Would it be fair to say the premium pieces are borderline too large for the board size? The standard ones look perfect, if it wasn’t for the lack of weight I wouldn’t even consider the larger ones

In my opinion all the premium pieces feel appropriately proportional except for the king and queen. The base of those two pieces almost consume an entire square- I do think they went a little too big with those.

@@cameronginochiochess "except for the king and queen".... Well maybe but given the historical and cultural norms of their power and importance it seems almost appropriate that they cover most of the square's real estate. Well ok, that's my story and I'm sticking to it, lol✌

Seems like USD to CAD conversion on the chessnut website is way off. Can anyone confirm?

Definitely seems that way, unless they've intentionally priced them higher in CAD. Not sure why that would be as shipping is calculated separately.

Cameron thanks for going the extra mile with this video. I definitely appreciated that extra time to soak in the size contrast and the level of definition the larger pieces bring out. I especially like the larger base of the premium pieces as it is more proportional to the overall size given the other areas of detail. No offence to others, so forgive my exaggeration when I say the regular pieces look more like sticks next to the premium pieces. I love the clean crisp lines this look for me is a very ascetically pleasing. I also like the darker colour of the premium pieces. Some of my hesitation in going for the premium pieces was the my affinity for the more traditional black and golden (white) colours. But after seeing this video The dark brown is growing on me. My other hesitation has to do with the extra cost. This concern for me is amplified as I live in Canada which means every $100 costs me an extra $37, then we have a 13% tax to add on. There maybe additional duty tariff added on for buying out of country but I’m hoping this item will be classed as computer related which would make it duty free. Sorry I just wanted to make the point that my decision isn’t one I’m taking lightly and therefore I appreciate this video. Great work and presentation.

If you are sold on the Pro board, and like the premium pieces better, swallow the cost difference when you buy it first. If you end buying the premium pieces as an upgrade, or you end into the custom pieces rabbit hole, it will cost a fortune.
