Primer to finish paint and weathering tutorial on a heavily rusted, abandoned Gaz 66 truck. Painted and weathering using only acrylic paints and wet-on-wet blending techniques.
Beautiful work! On the subject of the tires: I don't think the small gaps between the rubber and rims hurt the effect. Quite the opposite actually. Big trucks like these don't actually have an inner tube in the tires, so the rubber is held on using the pressure of the tires. When tires like this deflate and that pressure is no longer there, they come loose from the rim. Add some age into the mix and you often see these gaps appear, especially around the top half of the rims.
Actually the large trucks I worked with did have inner tubes and gators (a thick rubber ring), the assembly was held on the hub with a split ring. On deflation the seal between the hub and the tyre would look just as you have depicted it in the model.
i dont mean to be off topic but does someone know of a method to log back into an instagram account? I was dumb forgot my password. I appreciate any tricks you can offer me!
I love how these instructions are given so nonchalantly for you! I can never get results like this no matter how hard I try. This thing is like museum quality weathering. I’m so impressed by this job I’m saving your video for future reference. Bravo my friend!
Well thanks, its easy to be nonchalant when doing the voice overs lol the hard bit is already done. I'm pretty sure there was plenty of swearing and holding my breath along the way, especially in all acrylics which can't be wiped off with a bit of thinner. I'm not a pro I'm just a guy who makes free videos so don't be daunted just have a go and you'll see it's easier than you think
Dave Lloyd it was a challenge but the wet on wet technique is now one of my favourite methods. I had hoped there would be acrylic fans who enjoyed this one so thanks for commenting
One of your best Jon really beautifully put together and as for the tyres they would have come away from the rims just like that because they are commercial vehicle wheels, so for me they look very authentic.
Awesome! Thanks so much for sharing your skills. Also it is good to see you back at these types of videos. I still reference your half track build from a few years ago.
Apologies for the audio on this one guys, it gradually gets quieter through the video. Not sure what went wrong. I hope it doesn't detract from the viewing too much
Absolutely awesome thanks for your time and helpful tips, learned alot can wait to try . Funny about the tires maybe glue rims in first might have taken longer as not to warp the rims just a thought again brilliant build will watch a couple times more cheers.
Jan. 14, 2019---Outstanding job....just add some bushes, grass and maybe a tree trying to grow from underneath it and it's ready for a zombie/apocalypse diorama.
Lovely video and a great job: Well done. May I ask, what was the reason for using acrylics for your streaking as enamels, despite their smell, always seem that little bit more forgiving.
thedr00 truthfully I just wanted so see if i could do it. Lots of guys only use acrylic and I wondered if I could do it. Also it is actually kind of enjoyable and less risk of eating into the paint below so i ended up really liking it
That all makes sense. I like acrylics for my base colours and some highlights, I just struggle to have the patience for all the multiple thin layers when it comes to weathering. No denying the result though. Thanks for sharing, and your response.
VooDoo Nights no not this time, being all acrylic there wasn't any need. The one thing I did which I missed from the vid was a mist of matt varnish on the rust layer to knock off any areas where it went a bit glossy. Thanks for watching
Magnifique travail mon ami Je suis abonné 👍 Wonderful !!!! Magnificent work my friend I enjoy watching your video this is a pleasure for the eyes I am subscribed!!!!! And I would be proud to have you as subscriber too 👍👍
Wonderful work mate. Great effects using acrylics. I will definately try it! Thank you. On the tires, i think that your result is actually more accurate given the scenario. Really old and neglected tires on trucks tend not to be flush to the rim as the rubber gets dry and crack. This also because the airpressure is gone, which normally would keep them in place. Cheers and thanks for sharing! 👍
Really good looking effects. I think the tyres look natural, as without air pressure behind them they'd come away from the rim anyway. Good to see you back...
Nice paint job! I only dislike the tank looking not that realistic. And there is usually some moss growing everywhere dust collects like on the fuel tank or such places. It would have been a great chance to even add more romantic decay to your model. The moss even grows under the washer arms of my Honda Civic that I still drive and didn't wash for 5 years or so! :D
