Geraldine Hunt is Cheri's mother. Geraldine is also the mother of Freddie "Get Up And Boogie/Hollywood" James . All 3 of them scored big hits on Billboard's Dance/Disco charts. A very rare achievement. Mom, daughter and son all scoring hits on the dance chart.
They weren’t the only ones. Alan and Kirsty Hawkshaw both reached number one on Billboard’s Dance chart, Father Alan as part of Love Deluxe with “Here Comes That Sound” in 1979 and daughter Kirsty as part of Opus III with “It’s a Fine Day” in 1992 and “When You Made The Mountain” in 1994. In 2016 both mother Olivia Newton John and daughter Chloe Lattanzi reached number one on Billboard’s Dance Club Songs as the featured vocalists on Dave Aude’s “You Gotta Believe.”
Post disco eighties funk. Tuff beat.I heard this on KJLH radio. It fit right in on my mixed tape with confunkshun, lakeside junior lilo Thomas and the GAP band,(to name a few). That music was thumpin!❤
I remember this song back in my Junior High School Days. I remember my friends and I used to sing this song and other songs in 7th period. We sat in the back of the classroom singing, thinking we were so cool!
let it also be noted that before Cheri became a duo, Rosalind (Cheri) and Freddie sang lead vocals on Murphy's Law. Give It To Me Baby is a slept on classic! -NickFRESH
I’m glad I found this song..but I’m thinking back on a sad occasion of my grandfathers passing this song was out then..and I can remember at the repast at the house I can remember my little first cousin about 5 years of age then breaking out singing this song anyway we were all laughing at this and it lighten up the mood😂
Just thinking of this classic , I wonder if they ever had a SOUL TRAIN LINE DANCE SEGMENT FOR THIS SONG....I THINK THEY DID....MEMORIES...I WAS age 10 When this song came out. I always used to hear it on both 98.7 kiss and 107.5 wbls fm, was at that time.........
Unfortunately, Cheri wasn't ever played on Soul Train. (though, Rosalind's mom Geraldine Hunt did appear in '80 for "Can't Fake The Feeling".) I wish they were though. Give It To Me Baby sounds like it was MADE for Soul Train.
Took a minute to grow on me, but am really digging it now! At first it felt like there was a good tune hidden in 80s crap, but once i get over my first annoyance, i got hooked!
Correct. Larry Levan used to kill this. It sounded amazing in there. Every time hear it I can see and feel the Garage. Larry played a lot of what they call "electro" and these not so known "boogie" tunes like Change by Tanya Love...Chazz's Dancin' Shoes.
OMG ! Back in the early 80's at the clubs in Greenville, SC ! Me & the beautiful fly honey's ! With my Jeri curl, lizard skin shoes, slim and trim ! We made it do what it do ! Fresh out of college ! Life was Great ! GIVE IT TO ME BABY! 💋
I had to dance in a disco during new years eve, but on my phones was this blasting song, and all were wondering I was dancing locking and popping....damn future society funk lasts forever
I've been watching you, baby, ever since you walked through that door, my body temperature is rising, can you see my eyes begging for more? the way that you move your body put my head into a whirl i wanna reach out and touch ya' this is something that you never heard
I know this is definitely Disco, I just can't place the time period/sub genre of disco. I want to say it's electro boogie/funk but it's also kinda post-disco and mid to late 80s in production style. any thoughts anyone? I'd love a second opinion
This tune came out in the summer of '82. Disco came to an abrupt end in 1980, so if you just have to attach a category to it, I suppose you could call post disco. Excellent dance tune. I never cared much for "Murphy's Law", but "Working Girl" was another standout tune from Cheri.
Would have been nice but . . . lol this was made when people used to go out and skate and dance, instead of watching OTHERS live and have fun, real people used to dance to REAL MUSIC and have REAL FUN.
