To do so would be another step away from imperialism. Every territory, every indigenous nation within the states, ought to have equitable representation.
Not really....no, but it would be a first step towards it. If they accept her it's very unlikely that they won't accept any other tribe even though they should.

I'm Native and we don't need double representation. We already have local representatives. You don't want the greedy and corrupt tribal government involved in the federal government.
What I would've liked more from this piece is pointing out and calling accountability to those who have either failed to bring this to vote, or those who have obstructed it. Making known those who stand in the way of progress is the greatest power news outlets have to give the people influence over their own representatives. We know what needs to happen, so why, specifically, has it not happened in the last three years?
The question is not why did it not happen in the last three years, but why has it never happened for the last two hundred years, they are the original, natives of this land.
@@isidralopezortiz4366 I think we can all figure out why it didn't happen 180 years ago, or 100 years ago, or even 50 years ago. But the people who could make it happen then are not the people who can make it happen now, and holding people from 100 years ago accountable will change nothing. Why is that? They are Americans now. They get the same rights and privileges every other citizen gets, no more no less. If they don’t like it, then their ancestors should have fought harder. Most of these people are more everything else than they are Cherokee. If a white man has 1/4 Native American in him but 75% Irish and Scottish, is he actually Cherokee? @@spencertwoeightyz3383 in America the government doesn't keep promises unless there is a major benefit for the government. For an example look at how native Americans get treated. The second part of your comment applies to both sides.
@@blakethegreatone2058 i slightly disagree about who needs to benefit. the benefit isnt needed for the government for promises to be kept, it is needed for the corporations that lobby the government. there are countless benefits for the government to increase representation of minorities. there just arent any benefits to the ultra elite, and that is who most politicians cater towards. a higher educated, healthier, higher paid population are all beneficial to our country as a whole. just look at how the government runs the military. free healthcare, free job training, free, free, free. if i were to put political labels on it, increasing those things without regard to how it makes the super elite feel would be labeled as socialism. yet, one side feels very strongly against socialist programs yet i dont even think they know why. it is just an easy narrative to repeat. yet they also are super strong about being pro-military, basically a communist run portion of the government. maybe my comment does apply to both sides, i just think one side is much more blatant about it. and perhaps that is because one party seems to be much more about helping the underdog and the underrepresented. PS. everyone tells me that i earned those benefits, that our military isnt communism. again, i disagree. i enjoyed the "free" benefits for half a year before i even started "earning" any of these benefits. it took 6 months before i was done with training and would actually be considered an asset, yet i still had free housing, free food, free dental, etc. it is all about averages. and in the military, they know a better trained, healthier, longer living soldier is a better investment than the capitalism alternative. i propose we make all citizens in america just as socialist as our military is. the government sees a return on their investment in the form of higher tax revenue.
@@spencertwoeightyz3383 the elites not benefiting is exactly why minority representation won't happen in an overt manner. Highly educated and a healthier population would be beneficial. I'm not so sure about the higher education or higher wages though. If greed wasn't an issue then maybe, but there is no logical way that you can raise wages and not have the prices rise astronomically. The things in the military aren't free. Though you weren't trained for months you were still an asset to the military. You could have been deployed immediately and just thrown into the fire. Unlikely to happen, but every single member of the military today basically signed a contract of their own free will to provide a service for the military and possibly give your life for basic necessities. The communist version of that is conscription. I'm very highly against the civilian world being ran like the military in many ways. I can only imagine the amount of fu**ery that would ensue. Civilians knowing their place instead of thinking they are all in charge would be a pleasant change though. Lol. Income taxation is mass racketeering and theft so I'm very very against the government getting more money to misspend.

What a nonsensical answer. How does catering to separatists strengthen this country? Reservations shouldn’t even exist. Neither should the nation of Cherokee. We’re just all Americans now. We should all be asking how can we treat each other more equally rather than asking what special things we should give to these people over here to make them less angry about things they never personally experienced that happened a 100+ years ago.
