Just bought a 2023 Bolt EV specifically with Adaptive Cruise control option to use openpilot. I'm in the same camp as a newbie but very techie too. so, I'm going to give it all a try!

17' premier bolt owner here with a comma 2.. Wild it works with an LT.. I didn't know that. I'll have to try sunnypilot. I want commas to behave a bit different on EV's.. like never power off.. I've ran mine for weeks without powering down.. since the 12v gets topped off at most every 6hrs by the hv battery. Also it'd be sweet to actually have a battery percentage for the damn hv battery. You'll like the pedal. works great. The build quality of the connector labels was shoddy.. but after its in its fine.

do you think it would be possible to mount the comma 3x to be flush with the housing of the cover? It would have to be a pretty precise location.

Lol I bricked mine trying to install an old version of opgm on 2023 lt2, even after reading the comma 3x lower than 0.9.4 reddit warning. I figured the software should be up to date hopefully. Days later troubleshooting different usb cables only to find the original cable had to be used. Oddly using usb 3.1 or 3.2 cable i had did not transfer the data. I've been using sunnypilot mostly but i switched back to openpilot and their lane centering is notably more accurate requiring less adjustments in the newest updates. So I hope sunnypilot's will improve with time.

I pretty sure I’m going to get a Comma 3 for my 2022 Bolt EV and I have ACC but I’ll have to wait for awhile til my finances are in better shape after the unexpected need to buy the Bolt after a accident wrecked my old Toyota Echo. Hopefully I can install it myself but I’ve put a few of my own Rostra cruise controls in my Echos before so…? You seem quite intelligent, I’m curious to what you do for a living? It looks like you work on vehicles?

I’m a mechanical engineer by degree. I worked for Nissan as an engineer for a while and do some consulting for multiple OEM companies now along with dyno. Working on vehicles is a hobby, most of it is just helping out people that are getting way overcharged by dealers. The physical install of the comma 3 is super easy in the bolt. The software is a little trickier. But once it’s set up you don’t have to mess with it too much. It’s been trouble free for me since making this video.

Cool! After I build a new 38Wx50Dx12H garage in the next two years as money allows I’ll work on cars and trucks more. I think I can use a two post in a 12 foot high garage.

Yes, but for the "official" openpilot software you'll need Adaptive Cruise Control (radar thingy in the front) which is included in Premier trim. Unofficial sunnypilot software can work without the radar.

@@vaddimka I have no idea what you just mention 😔 I have bolt euv LT redline which only came equipped with fallowing distant indicator. Bolt euv premier already comes equipped with adaptive cruise and super cruise. Can I install adaptive cruise for LT model???

@@vaddimka actually seen a video here in RU-vid about another vehicle which did similar to what you did. That thing can program 65 different vehicles so.. I will try.

I do not have adaptive cruise in my car. The steering function will work. And you still just control gas or cruise control. Some software out there is supposed to auto control the cruise to give you something similar to radar cruise but only using regen so it’s not as safe technically. You can also get a pedal commander which hijacks the signal to your gas pedal… but I’m personally not too crazy about that idea. I’m very happy with the way my car is. If you want the same as I have it should work just the same as mine. For you in the EUV

Out of curiosity have you tried frogpilot? I'm going to install a comma3x this weekend in my 23 EUV 1LT and plan to try frogpilot first based on other reviews I've seen
