TAHLEQUAH - As spring is in full bloom, Cherokees go out to gather wild edibles as they have always done. One edible that is not well known but still gathered is cut leaf coneflower.
To most Cherokees, cut leaf coneflower is known as kochan, kochun or sochan in the Cherokee language.

I'm giving a talk about Cherokee cuisine soon. This video is perfect for my purpose. It shows how foraging for food is a valued part of our culture. And it's great to have the porcess explained in Cherokee language.
