I remember playing HK in early 2019 after seeing Merg play it. I was not the biggest fan of metroidvanias (I'm still not a big fan), but something about Hollow Knight is... different. I guess it's due to how the game handles exploration. Most metroidvanias, I feel like, utilize the concept of backtracking very poorly; sometimes, the only way to progress forward is to acquire that specific upgrade or go down the only path that you didn't explore. But that's not the case with HK. Sure, you're bound to find SOME dead ends, but after acquiring the claw, nearly every path you take is going to get you somewhere new and so exploring doesn't make you waste your time. For this reason alone, I think that Hollow Knight is the best metroidvania ever made (up to this point). It's not the best game ever made, though. TUNIC takes that spot.
I feel that we will not get skong by the end of this year, there has been no news this month, and it seems like the best thing for this game is that this is the sickest April fools of the decade
I bought the game in late 2020, didn’t like it at first, and quit for a while. But I heard some of my friends talking about it a few months later, and I progressed fully through the entire game and adored it, it also made me used to those type of vibes, which encouraged me to buy celeste.
