For a long time, the archives of the KGB of the USSR on the topic of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant remained classified - which gave rise to many rumors and myths, some of which still exist today. In 2014, the KGB archives were declassified in Ukraine - and now we have the opportunity to study the Chernobyl accident more fully.
The KGB archives on the subject of Chernobyl tell us about three main aspects of the tragedy - firstly, the Chernobyl nuclear power plant was built with big mistakes and miscalculations. Secondly, the 1986 accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant was far from the first. And thirdly, in the USSR they did their best to hide the real consequences of the 1986 catastrophe and prevent the spread of information.
