So, a theory regarding the ending: You turn into a troll after winning because of Rule 11, "If the black king dies, the crown is given to another member of the royal guard. The perpetual cycle continues." And the troll plays as his own king piece. But if you capture all his pieces, there's nothing else to invoke Rule 11 on. So he kings _you_. There is no win condition for white - either black wins, or white becomes black and wins. So how do you avoid this fate? You cheat. Notice how the troll's last words are to accuse you of cheating? That was his fatal mistake. Next time you play this game, try pressing space during the ending and see if it lets you go into accusation mode. Calling his Rule 1 violation and cheating back is probably how you get the good ending.
in theory it may give you that ending... but there's one thing you missed. Successfully spotting a troll cheat will allow you to cheat back as revenge... "You [may] cheat this turn" It's not really a direct statement... but could it be that to win is to not..?
@@tsunamininja So I bought the game after seeing that Icely didn't want to make a no cheat run, proceeded to play the entire 1st game without cheating, and was rewarded with the good ending. After you win, the troll calls you an idiot for not cheating despite him cheating all the time and the rulebooks allowing you to cheat if you call *their* cheats, then asks you if you were trying to teach him a lesson, and finally tries to convince himself that you cannot change him, repeating it 4 or 5 times. He then slips and falls (does the slippery tiles movement). You can then go up, and get now rewarded with the "You crossed the bridge." quote, followed by the number of attempts, the time, and a quote stating that you never cheated before the credits roll, and you get sent to the main menu.
@@bird9188 Basically, the phrase “chess battle advanced” is just just a running gag on Icely’s channel similar to the phrase “that’s just a theory, a game theory” from the game theorists channel.
100%ed this game just now. Great game. My complaint was exactly what Icely did -- troll does not understand page T2. He can accuse you of cheating even when the cheating piece does not exist, HOWEVER -- that's because this is a special case. Both the troll and the player are not allowed to cheat in a way that removes the cheating piece from play. If the cheating piece becomes a castle, the castle is now the cheating piece.
I see everyone is speculating how to get the good ending, my 10 cents is to keep your pawns alive, get the troll for cheating 8 times, or naturally ascend your pawns, there was a torn page about not letting all 8 of them ascend
I checked the achievements and (semi spoilers about Endings) Theres not just a "good" and "bad" ending: theres also an "Ascension" ending and a "Goose ending" (??!) I can only assume the ascension ending is based on pawns, but... goose?? I dont have a clue.
Since I dont see anyone mentioning it: around 6 minutes, black picked up your bishop and set it down in the same square. Technically it wasn't moved. Cheeky bastard.
You should have taken your own queen at the end, im guessing that would have checkmated him since his king was off the board and it was his last piece so all he could do was move your queen back and forth to stall. He mind-gamed you out of a checkmate victory
If you catch him cheating, you can just stack two of his pieces on each other, accuse him again for walking in anothers shoes, then keep doing that until 1 move captures every single piece
