All of the years they have been making transmissions and engines. You would think they would have it mastered. The consumer is being used as the ginnie pig
Service is where manufacturers make their money. They don't want them to last forever. If they would have left the design of the 4l60 torque converter alone, the 6l80 would have been much more durable
@@MrRupus2020and e best part is they come up with something new every 4 years as if they never heard the term if it ain’t broke don’t fix it and they never seem to learn
My dad's 2007 6l90e has about 92k on it now. I'm going to replace the converter with a reman that has the sonax billet base. Problem solved. His is still fine, I'm just going to do it preemptively. It's been well maintained.
But that's why you automatically install an aftermarket spin on transmission filter as soon as you get any automatic. Change the filter and half quart of fluid every oil change, cheap preventative maintenance, and never have to drop the pan. Have a Chrysler a904 in my 83 ramcharger with 307,000 miles Got a 4l60E pushing 500k and a 4l80e at 235k Can't comment on the 6l80e. Oh, and an external transmission cooler, and Trans temp gauge. It's just common sense
as he said, the fibre material gets carried throughout the transmission , damaging everything. Replacing just the TC will result in the transmission coming back to the shop in short order.
I have a 2016 suburban is shifting really funky hard and even slipping in between shifts especially 3rd to 4th….i put a new trans in 100k miles ago and have changed the fluid 3x in the 100k miles……what do you think is wrong
Hello I have a 2007 gmc sierra and it kicks into 2nd gear super hard. And also down shifts to 2nd gear really hard to. Everything else feels good just that second gear. Any recommendations?
So my filter clogged. I changed it and got the transmission working again. Whats my next step? Replaced the entire trans? 2018 Tahoe. I changed the filter at 80k. It clogged at 123k.
2018 RAMS are having exactly the same issue word for word. Time to stop buying Chinese junk and go back to making American made torque converters. I cannot afford for my truck to be down like this.
I have a 16 Silverado 1500 and on a cold start it’ll kick into drive and reverse until it warms up and after that both reverse and drive just go out. Instead of buying a whole new transmission, could you possibly clean out the filter or buy a new one and get your drive and reverse back just for a temporary fix?
I’m willing to bet you have a torque converter failure and it has maxed out line pressure. It stops moving because of debris. The transmission must be rebuilt or replaced
@@esoterictransmissions I went ahead and dropped the tranny pan and bought a new filter and tranny fluid. It’s actually driving now, but I imagine it’s only temporary until the filter is clogged again. Drove it around town just fine
So what is the recommendation for the fix or upgrade if you don’t mind me asking ? I’m having issues with shudder in my 6l80 trans . They told me to do a flush and it got worse and I’m only at 74k miles
No, the REAL issue here is shoddy design. KNOWN SHODDY DESIGN. Stop buying new, seek older, pre 2000s if possible. Maybe if we stop handing our money over, they may catch a clue....
If you want to sound more experienced you would explain what exactly causes the torque converter to fail which in some cases under 60K miles on the vehicle..
