CXW has far less movement, due to the training and the reality of street defence. BTW Tyson and D'Amato were huge Chinese m art fans and studied it too.
