I love this little truck, I always keep it in my fleet, it’s a great little refuel/supplies rig. Also the 90s model Chevy trucks are just so iconic, once you lift it and put bigger tires it becomes one of the best looking scouts in the game

It took me forever to realize we can sell everything at cost on normal mode. So I waited all the way to level7 to replace highway with mud tires, and I bot it for the first time for the chevy. Needless to say, it felt like a monster, able to pass through areas previously classified as unpassable. And on hardcore mode, it was refreshing to drive it again. Even on the stock engine, it was very fast on asphalt and some dirt, and much more stable than the scout800. As mentioned, biggest downside really is that its outclassed later on. But that is also true for a lot of scouts in the game.

Since this is one of (or maybe the only) Snowrunner vehicles I’ve driven IRL it will always hold a special place in my heart. But the other scouts outclass it pretty quickly.

Ah yes! The Chevy, I still have the original one with its’ fancy paint job and all the add ons. It did ok in the Don region, I had a lot fun using it. 🤘😬🤘

For the first vehicle, it isn’t too bad. I’m not a fan of scouts to be honest, but I think it helped us learn a lot

Great review! i just use the engine you find in island lake, not the most powerful engine, but it offers a great balance between fuel consumption, range and power.

Very late comment, but I notice that the top engine increases wheel spin in both Low and Low+, leaving you with a terrible cruise speed through mud

I recently restarted playing and I realised that the little Chevy can be pretty fun to drive even with it's issues. I will admit that I still punished myself with taking it straight to Russia and painfully recovering the F750 before doing the rest of Michigan where it serves as a decent support truck for the big Ford.

That sounds like a wild adventure to do all that. Mad respect!

It may be outclassed later on but if you throw on a snow runner gear box with the top engine, lift, and 38s, she can chew through mud

Usually more weight means more grip equalling better performance, but thanks to balancing reasons the weight of the fuel is so comically high the roof racks for most scouts are just too heavy in comparison to their base weight.
@NProvince
@NProvince 2 года назад
Ya know I have no clue why fuel on roof racks cause all types of issues or just in general. I never really understood that. I think the devs know about it… well I hope they do. This is something I hope gets fixed
@davi03d61

@@NProvince it’s because fuel is balanced for the trucks with availability and weight, as most highway, off-road and heavy duty trucks can only hold 150- 300 liters of fuel to make the maps feel bigger and fuel be a reasonable concern while playing. (Also the fuel usage is absolutely unrealistic high to help with this, but that has no impact on the weight part about it) Eventhough the gas tanks are much smaller than in reality, where a truck can have fuel tanks ranging from 500-1200 liters (at least here in Europe) the fuel has the weight of a real gas tanks size (so about 2-4 times it’s volume) Most scouts apart from the khan 39 marshal meanwhile have a realistic fuel tank size and reasonable amounts of fuel on the roof rack, as the canisters in real life hold 20 liters each, just like in the game. Due to the strange behavior of fuel weight they may hold 60 liters of fuel in the roof rack, but the fuel alone adds 100 kg of weight to the top of the vehicle. You can also notice this with fuel trailers: the scout fuel trailer holds 900l of gas, while a full blown semi trailer holds just over four times the amount with 3700 liters of fuel. (Which in reality would hold up to 40.000 liters) The balance in fuel an it’s weight is just messed up I guess.
@Bearthedancingman
@Bearthedancingman 2 года назад
@@davi03d61 I mostly understand the high fuel consumption and small fuel tanks to match the small game maps for game play. But the 4X weight really makes no sense. And the fuel consumption seems too high. Many vehicles can't cross a map and return home without being refueled. Also, why don't trucks have fuel tank upgrades? It would make sense to find a fuel tank with 50% more capacity as a very useful upgrade.
@Bearthedancingman
@Bearthedancingman 2 года назад
I feel like it would be more fun to have larger fuel tanks and NOT automatically refuel at the garage; requiring visits to the fuel station to refuel. I don't want to play hardcore, but I do feel like some game mechanics should have on/off options when you start a new game. Allowing the player to calibrate the difficulty to their preference.
@davi03d61
@davi03d61 2 года назад
@@Bearthedancingman it was like that in mudrunner, the garage only refueled 200 liters I think and fuel addons and trailers came empty. The weight part is necessary to keep the weight on the trucks realistic, but it breaks the scouts and roof racks with realistic fuel capacities

Some people may maul me for this, but my option to make Scouts viable is modding in moderation. What I mean by that is to not use anything that is insanely unrealistic or out of realm for the game, but rather something that might even be added in the future. Examples like the Toyota Tacoma TRD mod show that not all mods have to be complete game changers, just something to make the game a bit more fun and playable.

Another plus side, you get this truck multiple times for free. 3 or 4 times. Great for selling for extra cash. Only reason anybody really drives it is to re-live the original days of the game.

They need to buff the tires on scouts, I remember reading the stats are worse then truck tires. It makes no sense, scouts are already hindered by being lightweight and having less grip as well as smaller tire sizes in general, so why make the stats tires worse? Given the look of the scout mud tires, I think they should be around a 2.2. Not as good as the TMHS I mega tire that's a 2.4, but not as bad as the MHS I that's a 2.0. But for some reason the scouts mud tires are like a 1.6 (I think) It just doesn't make sense.
@NProvince
@NProvince 2 года назад
Ya I agree. They do need to buff scouts or make more places like are more scout trails like some of the places in Michigan where they are strictly scout missions and the trails aren’t hard. I wouldn’t get to caught up in maprunner tire ratings. Like I’ve said before, I have seen traction tests from the guy who helps me test and a lot of those ratings I just don’t trust. Anyways, yea I hope the scouts become relevant again. It’s part of the reason I haven’t reviewed many scouts. Scouting is such a small part of the game and most people don’t even use them because of what you explained as well. Good comment sir!
@justinlynch3
@justinlynch3 2 года назад
@@NProvince Thanks. With how bad scouts perform I can really believe the tire stats are lower. I use scouts for scouting, I just can't be one of those guys that rely on only the most powerful truck for every job. But it is slow going, even with the big ol ATV mud buggers, you still really need to utilise medium low to get anywhere rough. And I also believe the UOD II really are a 1.9, compared to any other offroad tire those things just rip. To be honest I still wonder if they are better then the OHD I. Stat wise OHD should be better and most people say they are better but I dunno personally. UOD II's just feel awesome to me. I gotta say there is a tire in the offroad class that really should be a mud tire, it looks a lot like a Tatarin tire. What's it called, OS II or something? I've been using those a lot lately to, I have those on my Tatra's and Azov's. Those feel like good tires to me to, I can't really see any difference between them and the MHS I official mud tire. So their stats can't be that much lower then a mud tire either. But yea I wasn't using MapRunner (I don't think), stats I'm thinking off I found them on a Google search, probably from a dataminer that looked into the games code or something if I had to guess. Still, they seemed to be accurate though, at least the few stats I looked at anyway.

I’m actually really glad you said you still use scouts for scouting. I really thought I was one of the few people I know. Glad to see you’re still sticking to it. Respect!

@@NProvince I would say main 3 has been the heavy scouts. So Tatarin, F-750 and Yar. I have been using the Jeep's more in online though while waiting for Season 6. The Cat Forklift makes for a slow, but really capable scout that's almost impossible to get stuck in snow or mud (good on fuel to), and believe it not but I've even been getting some use out of the Apache. Oh and as for the roof racks, I've heard it;s the fuel that weigh vehicles down. Seems to be some issue where the weight of fuel is just stupidly heavy. At least from what I've heard anyway.
