Mailbag: I watched you talk about the Magic and Paolo on the All-Nba show, and was curious. Assuming the best* what do you think is the ceiling for both the Magic and Paolo this year? Love the show and the insight.
Spot on, for the warriors trade dilemma😂 Alot of us warrior fans are seeing everything through rose-tinted glasses. On top of that, if you like your team, you can sorta get attached to certain players. Like everytime im making a hypothetical trade involving Looney and Gp2 as salary fillers.. they go and play good basketball and ruin the trade for me lol.
Jason, you have guitars in your backdrop. Who's your favorite guitarist? Me; tosin abasi, tim Henson, Aaron Marshall, Jason Richardson. All fantastic listens
I 100% agree with Jason about the warriors because I do want to see this team ride it out if Wiggs becomes the true #2, but if he does not they will have to make a trade. Jason hit on it perfectly imo, (as a warriors fan lol).
Absolutely, if Wiggs gets back to even 70% of his form, and along with buddy and waters shooting well, not even lights out just well…then the team is actually in great shape with the way theyve been. Cause on top of all that, defensively it’s been on point. Just need a larger sample size. But if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
Warriors have more quality players than minutes right now. We should trade some talent and picks for versatile near all star wing or a floor spacing 7 footer with good intangibles Some calls I’d make: Brook Lopez, Kevin Durant, Kyle Kuzma, lonzo Ball, jimmu Butler etc
I still have not clue why Victor is handling the ball on the perimeter, he should do it only on close outs, and i feel that in the long run, that should be the strategy. He should perfect tho hooks and anything close to the rim because thats his advantage
Warriors fan here, and 100% agree with Jason's take on the Dubs. Having a lot of good players is different than having two great ones in the person of Steph and somebody else not on the roster right now.
@jaylonsadler5641 They ONLY had those 3 players and sacrificed the rest of their depth to get them. When you're making an argument by analogy, you want to make sure that the analogy is a close analogy. 😉
before wemby was drafted, people were acting like he was like kevin durant or something along those lines when it came to ball handling. he is not. he is a genuinely TERRIBLE ball handler. i am not trying to rag on him but like that part of his game was so hyped up. it is nearly an instant turnover every time he tries to attack of the dribble. its so frustrating to watch man.
the Warriors need a rotation-caliber stretch 5 for JoKu to be more viable as a 3 and/or an established secondary volume shot-creator. Wendell Carter Jr, Kelly Olynyk and Jordan Clarkson are some examples that I feel could be available through a consolidation trade.
Always thought Wemby will never reach his potential because he doesn’t play like he’s the tallest guy on the court most nights by 6 inches instead he insists on playing like his idol KD
until wiggs learns how to consistently be a shot maker or shot creator threat, he won't be a 2nd option. it's the inconsistency with wiggs that makes him not a legitimate 2nd option but rather a good 3rd option. package JK with a another good role player for someone like siakam or markanen. that being said, there's not much players who fit that description made available by their teams. so the probability that the dubs ride this out is higher than them making a trade especially if they actually start beating legit contenders
Chet had a WS/48 as a rookie was only best by Wilt, Duncan, MJ, and Kareem, all of which were only than Chet and had more developed frames. I don't think people realize how good Chet can be. Wemby put up inefficient stats, he needs to figure out the efficiency thing or he'll never reach his potential.
Exactly 😂. I've been telling people that Wemby is not generational. Generational players dominate and impact winning quickly. Generational players are: Wilt, Kareem, Magic, Bird, Dream, MJ, Shaq, Duncan, Wade, Lebron, Luka, etc. Wemby is simply not on that level. He is a project.
@@jus3278 He is generational. Being generational don’t mean you’ll carry a team to the playoffs by yourself as a 2nd year player. If wemby was on the Thunder I think Vegas would favor them over the Celtics to win it all. At the end of the day no matter how good an individual is there’s a reason 5 people are on the court. The spurs would dominate NCAA. The Thunder have looked unstoppable so far. Chet is a big reason for that yes but don’t act like the teams are anywhere near as compatible.
Dude averaged almost 4 blocks per game last year and finished 2nd in DPOY as a rookie and averaged 21 ppg. Even Lebron averaged fewer ppg his rookie year. Just because he isn’t polished as an offensive player yet doesn’t mean he isn’t a generational talent.
