Love Stanley Jorden's face of utter joy as Chet starts to play ... and then Chet's face of amused admiration as Stanley starts to play with his own style. Two great masters really enjoying themselves :)
Gotta love the obvious respect Stanley has for Chet, as well as the obvious interest Chet has in what Stanley's doing and how. I'm sure it's a sign of how Atkins ALWAYS kept evolving as a player.
This is just fantastic.!! Two if the finest guitarists on this planet.!! You will never see this again.. so savour while you can!! (I must go pracitse....or chop it up for fire-wood.....hahah) Mickey's Place Cebu Philippines.
This is one of the most beautiful musics i've heard in my life. i can replay this non-stop. Stanley jordan nails one of the greatest riffs i've heard at 2:25. these guys got it together. Atkins all day err day.\
I love this video, Stan the man and Chet . Chet is totally checking out what Stanley is doing. Chet does rip at the very end though... The final riff of the song Chet smokes. I notice the older players like Chet and les Paul, use a lot of DJango type single note runs- very little bending. Stan is from another planet only he knows what he does. When I saw Stan I think he had two guitars around his neck- and one horizontal on a stand ..crazy. This is precious footage.
Chet and Stanley are amazing here! I wish I could have seen Chet in concert. What an amazing and innovative guitarist he was. I had the pleasure of being able to see Stanley Jordan play at a music store in San Francisco in the mid 80s where he demonstrated some Casio MIDI equipment and played some tunes. It was amazing to see him play so close up. That was the first time I had ever seen someone play the guitar like a piano. I want to see Stanley play again!
yeah, Stanleys been playing like that for about 25 years, I remember seeing him on the tonight show many years ago, hes just unbelievable, think he played a song called "fun dance" on that. My bro went and seen him about 15 years ago, and there was no band, it was just Jordan solo, he loved it.
I am showing my Dad this video he'll love it! I'm spreading the word about Mr. Jordan as well he's fantastic. Chet wouldn't have been up on stage with him if he wasn't good.
Chet is in charge in this piece, but that is not to denigrate Mr.Jordan. He shines in his solo work, which is interesting and creative. Agreed, the bass guitarist in this piece deserves more credit.
I don't think Sweet Georgia Brown is Jordan's turf...Should Jordan to his stuff it would make Chet nervous as well. Chet also was seriously older and more experienced in his routines while Jordan was in the proces of getting better in what he already was good at. Music is not a competition.
the first time i saw stanley jordan i never knew he existed either. i was fipping thru the channels on my tv and just happened to land on austin city limits and he was playing a show on there. i saw him do led zep's stairway to heaven and i was blown away completely. he did the most amazing version of that song i have ever witnessed in my life. that performance is probably here on u tube and i'm gonna find it and watch it a few times over. it's simply incredible.
very enjoyable music from two masters; they obviously were having fun and liked the playing, for me that sets music"above and beyond", when the artists aren't afraid to let us know that they are enjoying it,too!, thanks for upping this piece: we miss you chet!
Man !!!THAT is THE MUSIC !!!!!! I know , every generation has own ,but CAN a NORMAL person ,shave , dans , take a drink , or JUST relax sitin ont he porch listening to the ,,rap ", ,,hip srip " or other ,,crap" ? NO ! Thank you Chet&Stan !!!!!
I think Stanley is playing a Rickenbacker.....cool arrangement....nicely done by all.....I like watching these kinds of videos.....where most of the band gets a chance to shine......great stuff here.....👍👍
Never seen a technique like Stanley's, Maybe he has perfected something new. He looks to me like someone scratching an itch but I cannot argue with the results. Just discovered Stanley and just became a fan, Love all that jazz and he makes it look soooo easy!
My dad was a big Chet Atkins fan, too...first album I remember my dad buying when I was a kid was from Chet; my dad was a pretty rhythym guitarist, and he thought Chet and Django Rheinhardt were the best...
Incredible combination of styles and techniques: one helps each other, where there`s need of some help - Jordan`s young drive forces Atkins not to be that cold as usually while Atkins old-school attitude chains Jordan`s complicated modern jazz harmony and licks. Great indeed.
To quote the late Peter Boyle..."HOLY CRAP !!!" Words fail me, and for me, that's not easy ! Sad as it is that I never saw Chet, I DID see Stanley in New York, and he blew me away ! For those who haven't, go see Stanley Jordan...for those who saw Chet Atkins, lucky b**t**ds !
Stanley J. Has a cameo in that movie "Blind Date" [1987], with Bruce Willis and Kim Bassinger. Bruce takes Kim, as part of his his date, to a studio where Stanley Jordan is playing and recording. Kinda cool forgotten movie scene..... I actually found the clip to my surprise, here it is ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cs1ViCLwQ-s.html
