It's a riot - knowing how much work goes into posting a video - to get the title of the song wrong is particularly kind of funny. Humans make mistakes. So it's very VERY human! lol
There's no denying Mark is amazing, and he is one of my favorites but watching this its like a teacher and a student. The way Chet looks over, its like "well done son. "
They’re both gifts from either God or Chance. No one plays like Chet. No one. But that’s not even his ticket to the position of respect he has achieved. That ticket is that he was the first to conceive of pop music in the symphonic way he plays. Bass rhythm, melody and harmony. All at once. And the bass lines are not just stationery alternating 1 and 5. They walk. Merle Travis and Mose Raeger and Ike Everly nibbled at it. If I were on a desert island and could have just one artist to listen to, I think I’d ask for Chet. There is something so soothing about his arrangements and playing. The sound just comes out of the guitar as if it had not been plucked. No one else can do that. Even Mark who is an incredibly clean player does not produce sounds like that. I will never stop being amazed by Chet Atkins. Even though I love listening to a lot of great players. And, by all accounts, he was a wonderful man.
I have often wondered how Chet reacted when he first heard Mark's playing. I'm sure that Mark already knew about Chet and just jumped at a chance to play guitar with another true master of the "Jazz". ;-)
Ces deux formaient une paire formidable vraiment en harmonie. La disparition de Chet a été une grosse perte pour le monde de la guitare ... heureusement qu'il nous reste tous ces disques et toutes ces vidéos pour laisser son souvenir bien vivant ...
gotta love the talent these two have. this is great, I want to know how they prepared for this. Did they go to the music store and look for a book on guitar duets? or did they just show up, sit down and Mark started that tiny intro, and Chet had to guess what the song was. I can just see them flipping through the sheet music in the bargain bin saying, "Hey Mark have you ever heard of this Imagine song?"
Not sure why this is labeled I Still Can’t Say Goodbye. That one’s Imagine. It’s absolutely beautiful, but it’s not the song on the title of the video. That one is beautiful too and why I went to this video.
Mark Knopfler is an amazing performer in his own right, and the two of them together is almost beyond bearing. I do wish people who post this stuff would stop and think about what they're seeing...
