Yeah when I watched the series I was surprised by the accuracy of events as well as the production value (set, costume, effects, performances, etc…)

That was an AWESOME series!!

Truly great series. Even at 10 years old 1986 I was fascinated by Chernobyl, terrified by the spectre of nuclear war, etc. so the series was right up my alley. Ended up buying it.

Chernobyl is a JFK moment for me. I remember exactly where I was when I heard about it. I was attending my undergrad class on Scandinavian history. The professor was from Finland and you could hear the fear in her voice when she told us what happened.

It is, I live in Eden NC the small city you see to the right of the power plant at 29:54 luckily our water treatment/filtration plant (the small sliver of white between the city and power plant) is above the power plant on the river but affected Danville Virginia quite a bit, What so sad is the plant doesnt even use coal anymore it was switched to natural gas a year before but all this mess is left for the community to deal with for decades to come...

You're being a bit dramatic. Nuclear power is great. Nuclear energy is the safest form of electricity we have. Just need to modernize the old plants and voila!

At the time I was 6 months pregnant and was living in Hawaii, and I was told by my mother and husband to keep the windows shut and don't go out. Then after several hours we were told it was ok to go out, but that was still scary, more for my baby than anything else.

They found out about Chernobyl around the world when radiation spikes happened in local waters and fish, so I can guarantee in some form it reached CA pretty quickly.

It never got anywhere near CA. The rain brought down most of the radioactive dust. It didn't even get as far as Ireland.

@@DiZoSoMom No they did NOT. You or someone else is making that up ! What happened actually was that a nuclear power plant in Sweden detected the radioactive dust being blown in its direction. You can find maps online of where the radiation ended up, ALL in Europe, mainly the result of rain bringing the dust down. NONE ever found its way across the Atlantic, not even as far as Ireland in fact.

I don't know what tthey have actually done; but I get charged every month by Dominion Virginia Electric for what I believe to have been their careless and/or corrupt acts to dump coal ash in places, including unlined ponds. I, too, am a Danville VA native and saw the dye in the Dan River decades ago. However, the environmental laws changed over time and Dan River Mills stopped polluting the river. I have seen so many birds, fish, and other wildlife come back to river in the last 20 to 30 years. The coal ash spill with it's heavy metals and poisonous contents, should have been prevented! Duke power has no excuse, they knew the situation was not safe; the pipe was too old and the pit too close to the Dan River. The safety of humans and animals along the river was jeopardized because Duke energy cares about making money above all else.

You know that science can target the part of the brain that experiences an NDE/OBE experience, don't you? It's okay. Most people confuse their ego as an immortal eternal spirit or soul. The water isnt dangerous. Theres more sugar in a 12oz can of soda than there is radioactive material in all the water combined. And tritium (the concern) is naturally occurring so it was already in the ocean anyway.

And the only kind of nuclear reactor that should EVER be built, ever again, should liquid- fueled, THORIUM- salt nuclear power plants! They physically canNOT over-heat and melt down, like these U235 messes do! The radioactive half- life of the fuel is also much, much SHORTER, and thorium plants can be used to 'burn up' and thus DISPOSE of the SPENT fuel FROM all of the OLD U235 reactors!😮😅

@@morvieous Starts cooling immediately upon hitting concrete, earth, water etc and turns into a mass they call an 'elephant's foot'. We haven't seen the extent of the Fukushima Elephant's Foot, but in Chernobyl the mass was photographed and after cleaned up at Three Mile Island it was found it only penetrated a total of 15mm into the bottom of the containment vessel.

Search for spent fuel rods. Large pools are required of which are steaming hot. Takes years for these rods to dissipate and able to be moved to “dry” storage. The high expenses of these pools and then the storage ... is forever.
