Chest pain & angina: what does it feel like and what causes it? 

I had a STEMI ((massive heart attack)) last March.. I had been hurting in my chest and arms a long time before this happened and had visited several doctors, emergency rooms only to get told everything looked ok but I knew something was wrong.. The night of my actual heart attack, my arms started to hurt and then my chest started hurting, I was waiting for it to leave like it usually did but this time it didn't.. I kept hurting, then I got really sick to my stomach and broke out in a cold sweat and I knew I was in trouble.. I called the ambulance and they rushed me to the hospital and when I got in the ER they ran me to the cath lab and done emergency stent implantation... My right coronary artery was 100 percent blocked and that one got a stent, I have another one that is 70 percent blocked and thar one is my circumflex artery... I still have angina at times when I walk uphill.. I carry my nitroglycerin tablets with me everywhere I go, but usually if I just stop for a couple of minutes, it goes right away and I can continue with my walk.. It is scary and very depressing, I cry a lot and get so angry sometimes that this has happened to me.. Sorry this is so long but thanks for listening.. Stay blessed...

Just to add. I have no pain after 30 minutes on a Peloton bike but I have discomfort after walking briskly. My cardiologist mentioned that, during the Covid-19 pandemic, my lack of walking around in day to day life, maybe be masking the true picture of Angina! He said that my use of the bike and believing I am okay, is a bit of a red herring. Leaves me a little bit in limbo really.

I get get random chest pains but it happens more when i'm turning over in bed. I've recently started waking up in a gasp for air too... Like i wake up and suddenly realize i wasn't breathing. Such a scary experience

I was super nervous and freaking out about flying in the rain with thunder lol the next day I woke up with pain in the middle of the chest and later on it feels like a muscle in my right chest also connected to the armpit is always sore or something

How does the testing go with the "physical stress test". I just had one and the Dr. said I was good.. no issues. BUT, I am curious how "accurate" this is?

I mowed the lawn a bout two weeks ago .i sank to my knees it felt like a vice in the centre of my chest ,my left arm at the top felt numbish . I thought it was extreme wind trapped in my chest .Anyhow today i was moving something heavy and had the same attack again .Back on my knees hot clammy left arm vice grip in chest ,scary it was .My mother had angina .

I get exertion angina I'm sure I do. I get literal dull pains in my left chest as well. Panics me at times

I’d just like to point out that after many trips to hospital for what i thought was a heart attack, the one time when i was positive it wasn’t a heart attack was the time it actually was a heart attack. Buy an Apple watch learn the EKG function…it saved my life.

I get a sudden squeezing/painful sensation on the left side of my chest and sort of pulsates in my left arm ONLY when I am about to fall asleep. My latest EKG tho showed nothing and they chalked up my pain to acid. I have to take a Xanax to fall asleep. Would Angina always show on an EKG?

I'm getting angina symptoms. I'm a lorry driver I could be driving and I start getting a tight chest round the heart area. And my left shoulder hurts and left arm. And like a weird warm sensation up the left of my neck like a warm water feeling going up my neck on the left side. I panic and feel like I'm going to pass out. Sweat badly and after a few minutes it dies down again. I'm going to go to the hospital tomorrow I've had this now for over a month and it's exhausting. It's effecting my sleep to. The other day it stayed for a while and I went white as a ghost thought I was going to die. Need to get it checked ASAP . Thanks

I get waves of ripping pains from time to time I'm 31 i normally suffer from panic attacks

I got the chest pain as soon as I woke up in the morning. Could that be heart related as it happened with movement ?I had the pain about 15-20 mins. I don't think it's panick attack as I've had panick attack before and it's not this painful.

Whenever I stretch I start to feel pressure in my chest should I be worried?

My pain started again, i don’t know how to explain it. I have heartburn mostly but it ain’t that this time as I don’t have anything sickly in my throat or chest It’s something different its like itchy pain then it goes and comes again. It started around 10pm and I went to toilet around 10:30pm my chest was beating so fast I came back to the living room to lay down on my couch the pain went again for couple mins or so than it came back again then left but it keeps coming and coming back again. I’m 20 years old I had this problem before I went to hospital and they gave me that yellow stuff for heartburn but it ain’t that this time. It is now 12:40am (9 September 2022) and I don’t know what to do.

