I have the double sided (hexes and Squares) Megamat. I use Faber Castle white board markers and Mr Sheen aerosol spray to clean them off, had it for 10 years and the surface hasn't been adversely affected, although there is some very slight discolouration across the whole thing from wet ink.
Thank you! I just bought the chessex megamat and everyone says to only use wet erase markers, and I was getting confused trying to find some. To actually have a demonstration was really great, definitely going to pick some those up.
I have the CHessex Mega-Mat with the hexes on the back. I placed my order for the Crayola Washables earlier this morning and they should show up before my next session. Thanks for the video.
Anytime. It was a popular question, so it was fun to answer in video form. I just recorded another video with the "cutouts" i use... doors, bookcases, etc. Should be up in next few days or so. Lemme know how the markers work... Have a great weekend!
Interesting fix. Thank you for sharing. Does it damage the grid lines at all? For permanent marker, I've used Testor's Paint thinner with some success. Cheers!
Where I play we don't have much space so I can't exactly switch around different parts of a battle mat. How long would I have to wait after cleaning with water before being able to draw on it again?
@@WallyDM Yep that's just what I was thinking I'd do with mine. When I saw people saying they had annual mat cleaning days I just said that sounds off to me lol. I'm sure it works for them, but I think your method works best for me cause I don't plan on taking it out doors or traveling with it, I'm just using mine for local play in my home.
I've gone out and made my own board using cardboard, a hand drawn grid, and a clear plastic sheet I acquired from a department store that was restoring their front sales signs. It's more or less a $3 frame that I dont have to worry about cracking, 100% dry erase no staining even if you leave it on for weeks.
I can see where that would work really well for combat. Myself, I am looking forward to getting a hex map for outdoor/wilderness encounters. :) Thank you for the comment!
UPDATE - I used acetone free mail varnish remover on my mat. The dry wipe marker had been stuck there for over a year as a blurry mess. IT WORKS. But @johnw5154 is right. Rub lightly, otherwise the lines do disappear. oops.
