The 600-900 rating range is absolutely polluted by cheaters. Just play the 10 minute Rapid tournament and you'll be blasted off the board by at least one of them.
@@aurelienherve6658 cheat detection is pretty good on both major sites. I'm no expert, but I would guess that there are more cheaters in that bracket simply because they're obvious enough to get caught before they can reach 1000
You'll find out that once you get to 1100 level all the cheaters start dying off and the quality of chess dips slightly. I bashed an 1130 today to pieces yet I have played 600s who bash me to pieces and have like 90+ accuracy.
the tournaments are complete trash for cheating, it's so frustrating cos I want to play random games against higher rated players, just not 3300+ rated engine readers
Simon, I think it’s great when grand masters play speed runs at this level and catch cheaters. It’s ridiculously difficult for us amateurs to try and navigate through these minefields of cheats
I have done a speedrun myself, ofcourse I am not a gm so I set my target to 1500. I have played a new account from 400 to 1500 and not encountered a single cheater this time. So I think it is better right now. On my main account however ( from new year to about July) I got my ratings refunded every 10th game or something like that. I remember how crazy that was. But right now I feel like it has become much better
If Simon plays sharp book lines, goes wrong and gives his opponent a natural attack that plays itself, many new players will follow through. Where were the unnatural "computer moves" that could only be understood by deep analysis of many variations?
@@RobBCactive What you say it's just not true. You really think a 800 can play a perfect game and beat a gm in a 5 min game? 99.5 accuracy against a gm is impossible for an 800 ELO player, even for a 2300, come on. Not even a small mistake when there are millions of options. When an opponent plays sharp book lines, goes wrong and gives his opponent a "natural" attack, many new players would just hang a piece or miss the whole idea of the position; they don't play 20+ moves of engine theory, that's for sure.
Sorry this happens to you, champ. If it's any consolation you've proven that GM's are not only experts at the game but also generous and humble ambassadors to the sport.
Not true. There are GMs who have been caught cheating. There are cheaters in all walks of life. GingerGM is a good ambassador for chess though I agree with that.
@@SuperYtc1 - I watched a video about Mikhail Tal that showed that he did in effect cheat when he played Bobby Fischer. Apparently Fischer had a habit of writing down his next move before he made it, and since in those days, it was possible to call for a recess/break whenever you wanted one (the championship games went on for days sometimes), Tal would call for a break after noticing that Fischer's next move was going to be a killer. Obviously you couldn't call for a break after your opponent had moved - but Fischer's habit gave him an advantage.
Watching that last one, I was like there’s no way an 800 hasn’t hung a piece already. Maybe you can get audience members to play you at each rating. It would be super instructive and there may be more incentive not to cheat.
@@WillyToulouse I don’t want to call anybody out in a negative way, but I’ve seen chess brahs roll their eyes talking about how good a player is and how surprising it is that he just lost to a 1400. I think that’s a funny way to handle it too and have no problem with that. I think the intention is not to give these players attention and so not to inspire others to follow suit, but we all know what’s going on. I think some of the chess 24 streamers are guilty of getting annoyed then speaking in code in a not humorous way. That’s what gets on my nerves.
I had to laugh. Simon's face when his 4th opponent played theory in the opening is priceless ( 24:18 mark ). I bet I was thinking "oh... not again!". Thank you for the lessons and the entertainment.
Thanks very much for posting. The cheating was flagrant yet you were restrained and humble in the face of it. I hadn't realised the cheating was so widespread so I'm pleased to know. Thanks again
Your speedrun videos have clearly been some of your most successful, especially recently. I very much appreciate them and look forward to watching this series develop!
Clearly cheaters spoil the fun but this time I must say this video really made me laugh ! Thank you Simon for taking it with humour and for sharing the video anyway. It was very funny to watch the crushing of a GM by computers :-)
Just gotta love Simon! It says so mutch GOOD about him that even after a 700 playing 10 moves of theory he still is not explicitly suspecting the opponent of cheating. (No 700 knows ANY theory and plays it that fast.) Some would call it naive. I honestly think it's a sign of good character. You rock Simon!
Thx so much for the practical beginner content in a format of what I’ve come to call “chess out loud.” Hearing the real-time explanations and thinking process is very helpful. Cheaters are a part of online chess - no surprise. But good to see the factors you measure to figure if it’s just a good game or suspicious enough to report.
Love these videos, and don't let the cheaters get to you! They're abundant at the lower levels, sadly. I really wish you would do like 10 | 0 with analysis afterwards about the opening you chose and responses to moves etc. I know that might be giving away some stuff, but I always learn a lot from the Narodisky-like approach to teaching and with your knowledge... I mean there's a lot to learn from a great player like yourself. Also, longer time controls = less cheaters, in my experience.
@@camerondavis6607 Not if it is too long tho, i highly doubt a cheater would have the patience to play, say a 60|0 game just to look up engine lines for every move in 5 seconds and wait 5 minutes for the opponent to think
Dear Simon I love your speedrun videos. You give deep insights how a very strong player approaches the game. And you show the complexity of the game which means that there are always numerous factors to be considered. And for the cheaters please don't let them come to you and imbalance you. You're a very strong and humerous chess player which offers a lot of very helpful advice! Thousands of cheaters won't change this. And again, I thank you for your work, Simon!
Thnx for that speedrun and it's very annoying with those cheaters!! I hate cheaters, lowlife clowns pretending they can play excellent chess..I report also those cheaters on Lichess where I play on. Love your series Simon and keep up your great work and vids. Cheers!