I don't know. I hear excuses for wemby. He's supposed to be generational. Jordan all-time type of player. They usually catch it earlier and I usually more advanced than most players. In fact, 1B was predicted to be a top 20 this year
You think Jordan didn’t go through slumps and didn’t have to go through obstacles to be the GOAT we all know today. You think he just had an easy path to his success and he didnt go through losing so much to become a 6x champion? No one is making excuses for Wemby but you can’t just think he’s supposed to just stomp over the league so quick and not have games where he just doesn’t look good. It happens to the best player
I'm a Warriors fun but seriously who the hell thinks that the team as is can win a championship?? If they want to have a shot at winning it all with whatever Steph has left they obviously need to trade some of their depth for a better offensive talent.
Mailbag question: Hey Jason you mentioned that almost none of the Spurs young guys are popping. At what point does Pop get the blame for that? He’s a universally recognized top 5 coach of all time but it seems like players develop better away from him. Look at Murray and White as examples they both have developed significantly offensively away from Pop. Has the game just passed him by? Love the show and thanks for the content.
Popovich has a massive ego. He’s a charismatic guy but it definitely seems like he lives to screw with players and put them through the wringer. The whole break them down to build them up v for vendetta bullcrap.
@@jofieji5312 I’m not saying you’re wrong but I just think Pop is lost in the sauce with this new NBA. Steve Kerr is seen as one of the most player friendly coaches in the league and JK still almost was a locker room cancer. If that can almost happen in a locker room with Steph freaking Curry and Kerr in it how can a locker room with Pop and now CP3 in it not be more volatile you know.
@@johnhancock5274 yeah I’ve always been of the thought that Duncan made multiple careers. It just so happened that Duncan’s demeanor and ability to put up with popovich allowed many other players to just fall in line and respond well to popovich hard tactics.
@@johnhancock5274 ya what’s tough is my dad used to tell me. Man popovich was just the gm. But when he found out they were getting Duncan he fired the gm and took over head coaching because he knew championships were coming.
I'd rather warriors just stick with the squad they have, until they start losing. I think people are very much underrating how high of a ceiling we can have by just building on the team chemistry. Steph has already won 2 championships by just being surrounded by good players who can step up at any given game.
all this talk abt ant being the next great american born player but tatum is already one of those guys and id take chet, flaag, and dybantsa to be better than ant eventually
love your analysis usually, but you unintentionally exposed everything that is wrong with the analysis around Wemby, and sports in general: you're **projecting** a career for him and then commenting on that, instead of commenting on what he's actually doing. You said "I wouldn't be surprised if, by the end of the season, Victor starts more accurately represent what we expect from him" as if your projections are accurate, and reality is inaccurate. A d that's how people talk about him, not just you, everyone. Please just let the kid have his career and react to that, thank you.
Chett is currently a far, far superior player, and there's no evidence that Wemby will ever be as good as Chett is right now, let alone have a better career.
@@DavidLightbringer The first part of your first comment is sensible, but it's all downhill from there. The evidence is how he was playing by the end of the year vs how Chet (who is a truly excellent player) was playing and compared to how they started. Then there are the reads he's already capable of making at so young an age, that's rare. Last season too, until about the second half, it seemed that Chet would win rookie of the year as he was playing a fair amount better.
God forbid we have high expectations for a 7'5" freak athlete who can shoot and dribble. He's a once-in-a-lifetime prospect and has already showed flashes of being the best player in the league. I guarantee he has higher expectations of himself than we do.
So because he’s being tripled teamed pretty much EVERY possession when he’s clearly trying to make a play for himself and his teammates without having to try so hard to battle around but is forced by shorter/stronger defenders who absolutely disrupt his space to get into rhythm and drive to the basket without getting the shit knocked outta him by the whole team once he gets there, which forces him to shoot shots he normally makes but isn’t making them right now is now him being soft and overrated???
The problem with Wendy is that he doesn't play according his height. He plays like he is a SF 6'7", and not like 7'4" dude that can dominate the paint with his skills like no one. He needs to build a body like Giannis and own the paint.
He doesn’t need to bulk up immediately. Giannis had a normal shot in Europe and broke his shot so terribly that it prevented him from being an all time great.
It's technically Chet's third year. He missed his entire rookie year but he still got to practice with the team and get valuable experience behind the scenes.
