This is my favourite "least used stations" video. That almost surreal feeling when the train pulls away at 6:53 - and then they were all alone!

Absolutely lovely...the peace and tranquility once you step off the train at Chetnole and all you can really hear are the birds tweeting. Ah, bliss...

I have to confess I've gone down this wonderful rabbit hole of your channel Mr Marshall, and I thoroughly enjoy your honest and down to earth "reviews" of all these stations/locations. Great work on these videos I am addicted!

Love the pay phone thing!

Used to be the nearest station to my home when I lived in Melbury Osmond, a couple of miles away, just nearer than Yetminster. Passed over that bridge on a bus in the 90's more times than you'd want to know!

I'm from Yeovil and have literally never seen anyone so excited to get off at Chetnole. Brilliant.

Chetnole is super pretty, I’ve been there on holiday 3 times now and stayed at a lovely holiday home overlooking the station & every now and then you’d hear the train screeching to a stop as someone requested it haha

Funny and nice to see Dorset in a video. When the train pulled into Poole, I knew it was. When you got off at Dorchester South and walked to Dorchester West, I realised you had to cross the railway line at both stations to get to the least used stations in Dorset. At the sign showing which way you had to go to get between the 2 stations in Dorchester at the Fair Field car park, it's a good thing you didn't go on Wednesday as there would have been market stalls there. I know this as I'm a local.

I love that Anne is the announcer at mainline stations like Manchester Piccadilly and London Kings Cross, but she's also at tiny Chetnole. Every station should have Anne as the announcer. Up north on the TPE network, the automated announcer is usually this dreary sounding man and its depressing.

Since you were there, GWR have installed a quite large replica old sign at the northern end of the platform, which reads "Chetnole Halt!" (The other smaller signs, reading "Chetnole" are still there also).

Missed the least used station soundtrack

Went on this journey to yesterday on my home from uni and honestly got so excited when i realised chetnole was on the line

I love it! The first train you sent on had really narrow doors. Both of them out together make the size of your body. They are even narrower than the 2nd and 3rd one you were on!😇

Yesterday, I did this same trip between Dorchester South and Dorchester west and also the train stopped at Maiden Newton for around 15 minutes, services at Dorchester west only run every 2 hours.

Just something interesting to point out: the two GWR trains you were on were 150219 and 150263. A couple of days ago they were the two units working my train home plus 153318 which was locked and out of service.

Somebody should go to Chetnole tomorrow and see if the phone is still ringing.

Just as I was thinking this video reminds me of visiting my grandparents in Dorset, you mentioned Beauly where my other grandparents live.

The platform there and Thornford used to be the platforms at Cattistock before it closed in 1966

Me and the Turner boys, plus John Peach who lived at Church Cottage (where we played soccer with gravestones as goalposts) used to put the old big pennies and half-penny pieces on the track and wait for a train to pass and squish them flat. Oh the 70s were fun!

Learnt something new here then, that the 150's are called Sprinters. Totally my favourite trains these are, especially 150001 and 150002 which I am seeing all the time when I go to photograph trains going along the GWR :p

Next time I am in the UK I am so going to Chetnole just to bring the numbers up!

Brilliant video as always. The best 'onward travel information' board is, by far, Berney Arms. There is literally nothing on it, apart from the river, RSPB reserve, windmill and (closed) pub.

I remember stopping here when I was uni in Bournemouth, I always used to wonder what the point in this station was. It really is in the sticks

Geoff! The Weymouth Harbour Tramway is still an active railway on the public roads through Weymouth town and Harbour with the last train being in 1999! Weymouth Harbour Station is technically abandoned but still exists along with the platform.

Currently standing on the platform at Chetnole. Phone has gone & litter bin now entombed in plastic cover!! Hmm. Maybe someone has taken exception to Geoff's videos!! Station has had a nice repaint though - now all in white. AND its acquired a 2nd TOC! SWR now runs a single train in both directions on Summer Saturdays &. Bank Holidays. Did not run in 2020 though, due to Lockdown.

Even if I didn't like the content it is ALWAYS cool to watch couples that enjoy being together.

I love that they have plastered the old trains with "South Western Railways" but inside all the doors and seats still say "South West Trains".

Thank goodness they’re beginning to change livery. I honestly thought the SWT livery was the most ugly anywhere in the UK- new one is v classy

So the passengers have to open the doors? The conductors don't it? That's rather odd since here in the US, the conductors open the doors.

What happened to the pub? You could have walked to the pub, had a couple of pints of fine West Country bitter (or cider even). But no! What do you do? Call some bloke from Luxembourg😄 I'm still waiting for All the Pubs Near All the Stations.

I saw this station while out on route doing my delivery job and wondered if this was the least used station in Dorset and if Geoff had been there. Looks like I was right.

I use that line sometimes. I think the wait at Maiden Newton is for trains to crossover, it being briefly double track there.

This video is nice and all, but when are you going to visit the Isle of Wight? :) Nice to see the return of Least Used Stations. Can't wait for next year's updates once this year is done.

Should of checked out the Ordnance Survey Fundamental Benchmark up on the road by the layby on your walk. BTW Maiden Newton Station was the fictional station Marlbury in To The Manor Born.

Happened to travel along that line, and someone else genuinely requested it. So of course I briefly leaped out, got a photo, and leapt back in.

Good luck trying this phone thing at Coombe Junction Halt, the receiver is missing on that one.

Am wondering which is the least used most awkward (least frequent service), and the least used least awkward station (i.e. most frequent services) - and wondering if that might be Swale in Kent.

Whats with your camera at the start, the movement syncing is horrid (Horizontal lines whenever you move)