2:35 "...the Italian variation of the Ruy Lopez". But since the Ruy Lopez is Bb5, this is not an accurate label, is it? This is the Italian Game, not the Ruy Lopez. (Specifically: Italian Game, Two Knights Defense, Max Lange Attack)
The frightening thing is there might be an advantage to learning this way. Sitting in the cockpit with the engine, you can get a front row seat learning live how an engine dismantles your opponent while adding in a little input of your own. This seems far superior than standard methods of theoretical study. No one talks about this because they are either doing it, or they are worried about giving some people justification in their actions.
Unfortunately the boom in chess brought about by Queen's Gambit and the likes of Hikaru means that all their acolytes are now getting online eager to emulate their heroes and then crying when they run into people who have actually read a few chess books, so they turn to Stockfish so they can laugh at their opponents and shout 'Game Ovah!!' after each perfect win.
I just came to see cheaters, but after your video you became my favourite chess youtuber. Thank you for your explanations, I really can learn much from you.
I wish they highlighted in game that the opponent is 99% accurate after so many moves and it's suspicious. Really annoying!!!!!! Thanks for your series very informative, don't let the cheaters win!
Online chess now consists of cheaters. Some of them are like this guys, just cheating all the way, others - just in tough positions “finding” couple of saving/winning moves. Seen it billion of times
The ones that open terribly, then get the cheats on after 15 moves and pull out the miracle after being 3 pawns and a Knight down. I hate online chess because of this.
@@richiejbhoy1888 that is harder to detect and harder to prove. As I guess their accuracy level isnt insane, but they pull out the win through cheating.
@@lukebignell7846 if I analyse it, I can see they find the absolute best moves 5 6 moves in a row in the middle game. I just report them immediately. It's so obvious when you're playing them.
This speedrun gives me some heart.... it's depressing playing against what seems like similar low level players like myself only to be outclassed from the off. So where does it go from here? Playing in private online rooms only where everyone is vetted?
Fantastic series and insight. Thank you. Is it worth having a completely random username for your speed runs? Saying GingerGM - Speedrun may induce some cheaters to cheat against you? The thinking being that they can 'beat' a GM doing a Speedrun.
Spare a thought for those who lost to cheaters before detection was easily provable. Gave up correspondence chess 25 years ago when my 2508 peak was obliterated by the first generation of computer cheaters. Decades of study and improvement countered by arseholes with a mediocre program running to many ply over a few days each move.
I was shocked to see myself at 100% for a recent game; however, the game was over after just half a dozen moves or so. My opponent hung a piece and rather than struggle on he resigned. We were still in book. So, under those circumstances, it's possible. Almost all of my games are peppered with some inaccuracies. Blunders in a good many of them.
The reason there is so much cheating online is because you don't know who your opponent is. You can't see their face as they make the moves, and they are protected by their anonymity. It makes me wonder how many of the people I meet in real life would cheat if they could do it so conveniently without consequences to their reputation.
22:59 I'm sure if you were playing a GM you would have thought it through more, you couldn't have known he was cheating, you hard on yourself as usual! :) (I'm assuming he was cheating, no 800 plays like that lol). Really interesting and fun as always, thanks :)
It always baffles me, people I guess want to play for the satisfaction of a victory even if they don't earn it. Cheating on computer games in general is just getting so old. The worst part is, in some of my games at a low level, I play against people who I could never prove cheat but feels like they use an engine some of the time. For me, I'm most likely paranoid but at the same time, people just don't like to lose and will stop at nothing.
Great vids and please keep up the speed runs. I’m not new to chess but I am new to studying it and really learning theory and these vids are quite helpful. I agree with the field, wether they were cheating or not, your patience and professionalism shows that it’s about the knowledge and education. Thanks again.
100% they're cheaters. I can't stand people like that. They ruin the game for everyone. Notice the timing of their moves, like a metronome. 3 to 5 seconds for every move. No long thinks, no quick moves. They're using an engine. Sorry you had to deal with these jerks, Simon! The content is still great!
GingerGM let me say first i like all your segments from speed runs to long play games and titled tuesday (though i think you should pay attention to when your time starts in games of titled tuesdays i see you playing with downed time at times haha) second i want to really thank you for all the content you provide. i like your style and your personality therefore happy to support in a little way i can i cant afford subscriptions but did buy your dragadorf book and your killer dutch and london system. they are fantastic. would love to see something on the hillbilly i think you call it, would so buy it. lastly i dont think the third game (first loss) was cheating you did have bad accuracy because you tried to get tricky. the 800 rating doesnt mean that they are, doesnt your rating say the same? totally think the last game was cheating. your a man to admire they way you take it on board and still use it to teach us. thank you thank you thank GingerGM p.s lets see you sing more and more Gchess analysis please
Hey Simon . super instructive chess video thanks. Hey look on the bright side of life. The lecture arrows are orange ginger color ! Yes the standard game report feature is such a great tool, When I see 0 inaccuracies it is a big red flag, unless its a short game won in under 20 moves say. Even if a very strong player was using an anonymous account I would expect some inaccuracies or at least 1. Although like you said there is always a chance opponents play all the top moves. Therefore next time or in the future it might be better to make an anonymous username too. Because I feel your username is like waving the proverbial in front of a angry bull. Its nice to see how calm you were. Strangely sometimes I play better with a little TILT. thanks mate.
We need harsher punishments for cheaters. Lifetime bans for cheaters - including GMs. IP/Computer ID bans across all sites for cheaters. Guillotine for cheaters.
What sad, little people... they get a thrill, not from winning/losing to experience getting better at something, but by seeing honest people lose. No inner character whatsoever.
The accuracy doesn't always mean that one person is cheating, for example I won some games with 98 accuracy (20-25 moves games) and of course I never cheat.. Ok I'm a 1800 blitz player and 2000 rapid player (not a 800 like in the video), maybe that's the big difference but I just want to repeat that 95+ accuracy DOESN'T ALWAYS means that the guy is cheating