Ok, well I don't think I have congestive heart disease. Had a normal ECHO, normal cholesterol, normal weight, no bad habits. I was told my heart beats 20% faster than is normal and will likely need pills to slow it down. But I feel short mild bursts of pain in my chest that concern me that don't center around heartburn areas. Could be nothing, but is angina always a serious concern? I am 38 and have done a 24 hour holster monitor. No invasive tests, but no pains that stop me in my tracks.

Angina, what does it feel like? Squeezing cramp, the worst. It's like a giant hand just grabs your chest, reaches in and says.. Good Luck bro. There is absolutely nothing you can do to relieve it. I don't feel pain while exercising but some times the pain strikes in my left side of chest and when it strikes it increases with deep breath some times it lasts 1-5 minutes and sometimes it comes like a shock for seconds I've done echo and the result is ok. But my pressure is high arround 150 and resting heart rate of 90-100 doctor gave me metoprolol succinate extended 25mg this has helped me by lowering my heart rate am worried about what's causing high BP and high bpm

I'm having chest pain for about 16 years.

I am fairly worried, so I am a very inactive person don't do any exercise, I am 18. However recently I decided to start doing exercise, and I went on the running machine for 20 minutes, and when I finished, about 2 hours later I noticed the left side of my chest was hurting, but I just assumed it was from the workout, and thought by the morning it will be gone, but I woke up and now my chest feels quite tight and it is harder to breathe, or this is just the chest discomfort I do not know. Could it maybe be covid? I have ordered some covid tests just incase.

What about patients with "unstable angina"? For months I suffered with horrific chest pains that came on at random times, not upon exertion. I could be reading a book or watching TV and start having chest pains. After numerous visits to the Emergency Room and being told it was not my heart, I suffered a heart attack and ended up with three coronary artery stents. Physicians need to realize people don't always fit into "guidlines"'

Does anyone else ever feel like you have an elastic tightening over your heart. It's so tight it takes my breath away and I can't stand up anymore. Lasts about 3 minutes. Recently it's now several elastics tightening around it. What the heck does this mean? I can't find anything online and seriously doubt a GP will make an accurate diagnosis. I'm just ignoring it for now.

Hello good morning guys, I feel that left side squeezing sensation around my heart region or should I say vein movement around the heart that extends to my middle chest region. I feel the sensation in my throat region also but I breath fine and don't have symptoms of high BP but checked my bp in the hospital and it was high around 140-155 and sometimes it's around 127-135. Please can anyone help I tried explaining it to the doctor over here and they didn't understand.

I have had chest tightness/a squeezing burning feeling about 2 inches North West of my left nipple for 10 days now. It's a fairly constant discomfort, but more recently I now and again I get a short sharp pain, sometimes when breathing deeply, but sometimes not to do with breathing deeply. I keep feeling short sharp or tingly feelings in legs, neck, arms, and I thought my left arm felt mildly numb for about 30minutes the other day. Any ideas what could be causing all this? I am at rest 95% of the time and exercise doesn't cause heightened pain. No history of cardio diseases. Never had by cholesterol checked though. No shortness of breath/difficulty breathing.

I’m curious if i have angina. I’m 31 years old and I’m having shortness of breath and my neck and jaw feel swollen all the time. I have this tightness right under my sternum and it’s been going on for like a month. I get non stop panic attacks and I can just feel that something is not normal. Been to two different doctors and to the ER. I was told it was constipation, ulcer, or anxiety. Iv had xrays and everything looks normal. Iv been taking medicine for constipation and the ulcers and still no difference. Iv also been taking subutex since February and I’m almost a year clean from opiates. For some reason every breath I take I feel the need to clear my throat or swallow. Can you help me figure out what is going on? Thanks

I had a sharp chest pain in left and right side, and shortness of breath with wheezing. I got checked with cardiologist, got an ecg it was abnormal. Then did the other tests Echo, treadmill test and holter monitor test. All were normal. But still I have this more than 6months. What could this be and should I be worried about this ? Hello! Just want to know if this would be something I should be concerned with. There are times where I have chest pain, I believe it is on the middle part of my chest even though I don't do any physical exertion. It's so sudden. I think I might have this. I was at work the other day and my left chest felt like it cramped and then went tingly. I also felt the tingles in my left arm, hand and leg but it was minor. It was also extremely cold that day so not sure if the tingles were caused by that. Didn't get any other symptoms apart from that but I'm paranoid now. Will go to the hospital if I get it again.

I am a Female 32 about to be 33 in October. I have been having off & on Really bad pains in the middle of my chest! I have to start breathing slow & try to take long breaths.
