From what cher new he was doing drugs and didn't know where he was. He shows up in court clean for 3 months which is great but still not even close to stable. He probably found out what cher was doing so he probably got help so he wouldn't lose control of his life. Hopefully it sticks and the thought of losing control of his money is enough for him to stay sober but he still has a long road. Maybe this scare was a good thing.

@@Ken-s6vCher was the one that put him in the « health center » in Mexico, where he was held against his will. She filed for the conservatorship when he was trapped there so he could not show up. His wife had to work with the mexican and american embassy to get him out. He managed to be there on time for his hearing. They filed only for the conservatorship control of his money, not his person. It is 100% about money and control.

Also, Cher has a lot of assistants, advisors, lawyers, managers around her who might have been working her up to divert as much money to her ‘brand’ as possible and away from successors.

I disagree. just because you are a mother DOES NOT mean you are entitled to control their finances. I am familiar with this case and Cher isBS in this specific case. especially since she ONLY wants to help his finances and not health decisions. Cher claims he is incapable of hiring his own legal representation. I read those docs and BTW he did hire his own lawyer. Her son doesn't want Cher to be involved period. That deserves more respect than some mother who thinks she deserves to control adult children. Addiction isn't illegal

Exactly. There was an understanding of once an addict always an addict. There is always a risk one may succumb and start using again, so recovering, not cured is a more appropriate term. Even addicts who have been drug free for twenty years can succumb, often with fatal consequences. Recovery is an ongoing daily battle that will last decades. I gave up smoking cigarettes decades ago but occasionally I even dream about it or feel tempted. I avoid old friends that still smoke. Addiction issues are something that require a hell of a lot more effort than others realise. Like you I am extremely unlikely to fall for addiction again, but I won’t ever be flippant enough to say cured. When I first gave up and others were noticing I didn’t tell them I had quit but just cutting down, as I found the discussions unsettling. Well done you for keeping the beastie at bay; I hear you.

I heard that part of the reason for the 'intervention' at the hotel was to keep him from reconciling with his wife. Cher seems to think the wife is part of the problem. Maybe the wife is also a drug user or she enables him or she's just interested in the $10,000 a month.

@@2212k at three months sober, honestly, my lack of decision making skills and general state of confusion rendered me ripe for some assistance. I would have been thrilled to be offered the help. It wouldn’t have had to be forced on me by a court order. Every situation is unique. What’s right or necessary for one family is not for everyone. I make no judgment on Cher or her son. That’s for them to work out as a family as necessary. It’s none of my business.

If I'm a 47 year old addict, I have that right to be unless you are a danger to your self or someone else, nobody has the right to interfere, the parents are probably the reason behind the addiction

There are indications of her being a garbage mother, she send her son to a boarding school when he was 8. Her oldest child is transgender, which means that this child damaged his physical health, but Cher supported it. Cher did not try to convince her oldest not to do the transition.

The court can't force an adult into rehab unless they're already in the court system, so Elijah would have to have been arrested for a crime or detained on a wellness hold, and then deferred to either mental health court or drug court for a judge to order him to go to any kind of treatment. As it is the court has been presented no evidence he is a danger to himself, others or that he poses a risk to society so the judge can't just send him to rehab because his mom says he's a drug addict squandering his trust fund.

When your loved one is destroying themselves after you have tried many resources and the person still does not want to change, as a family member you are willing to do anything it takes to protect their personal financial assets. Cher might be trying to do that to ensure he does not end up living under a freeway (the streets) when she is gone. This is all she can do at this point as a mother.

Now that she's elderly and her career has winded down, she suddenly has time for her child. But he's not a child anymore, he's a grown man who doesn't want anything to do with her. She doesn't want to accept that, so she's trying to FORCE a connection through legal means. The fact is, his life is his own. His life is his own to do with what he chooses, even if those choices are objectively bad ones, they are still his to make. Keeping him under lock and key at nearly 50 years old is a terrible idea. It will only make him feel esmasculated and resentful He has to WANT sobriety and be willing to do the work out of his own free will- that's the only way his sobriety will be real and lasting... If Cher wants a pet to put in a cage, she should go get a rabbit or something.

If the court rules you need someone to handle your daily affairs, you can be put in a conservator ship. For example, if you had a child with Down’s Syndrome, someone will have to care for that child until they die. Most of the time the parents have the conservatorship. But if they die, then someone needs to step in. This is one example,of when a corporation that specializes in this takes over the daily affairs for the person. I will use another example of how things can go wrong. My mother-in-law allowed a cousin in finance to handle the grandmother’s estate assets that was to pay for a grandson’s and great grandchild’s education and college. That cousin took out so much money a month for their fee that only two year’s of private school was paid for. The grandson got nothing because he was trying to figure out what he was going to do with his life and by time he was ready to go back to college, the money was gone. That is the danger of allowing a relative to take charge. Britney Spears is the best example of a conservatorship gone wrong.

And selfish people view their children as things to be used for their benefit. He's a 47 year old man that's not in the gutter shooting up. Even if he was parents don't make the best option for guardianship, generally speaking because they are emotionally involved and they are usually the ones who caused the childhood wounds that perpetuated the person's issues in the first place. Those situations can become even more toxic and do more harm to the individual and their relationship. I don't know if California has a state guardianship program but they tend to be monitored very well with strict guidelines for them to make sure the person's money only gets used for them. But if he can feed himself, pay his bills, and get to the doctor when needed she doesn't have a case. He's competent. It's that simple.

I pray your daughter can find recovery and get off the methadone. It’s supposed to help heroin addicts quit. But, it just another drug, that destroys the bones. I’ve had friends that have been using it for decades. When initially the doctor told them it would only be for a few weeks. Now, they’re totally dependent on it. One of my friends when through a horrible sickness, detoxing from it on her own. Now, she’s been clean 24 years this April. I’m proud of her.

If it were my loved one, I'd get then to a ayahuasca retreat. You should also look into eye movement desensitization therapy (emdr). It's been very successful in treating both ptsd and addiction.
