I tried about 2 layers of Teflon tape on my water pump bolts but I believe it may have a significantly reduced the friction on them. I was afraid to overtighten them and strip the threads in the engine block, even though I have an accurate torque wrench. It appears to me that only the lower right one goes into the coolant and needs sealant. Now I am going to try Permatex high temperature "Thread Sealant." I have a 2003 Astro with 4.3 L. I'm finding a torque spec of 45 N-m or 33 ft-lbs.
