Step 1 for anyone with code 84: take off hose and spray with carburetor spray. Don't be afraid to use whole can. Have someone step on the gas. Clean as best you can. Code 84 is often the result of sticking butterfly valve with all the additives in gasoline, especially in cold weather.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR TIME, FOR SHARING, AND YOUR KNOWLEDGE!! I have a 2014 Sonic LTZ, and I'm the only owner. My car has 64K miles. Right now I have the P2076 code and this is not def NOT the 1st code I've rec'd EVEN after being only owner and maintaining all thru the Chevrolet Service Dept. I'm NOOOOO LONGER a CHEVY FAN NNNOOOOTTT AAAATTTT AAAAALLLL - I want to go back HONDA!!!! I was HONDA for soooo many, many, many yrs UNTIL 2014 when I compared all the accessories and prices between Chevy and Honda.....well we see what I chose to get and I'm upset with myself!!! I've read where sooo many Sonic owners have issues - it's just ridiculous!!!! But sir - I really appreciate your time and knowledge!!
I know how frustrating this can be. I have all chevys and in the past I have also been wondering why all the codes because my son also maintained every little whim of the Sonic. I hate the computers in cars. They make fixing simple things a disaster. Ridiculous covers it.
Man I wish I watched this before I watched the others and followed what they did. I have every code you mentioned thinking I can do some old school cleaning of the TBI. Man was I wrong. Off to buy a new one 😢
First and foremost I want to say thank you so much for posting this I have a 2013 Chevy Cruz LS and I was having the exact same problem I did the exact same thing I took off the throttlebody and I try to get in the center part and when you do take the clips off and remove the top it lifts the gears out of positionto where it makes it malfunctioned like how you're describing it I had to buy a whole new throttlebody which now it works perfectly but I open the inside part where it has the actual sensor on the little yellowish plastic piece there are two clock looking dials that show the position of the gears that have the same dial logo on each one of the gears showing what position the gear has to be in to coincide with the sensor but you would have to destroy it like how you did to even see it so yes the only way to repair this is by buying a new throttle-body. thanks again the dealership was charging a lot for this and the auto stores were suggesting parts that never would've fix this issue
I had no problems cleaning it and open it with my fingers. But I first disconnected the electrical connection from it, of course with the key out of the ignition.
got a new intake for my 2011 malibu and decided to remove the throttlebody to clean. I did everything wrong exactly what you said not to do. I pushed back the butterfly valve to clean it and removed the clips for my curiosity. Put it back on and man I got a lot of codes. If you get p0223 it's toast...that ultimatley is the "you're screwed...new throttlebody" code. I so wish I would have seen this video first...a 180 mistake and thank god I can install it. From all the research I've done the throttle body/throttle position sensor is the Achilles heel for 2008-2012 Malibus,Sonics,Impalas,Cobalts, and Sparks...super common for Malibus apparently. 9 out of 10 times if you get the "Engine power reduced" on almost any Chevy (trucks too) its because of the throttlebody/throttle position sensor. Either its dirty or bad...so convenient for Chevy not to make a removable throttle position sensor for the Malibus...gotta get the whole throttlebody assembly ugh. I didn't even have issues until I pushed the butterfly valve back and removed the clips. I just wanted to confirm with the gentleman in the video...DO NOT PUSH THE BUTTERFLY VAVLE AND DO NOT REMOVE THE CLIPS FOR THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR!!!...curiosity killed the wallet
What you want to do before opening the throttle is unplug the throttle connector because you can get feedback to the pcm. Also you don't want to flick the throttle open and closed as the gears in the throttle control are plastic and can get damaged by releasing the throttle plate hard. And after cleaning recommend doing a idle speed relearn or disconnect the battery for about 10 mins. However the DTC 2076 refers to the intake manifold runner control that is on the back of the intake manifold (transmission side). There is a valve that controls a runner that goes the length of the manifold and is electrically controlled by the pcm, most times the arm breaks off the actuator and the IMR stays in a fixed position causing the DTC.
You prolly dont care but does anyone know a method to log back into an Instagram account?? I was dumb forgot my login password. I love any tricks you can give me.
@Angelo Mohammad I really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and im trying it out atm. Takes a while so I will reply here later with my results.
Saludos.
Thank you for this effort Who I've done I hope you some clarification .... I have a Chevrolet Sonic 2012 appeared I have Code 84 and I felt when you see the icon that Gearbox Is Code 84 has to do with lime Box or is not working correctly my question only to throttle I hope you my answer and I thank visits again
I had this happen few times lost power tracking light on before this replaced thermostat house then got antifreeze in modular which made oil pressure light come on like there is a video about that on here which I commented on also been driving with this unplugged blew out modular with air compressor to get antifreeze out of system oil pressure light been off haven't had no loss of power on throttle body code 84 so if you had thermostat replacement where antifreeze might set off oil pressure light I thinking it might cause my loss of power also going plus that 2 wire plug in a few more weeks
I changed pedal, nothing happened, then changed full throttle body, issue solved , then came back again after 2 months, any idea now where do I get code 89 and code 84 again with reduced power?
So unfortunately stepping on the gas pedal does not open the butterfly valve. careful as you can try not to pass crap from your air cleaner channel into that valve.
I have a 2016 sonic 1.8 LT sedan I just threw that code today I took my scan tool and cleared it ten mins later it came back again so I’ll try this and see what happens
I've got an 09 Malibu 2.4 and I did both things you said not to do and when I put it back together the stupid car idles around 3k rpm. Tried the relearning a million times disconnected the battery and shorted the leads...drove probably 20 miles... nothing works...I got the p0223 code... wish I would have seen this before 😫
