This episode is replacing the rear brake shoes, cut the drums and install new hardware on the Ramp truck. This was shot before I sold it, but I thought it would be useful for people.

Ah nothing like working on a bigger truck and having to pull the axles to do the brakes. Good stuff. Brought back some fun memories. Good video!

Yea, first big truck with a floating rear I ever had, so it was a good learning experience.

I watched the video again and again looking for the placement of that steel ring that goes on the hub. The one with two steel pins molded into it. You really didn’t make much of it, but you removed and replaced that ring making me confident I wasn’t putting it in the wrong place. You rock. Thanks again

I'm going through the same issue with my 1975 Chevy c30 Silverado. Now to wait until next month and get the rest of the parts and complete the brake system.

Thanks Dan I've got everything down and the backing plates off and cleaning them to repair the grooves that are worn into the plates. I should have everything ready to put back on and together for a good drive after that.

Thanks A Million, Man. Very helpful video. One thing I experienced was the hub frozen to one of the rims. That Never seize is great between the rims and the hub.

I have been doing that for years, just don't put it on the studs, I was told that will mess up the torque.

@DansGarageNC

Hope this helps. Not a bad job really. Just make sure you tilt the rear so you don't lose fluid, and have enough room for the axle to come out. Let me know how it goes and if this video helped you.

Yeah, I was wondering if you could tell me how those self adjusters actually work how do you make them adjust the brakes. Thanks

Yeah I’m not doing all that, I don’t have the tools, the knowledge nor the lifts to be confident enough to do it, mine is converted to RV and so very heavy and I don’t think I’m buying a $300 jack and $210 stands to do one brake job, thanks for letting me know that I have to pay a professional to tho this

Is there a reason you couldn't just bleed the brake before you put the tires back on? It's hard to get at those rear bleeders.

good deal dan did you align the wheels so you can get to the inside valve stem
@DansGarageNC

No, the inside stem is still the short one facing the other way, I did have some footage filling it up before I put the outer wheel on, but it got cut.

Man those heavy truck drums suck. A BFH is also good for getting the drums off when the adjuster is rusted solid and the wheel hasn't turned in 20 years. 🤣
@DansGarageNC
@DansGarageNC 3 года назад
Yea, I was going to put a note at the start to show the later footage of how to loosen it if you can't get it off, but I never said it.

WHAT ABOUT OIL??
@DansGarageNC

It’s been a while since I posted this but I believe I jacked up one side of the truck high enough so I did not lose any oil. But it is always a good idea to check.
