Ref Harry Lee below. Every time I listen to this 2 mins and 35 secs of musical bliss I drool uncontrollably. This is truly evocative and a wonderful example of guitar tone and dynamics in action. Fantastic! I want this played at my funeral and I'm certain it will be a favourite in heaven. Chester Burton you had such class and we miss you! RIP
Yes this seems to be an absolute masterclass LIVE! I think it's better than some of his other recordings of the piece. The guitar is shimmering (weeping) like a zither. It's spell-binding and awfully clever. That independence between fingers and thumb is denied to most of us. The extra little fills and nuances entrance one. I miss him too, so I do. RIP CACG
This was Chet's first time on "Evening At Pops". It was taped June 12, 1970 and aired Aug. 16, 1970. Chet's second show with the Boston Pops was indeed in 1972. It aired on Aug. 8, 1972. The second show is the one I saw and I haven't seen it since. I hope someday someone with post that one. But this video is great and a pleasure to watch. Thanks for posting it!
If I remember correctly, the 1972 show contains songs like Blue Angel , Black Mountain Rag, and Snowbird. I recorded the audio from the TV onto my trusty Panasonic reel-to-reel.
aw, I could do that.....haha, just kidding...I've been playing guitar for 50 years, and I still am perpetually in awe of what chet can do with the guitar....he is truly blessed by God to play like he does..like he did. there will never be another to compare.
This was the same concert where he played Blue Angel ,Black Mountain Rag, Snowbird, Missionera, to name a few and just burnt the strings on the guitar with perfect playing.
The published a list of the top 100 guitar players, Chet Atkins was not even on iit led paul was 54th, you have to be kidding me. Both contributed so much to the recording and development of both rock and roll and country music, if not for led they would still be playing acoustic.....oh well.
i play the guitar for 20 years now. i'm a shredder and you know why? the reason is quite simple , i'm not able to play like chet. even if i had 20 fingers on my left hand i would still suck compare to mister guitar , he is my all-time hero together with james burton
Lara’s Theme, Somewhere My Love and Theme to Dr. Zhivago are all the piece. CA even jokes about it somewhere on RU-vid that he can play three tunes at the same time.
Every time I listen to this beautiful rendering of Somewhere My Love on the guitar, I wonder where I can get the music note of this arrangement. Can anybody tell me, please.
