Great memories. I used to see these cars being built as a kid when I’d walk up to Sunrise Hwy in Baldwin. Boy what great cars came out of that place.

I bought my 68 Chevelle at baldwin chevrolet. God I miss that car and all the other muscle cars that were around. Connecting highway, cross bay and the clearview. Come Saturday night these cars were everware.

Baldwin motion in Long Island New York. Not even Yenko comes close. I had a 1970 454SS Baldwin Chevelle stage 3 and loved that car like no other. I had to sell it to pay for my wife's breast cancer treatments. I got over twice what I paid and my beautiful wife died anyway. She was terrified of the raw power it put to ground. I will forever miss them both.

When my cousin came back from Vietnam, he got a 69 that was just like this car except the white. Him and my dad rolled it on a gravely corner 300 yrds from the house.

That baby sounds insane. Pure muscle. I'll bet she squats, and the front wheels are barely touching the ground. And I have a 96 Ce and it's nowhere near as B.A.D. as this original. I'd have to call this beast "The Predator".

The rear end Motion emblem is in the wrong place. They were applied directly in the center of the rear panel underneath the CORVETTE lettering. And that L-88 sticker was not put there over the side gills. (that L-88 sticker wasn’t made until many years later and sold aftermarket. Motion never had those).

Beautiful car. Sounds great. Either the wiper door was left open or it needs a new check valve on the vacuum line.

Guys yes there was an SS 427 emblem put on Phase IV cars. There were very few Phase IV and this one isn’t. This most surely is a clone. The motor isn’t correct and the Motion badging is wrong. Also I don’t recall if that green was a 1969 color?

I thought Baldwin Vettes came with a custom front end? Like, with exposed/bubbled up headlights? I know there was different phases to them like 1 through 4 or something and maybe it was the stage 4 that came with the custom nose? Been years since I read the articles. Sweet car though. Wish mine was a big block.
@ejp75

Yes Sir. Phase IV had the shark front end clip with exposed headlights and the highest output motor

why would there EVER be any "SS" emblems on a Corvette?
@ineffable1129
@ineffable1129 3 года назад
Baldwin had very tacky taste, just like the hood tach when it has a huge 7k tach in the dash. Not a fan of any his changes to the Corvette, some of his Camaro's looked OK.

@@ineffable1129 I completely agree. That's why I've never been a fan of the Motion cars because they had too much going on for me. A bit too "tacky" for my taste but I understand their value and why they're so sought after.
@ejp75
@ejp75 Год назад
The SS 427 emblem actually was only put on Phase III motors. Those were the highest output motors. They had radio delete and no air conditioning, only a heater.

Guys, You gotta understand, this was the 1960’s - ‘70s. Things were different then. Car culture was a real thing, carried over from the ‘50’s and so much different than what you feel is cool today. After 1970, Performance cars died. There were no real muscle cars after 1970’s gas restrictions, the death of leaded gas.

Yeah well, Not here to knock it but question it. I only do because I restored my 69 L68 and bent over backwards to restore it the closest I could to the way it came off the assembly line in 69 and not cross that modification line. I admit it was very hard at times to resist the temptations of putting more modern and advanced parts on it, but in the end kept it original. I even removed the AC Delco Electronic Distributor that had been added and reconditioned the original Dist. (points, condenser) and re installed it, abling me to connect original Tach, also to put the original shield back on. So when I see resto vettes that have modifications as this, I wonder which way is better? I realize this is an L88, and not trying to compare value with mine, just compare whether you get more value in restoring original or modifying.

It’s clearly not a real BM car but even if it was it’s his and he can do with it what he wants. Right? FYI I’m an original purist like yourself. I only like cars that look like the day they rolled off the assembly line. In fact I’m such a purist that I’m not that in to even the dealer cars like BM or Yenko.
@ckstaff

@@oe542 I agree. To each his own. The owners decide and do what they want to their own cars.

@obbzerver
@obbzerver 4 года назад
Of course everyone should do what they want with their car but for something like ignition which is really easy to put back to stock configuration if there's a really pressing need to, unless you're entering it in shows where originality counts and you drive it regularly you're just cheating yourself of dependability, convenience, performance and mileage not running a modern ignition. The points ignition degrades every minute the car is running.

@cantonracer1 4 года назад
Nothing wrong with going to with that level of detail, but replacing certain things is what people do because they do not want to have the issues that many of the original parts were prone to come with. Keep the stock stuff in a box and use updated tech....and enjoy the car.

vhp454 I agree. If it's a real BM it's worth a fortune and should be correctly restored. If it's a clone, at least use correct parts or it disrespects the build. Beautiful car though, bet it gets better than 5 mpg on the highway too!
