Back in the day I was in Charlie Parkers in Glasgow one night and they played this track. It was on vinyl and I got hooked. Found the lp, bought it, and I still have it so many years on.
This is amazing because it is so different from the original, yet it has a freshness and vigor of its own that makes it equally as good. I just love the way everyone is enjoying themselves as the band, singers and audience appreciate a great time through music. I would have loved to have been there when you did this performance. Wow, what a treat!
WOW! Everybody shines in this song, from the vocals; to the rhythm section. But who steals the show for me are the STRINGS!! GOOD LORD! They really came through on this performance.
Brilliant! The original DBOSB version is brilliant, and this version is equally brilliant! Two different ideas about how to interpret this piece -- both absolutely fab in its own unique and special way. Who says you can't award two gold medals for the same event? Danny, if you and the orchestra ever tour North America, and can come up to Toronto, folks here will love you.
OMG... What an amazing rendition.. Brings back some many wonderful memories. A snapshot of 1976.. Those that lived through that era will understand.. Those who didn't, you have just had a taste of what an awesome time you missed out on....... I was 12 at the time, trying to be coordinated on the dance floor at the under aged Disco (failed) and doing my best to impress the ladies (double failed). It was a time of whimsy, tacky aftershave (wasn't yet shaving but used by Dad's Old Spice anyway) and trying to look cool in my Dad's old suit he got married in (again failing miserably). It started me on a lifetime of enjoyment of Disco, style and, quite frankly, not giving a shit as long as the Bass rocked, the Music was Loud and the night left me looking forward to the Following Friday night. Thank You Mr Stony Browder Jr for writing a song that kicks of the Soundtrack to my Life and to your your brother August who went on to to give me so much enjoyment as Kid Creole..
This is a big ass production. Full orchestra, 5 background singers, full horns. I would like to see August's opinion of this. I wish I could arrange on this level.
Oh, great! Really great. The role fits her perfectly, sooo well! Definitely better than Miss Estefan's . Bravo to her and all the other guys. And I mean, ALL of them. Ciao from Italy.
Pennsylvania girl says "Bravo"!!! Holy Moly!!! I want to hear this ....strings and all! Wow! Dr. Buzzards Original Savanahh Band! In My Dreams: Cory Daye would do this with her original band, in a theatre with exceptional acoustics. Always was a huge favorite of mine, this song....but this album had many others on it....I have the CD. This is a big treat.
Something about this song it has everything of course the original is the best but this group here does a great job it almost brings all the cultures together to create one great song when you hear music like this and you realize that music is a gift and is to be cherished and shared
That is the genius of this composition. It carries the feel of Gershwin's classic and mixes it with updated sounds and arrangement. I so wish they could have made more gems like this. The Dr. Buzzard band was so creative and awesome.
agree terrific rendition, but will always love Cory Daye singing with Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band in the 70's, bought it in vinyl, bought the CD!
Wow, Espectacular, me sorprendieron, pensé que era instrumental, hasta que a mitad de la canción la cantante empieza a cantar, Fabuloso!!!!... es una de mis canciones favoritas
I love that the audience prob heard this the first time around in 1976 and were dancing the Bump to this, or at least thats what the big kids were doing besides the Hustle
oh wow that is a lush arrangement. Brushes on cowbell, sublime. Incredible mix, and can anyone identify the source? French polynesia? Gorgeous and respectful. Thank you
Lol I know I'm a li' late commenting in 2019 I discovered this upload by luck really, but this awesome rendition band was nothing short of spectacular hands down. I wish I was there dancing not sitting, they brought the roof down that day.✊
Updated: BEST VERSION! I originally was looking for the version I grew up with: the one from the 1970s by DOCTOR BUZZARD SAVANNAH BAND, but when searching for that on youtube, THIS version popped up too. After watching and listening to this version by MALANDONL , I now prefer THIS version over the 1970s version by DR BUZZARD SAVANNAH BAND.
Does anyone know where this took place? What an amazing venue for this incredible band. I love, love, love them. This song is so upbeat. It puts me in a great mood every time I hear it.
