Dude! You just took me back. This was song I had playing while getting dressed for the club. Yup…I’m THAT old 😂🤣😂🤣 Love your channel. You have excellent taste in music.
This is a nice album produced by Ray Parker, Jr. This is post disco. The title song, In The Night, is a vibe. For disco from her, you gotta check out Star Love, All My Lovin', Saved My Day and Keep It Hot.
Cheryl can do no wrong vocally. She has the perfect voice to bridge the disco and post-disco eras. I agree about the superior instrumentation of the disco era. Also, people had to be able to SANG on disco (unlike the derivative-but-soulless house music). Most of the disco divas came from the black church training. Disco was concerned devil's music because it celebrates frivolous partying, fornication, and drugs. There was a large bonfire at a football game where people brought their disco albums to burn. Brings a new meaning to 🎶Burn, baby, burn! Disco inferno!🎶 🎶Encore (praising her man's sexual performance so she wants seconds) is a banger and the duet cover of Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell's hit ballad 🎶If This World Were Mine with Luther is beautiful. @0:28 Have you heard Mariah & Patti Labelle's live duet cover of Got To Be Real? Amazing! Great to see them interacting, too. The love between them is real (Patti is her godmother.)
Oooh, come wit it CoryDC45. Cheryl Lynn. Party vibes🕺🏾🕺🏾 Donna Summers, Evelyn Champagne King, Anita Ward, Gloria Gaynor, Whitney Houston's mom Cissy Houston, Thelma Houston... must I go on.
Yes it’s a shame how the genre of disco music was hated on I don’t understand why but maybe I do is more to than just the sound. It’s was the image but that’s another conversation but this is 1981they considered the post-disco era. Between 1979-1984. After disco More of slower dance sings, produce the best dance music that had help develop the origin of house music techno club. Disco was form from R&B for faster songs but they had to give it name. Cheryl also had good producers musicians along Cheryl born & raised LA Cali. She was discovered on the 70s gong show that was a talent show. I think Cheryl study classic music her vocal range is acrobatical phenomenal. Your just getting to her mainstream hits she has so many other songs that 🔥🔥🔥I can’t figure out why Cheryl is not mention in the same conversation as the other greats female vocalist but I love hearing sing great request 🔥❤🥰
greatest era of soul ,funk ,disco ,jazz funk 1977 to 1987 then it went completely down hill disco was only hated by a certain demographic lets be real i never bought into that bullshit
Incredible voice, like a 5-octave range. She was discovered on a 70's talent show on TV. He had about 5 or 6 hits here, including an amazing duet with Luther Vandross., then became very popular in Europe and Japan. This album was produced by Ray Parker Jr., who started the group Raydio, and then went solo. She is very underrated in this country. One reason is that in the US, the music industry is very image-conscious. Cheryl is a larger woman, and larger women are almost given unequal treatment to thin and stereotypically "pretty girls and women". (except Lizzo),in the music business, and that's why they tried to get away with keeping Martha Wash off the "Black Box" album cover. I always notice that albums by larger-built women always feature close-ups of their faces, because showing a larger body will actually affect sales. It's very sad.
If no one here has made it clear. The reason there was a hate on for disco was many ppl didn't know how to dance. So what happens when you go out to a club and all the fie ladies are dancing. And if you can't dance? you hate then. Simple as that
There was nothing wrong with disco. Like all music some of it was repetitive and basic. If you listen to some of Barry White's disco music and Chic's, it was just as complex as any music. People always have to hate something so it became cool for the non-disco crowd to hate on this music form but to some degree it birthed much of the music of the '80s.
